Oman invites bids for major mountain resort
Oman has invited bids for a landmark mountain resort in Jabal Al-Akhdar, the country's highest summit, at a cost of around 1.2 billion Omani rials ($3 billion). The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has invited qualified international consultancy firms to bid for the master planning and detailed engineering design of the project, newspapers in the Gulf sultanate reported at the weekend. Known as the Al Jabal Al Aali project, or the Omani Mountain Destination, the development is envisioned as a mixed-use residential, hospitality, and wellness district spanning an 11.8 square kilometres site atop Al Jabal Al Akhdar in Al Dakhiliya Governorate. Part of a prestigious portfolio of sustainable cities promoted by the Ministry, Al Jabal Al Aali will feature more than 2,500 homes, 2,000 hotel rooms, a health and wellness hub, as well as biodiversity and sports facilities. In addition to the overall master plan, the selected consultant will be responsible for the comprehensive infrastructure design, including planning, architecture, engineering, and tender preparation and award for major infrastructure and building components. A key highlight of the development is the Western Wellness Village, an integrated health and ecotourism cluster featuring approximately 500 residential and hotel units backed by RO200 million ($520 million) in investments. Spanning 630,000 square metres (sqm), the village will underscore the project's appeal as a premier wellness destination. Al Jabal Al Aali is expected to host a population of around 10,000 residents. The project forms part of Oman's broader urban development vision, which aims to attract billions of Omani rials in investment over the next decade across a suite of integrated tourism and residential projects. Situated at an elevation of 2,400 metres above sea level, the destination promises cooler climes and breathtaking natural surroundings—rugged mountains, deep ravines, terraced farms, and endemic juniper trees. In addition to the overall master plan, the selected consultant will be responsible for the comprehensive infrastructure design, including planning, architecture, engineering, and tender preparation and award for major infrastructure and building components. A key highlight of the development is the Western Wellness Village, an integrated health and ecotourism cluster featuring approximately 500 residential and hotel units backed by RO 200 million in investments. Designed to harmonize with the natural terrain, the new district will include paved walkways, open squares, green spaces, and water features. Upon full buildout across multiple phases, Al Jabal Al Aali is expected to host a population of around 10,000 residents. Two new projects announced in Oman
Muscat: The Oman Real Estate Conference and Exhibition and Design & Build Week began under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Belarab bin Haitham bin Tarik at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center, during which two projects were announced - A'Thuraya City and the Al Jabal Al Aali Project. Al Thuraya City was launched in the Wilayat of Bawshar as a smart city, and the first phase includes more than 2,600 housing units distributed across eight integrated neighborhoods, accommodating more than 8,000 people. The city was designed according to quality of life standards and smart urban planning, adopting low-carbon environmental solutions. At an altitude of 2,400 meters above sea level, the Al Jabal Al Aali Project was launched as a unique global mountain destination. It spans an area of 11.8 square kilometers and includes three main villages accommodating more than 10,000 people. Oman real estate expo kicks off in Muscat
MUSCAT, May 19 (Xinhua) -- The 20th Oman Real Estate Conference and Exhibition opened here on Monday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center, with a series of major investment agreements signed. Organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning in cooperation with the Oman Real Estate Association, the event, running through Saturday, brought together over 40 local and international speakers and 180 exhibitors to explore the development of smart and sustainable cities. The opening day witnessed the signing of nine partnership and development agreements with a combined investment value exceeding 2.3 billion Omani rials (approximately 6 billion U.S. dollars), including two deals with Egypt's Talaat Moustafa Group, one of the region's top real estate developers. Under the first agreement, the group will develop parts of Sultan Haitham City on an area spanning 2.6 million square meters. This project aims to create a modern urban hub aligned with Oman Vision 2040, combining residential, commercial, and lifestyle components. The second agreement involves the transformation of coastal land in Al-Seeb province into a tourism destination. The project will cover more than 2.2 million square meters and include residential zones, a luxury hotel, artificial lakes, and a marina. Additionally, the conference introduced two flagship urban projects: A' Thuraya City in Bawshar province, envisioned as a smart and sustainable city, and the Al Jabal Al Aali project for tourism development in the Hajar Mountains. These initiatives are part of Oman's ongoing efforts to support economic diversification through boosting real estate and tourism development.
