Koraput admn initiates process to expand Jeypore airport

1 2 Koraput: In a major step toward enhancing regional air connectivity, the Koraput administration has initiated the land schedule exercise to facilitate the expansion of Jeypore airport from 2B to 3C category. The proposed upgrade will enable the airport to accommodate 72-seater aircrafts and support round-the-clock operations, unaffected by runway visual range limitations. According to sub-collector (Jeypore) A Sasya Reddy, the state commerce department has approved the airport's upgradation and over 200 acres of land will be acquired to meet the requirements. "Following instructions from the state govt, a detailed land schedule survey has been initiated to identify the coordinates and quantum of land needed for the expansion," she said. The land identified for acquisition includes areas in Banko Bija, Gagnapur and Ekamba villages. As part of the process, a social impact assessment survey will follow, along with gram sabha meetings, to record the opinions and grievances of the affected villagers. "If all procedures move forward smoothly, we are hopeful that larger aircrafts could begin operations at Jeypore airport within the next two years," Reddy added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Jeypore tehsildar Chittranjan Patnaik stated that while the exact land requirement is still under final assessment, approximately 250 to 280 acres, both private and govt land, may be acquired. The move comes after the Airports Authority of India (AAI) submitted a favourable feasibility survey report last August, supporting the airport's expansion. Under the proposed plan, the current 1,200-meter runway will be extended to 2,700 meters, with additional upgrades in safety and security infrastructure to meet higher operational standards. Jeypore airport, which began commercial operations on October 31, 2022 under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme, currently handles two nine-seater flights daily between Bhubaneswar and Jeypore and one daily flight connecting Jeypore to Visakhapatnam. "The expansion will significantly boost regional connectivity, enhance the tourism potential of the district while positioning Jeypore as a vital travel and economic hub in the state," Reddy added.

Week on, key recoveries done, debris to be shifted to AAI site

: Exactly one week after India's deadliest air crash in three decades, investigators have completed key recovery work at the Ahmedabad crash site and are now focusing on accessing the black boxes to determine what caused the Boeing Dreamliner to plunge into a medical hostel moments after take-off, killing 241 of 242 people aboard and several more on the ground. The aviation ministry said on Thursday that 'key recovery work, including site documentation and evidence collection, has been completed, and further analysis is now underway' at the site by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). 'The decision regarding the location for decoding the flight recorders will be taken by the AAIB after due assessment of all technical, safety, and security considerations,' the ministry stated, addressing speculation about whether the black boxes would be sent overseas for analysis. Both sets of flight recorders from the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner have been recovered - the first combined Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) unit was found on June 13, with the second set was located on June 16. The B787 aircraft model carries two black box sets – one under the cockpit and the other in the tail section -- as standard. According to a police official aware of the probe, the debris will soon be moved to a site near the Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Limited (GUJSAIL) office near the airport, on land owned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). 'Experts will attempt to reconstruct sections of the aircraft at that site to assist in the inquiry. All electronic components recovered from the wreckage will be handed over to the Forensic Science Laboratory for detailed examination,' the official said. Ahmedabad police commissioner GS Malik said 'reconstructed parts of the aircraft will be examined to determine what led to the crash. The black box will be analysed as part of this process'. The debris removal and transportation process typically involves careful cataloguing and preservation of aircraft components that could provide crucial evidence about the crash sequence. Investigators must maintain a strict chain of custody for all materials, with larger structural components often moved to specialised facilities where they can be reconstructed to understand the aircraft's final moments. Critical components like engines and control surfaces undergo detailed metallurgical and mechanical analysis to identify any failures or anomalies that may have contributed to the accident. The statement of the lone survivor, Vishwash Kumar, has also been recorded, according to Malik. Viswash recounted to HT that shortly after takeoff, he heard a loud sound and felt the aircraft lose balance, moments before the crash. According to an official of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), CISF personnel stationed near the emergency exit close to the Instrument Landing System (ILS) area on the runway heard a loud sound as the aircraft took off. The investigation involves multiple agencies, with teams from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Boeing assisting the AAIB under International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) protocols. A separate committee headed by the home secretary and involving civil aviation ministry officials was also announced to look into larger questions about regulations and safety standards in the aftermath of the crash. On Thursday, 215 victims have been identified through DNA matching, with 198 bodies handed over to their families so far, the Ahmedabad civil hospital said. The victims included 149 Indians, 32 British citizens, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian. The crash has had significant operational impact on Air India, which announced a 15% reduction in international widebody services. Enhanced surveillance checks ordered by the DGCA on Air India's Boeing 787 fleet found no issues in 26 out of 33 aircraft inspected. As an added precaution, Air India will also undertake enhanced safety checks on its Boeing 777 fleet. The airline said flights will therefore be reduced on 16 international routes and suspended on 3 overseas destinations between June 21 and July 15. Services will be suspended on Delhi-Nairobi, Amritsar-London (Gatwick) and Goa (Mopa)-London (Gatwick) till July 15. The curtailments include 16 international routes connecting cities in North America, Europe, Australia and the far East.

