Media plan for Khareef Dhofar Season highlighted
SALALAH: A coordination meeting held on Thursday at Dhofar Municipality in Salalah reviewed the implementation mechanisms of the media plan and preparations for covering Khareef Dhofar Season 2025 events. This comes as part of ongoing coordination between the Ministry of Information and relevant government entities to highlight the season and the governorate's tourism potential through local and international media platforms. The meeting was attended by Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information, Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, and several officials. Discussions focused on the approved media plan for the khareef season, which includes coverage through Oman TV and Radio, Oman News Agency (ONA), the "Ayn" platform, digital media and private media outlets. The meeting also addressed the support Dhofar Municipality will provide for various media efforts, along with a visual presentation showcasing the locations of events included in the Khareef Dhofar Season 2025 programme. - ONA

Muscat: Muscat Municipality officially launched the Muscat Municipality Design Competition 2025 with a site visit recently conducted by Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality. The visit marked the formal start of this landmark initiative, which is now underway and drawing global attention as leading architecture studios from around the world prepare to submit their visionary concepts. The selected site, strategically located adjacent to the Mall of Oman and spanning over 8,000 square metres, will serve as the future home of a multi-functional civic building that reflects Muscat's modern aspirations while honouring its rich architectural heritage. Set between the Sea of Oman and the Hajar Mountains, the site is a unique canvas that speaks to the evolving narrative of urban Oman. 'Muscat is expecting a growing number of tourists in the near future, and the city is doing everything to welcome them in a sustainable way and to the highest standards of quality and beauty,' said Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality. Tallest flagpole launched
The tallest flagpole with the national flag was dedicated to the nation on Thursday under the auspices of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat, at the Al Khuwair Square. The huge Omani national flag, measuring some 25 metres in length and 44 metres in width, more than what it was declared earlier, adorned the peak of the 126-metre-high flagpole. The event was attended by Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, along with other top officials. Dignitaries at the launch. The Al Khuwair Square project extends an area of more than 18,000 square metres and is the result of a successful public-private partnership, fostering collaboration between the Muscat Municipality and Jindal Shadeed Iron and Steel. Tallest flagpole to be unveiled on Thursday
The tallest flagpole in the country will be be unveiled on Thursday, May 22, at Al Khuwair Square under the auspices of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat. The national flag of the Sultanate of Oman will be raised on top of the tallest flagpole in the nation's history, a proud symbol soaring in the skies of Oman. The moment will be graced by Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, along with other top officials. Standing at a height of 126 metres into the sky, this flagpole is already known for its architectural brilliance, symbolising Oman's aspirations for progress and success in line with Vision 2040. The Al Khuwair Square project is the result of a successful public-private partnership, fostering collaboration between the Muscat Municipality and Jindal Shadeed Iron and Steel. 'In the future, this area will be developed into an 18,000-square-metre multipurpose project with a large space dedicated for business activities,' he said. The national flag will measure some 18 metres in length and 31.5 metres in width, adorning the top of the flagpole which has already grabbed international attention as 'Oman's tallest man-made structure'. The huge edifice is constructed using 135 tonnes of steel with an outer diameter of 2,800mm at its base and 900mm at the top. The flagpole is equipped with a warning light system for aircraft using this airspace and has already been credited as a pioneering model for synergising efforts and achieving multifaceted impacts. The Al Khuweir Square project will also have, according to the Muscat Municipality sources, a plaza, large lawn, walkways, a skate park, a cycle path and a cafeteria, along with a variety of entertainment and sports facilities, transforming it into a vibrant community hub.

Facilities at Ruwi Business District to be upgraded
Muscat Municipality has awarded the tender for the Ruwi Business District Development Project, as part of its strategy to develop commercial districts. The project will include enhancing green spaces, creating additional seating areas and parking spaces to ensure smooth traffic flow, pedestrian walkways, and the use of modern technology, among other facilities. The project is part of Muscat Municipality's efforts to enhance the city's urban landscape, enhance the quality of life, and provide an integrated urban environment centered on sustainability and people, serving all segments of society. The project, which spans an area of around 360,000 square meters, will be implemented over 16 months. The project includes landscaping and green spaces covering approximately 6,500 square meters, in addition to the creation of shaded areas and additional seating areas, and the provision of 2,458 new parking spaces, which will contribute to enhancing traffic flow. The project also includes the construction of pedestrian paths with an area of approximately 101,806 square meters, the use of smart infrastructure, and the establishment of service kiosks and modern restrooms, stimulating economic and commercial activity and enriching the urban experience for visitors and residents alike. Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, said, 'The Ruwi Commercial District Development Project is part of Muscat Governorate's strategy to develop commercial districts according to the highest approved standards. These development projects are in line with the Master Plan for Greater Muscat, which is one of the outcomes of the National Urban Development Strategy.' The Ruwi Business District Development Project is a pivotal step in Muscat Municipality's vision to transform commercial centers into vibrant, sustainable destinations that align with the development pillars of Muscat Governorate.
