SQU celebrates International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day 2025
Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), represented by the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, celebrated International Biomedical Laboratory Science Day 2025 at A'Sharqiyah University. The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Mahmoud bin Rashid Al-Saadi, Wali of Al Qabil. Organised annually by the Department of Biomedical Science, the event aims to highlight the vital contributions of professionals in the field, inspire those working in biomedical sciences, and promote awareness of the discipline. It also seeks to underscore the importance of the various branches of biomedical science and raise public awareness of the role biomedical scientists play in diagnosing diseases within clinical laboratories. Despite being a key profession in the healthcare system, the role of biomedical laboratory specialists is often not fully understood by patients and the wider community due to limited direct interaction. The event featured an exhibition comprising four main sections. The first showcased academic programmes in biomedical sciences offered by public and private universities and colleges, allowing institutions to promote their educational offerings. The second section focused on the main branches of biomedical laboratory sciences—Haematology, Histopathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology. Staff members from each branch engaged with visitors by demonstrating selected diagnostic tests and explaining their relevance. The third section hosted participating associations, including the Oman Cancer Association, the Oman Hereditary Blood Disorders Association, and the Oman Transplantation Society, offering insights into their work and community impact. The fourth section featured an interactive student corner, where scientific posters were displayed and various competitions were held for visitors. It is noteworthy that the College of Medicine and Health Sciences first marked this international occasion in 2017.