Indian-American professor slammed for blaming 'reservation' for Air India crash: 'Freeloaders are more important'

Indian-American professor Dr Rajeshwari Iyer triggered a social media storm, blaming 'reservation' behind the that killed at least 265 people, including those on board and also those on the ground. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sharing a recruitment notice of the Airports Authority of India for the post of Air Traffic Control, the Indian-origin professor argued that in India, safety is not as important as "freeloaders". "In India, freeloaders are more important than Safety. Including Indian Citizens we lose many British citizens too, 241 died in plane crash. What a pathetic system," she wrote. While many users supported her observation, many pointed out how Indian-origin people in America are jumping to conclusions about the crash. Indian-origin businessman, Hotmail co-founder, Sabeer Bhatia also made insensitive comments about people grieving for the Air India crash victims and also defended that comment. "The crash happened due to malfunctions in Boeing Dreamliner which is manufactured by USA company due to loss of thrust. There is no fault of crew. So chill a bit before farming," one wrote, reacting to Dr Iyer's reservation post. "Firstly, it's too early to conclude anything. Also, desperately wish where one day such brilliant migrants and naturalised citizens of other 'first world' nations ( whether through parents or self) like yourself, fix the flaws of this young Indian democracy and work towards ensuring that it comes out of years of colonial and outdated ideas and depredations," another wrote. Some X users dug up Brahmin named behind accidents in India and slammed her for connecting the crash with caste, and also to the ATC, as there has been no report on ATC's involvement know the crash. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In the aftermath of the incident, Air India reduced its international services on wide-body aircraft by 15 per cent for the next few weeks. The decision has been taken to add to the airlines' reserve aircraft availability to take care of any unplanned disruptions and this will continue until at least mid-July.

Bihar Cabinet gives nod to sign MoU with AAI to develop six small airports under UDAN scheme

The Bihar Cabinet on Tuesday approved the signing of an MoU between Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the State government for developing six small airports under the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme in the State. The airports that would be developed are Madhubani, Birpur (Supaul), Munger, Valmikinagar (West Champaran), Muzaffarpur and Saharsa. The decision would pave the way for building airports and related infrastructure necessary for the development of these six airports, Cabinet Secretariat Department's Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) S. Siddharth said. The Cabinet has sanctioned initial allotment of ₹25 crore each for the development of six airports. Earlier this month, the Cabinet also reduced the rate of Value Added Tax (VAT) rate from 29% to 4% on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), which would enable the aircrafts to refuel at Patna. The decision was taken to increase the numbers of flights and make the state competitive on par with neighbouring States. Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated Patna airport's new terminal built at the cost of ₹1,200 crore to boost tourism and handle one crore passengers annually. He had also laid the foundation for ₹1,410 crore civil enclave at Bihta Airport. . . The Cabinet also approved the extension of contract period for financial year 2025-26 for 1,717 Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) personnel. These SAP personnel are retired Indian Army personnel.
