Following meeting with Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, PM Salam tells LBCI Lebanon is advancing toward e-government with UAE support
Lebanon's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with Grand Imam of el-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb, during his visit to the United Arab Emirates. In a statement to LBCI, Salam said, 'We are working on providing the necessary facilities to ensure the return of our people in the Gulf to Lebanon,' adding that 'they are used to visiting Lebanon, but recent circumstances have hindered their travel.' He also highlighted the government's commitment to modernization and digital transformation. 'We are working on building an e-government and integrating artificial intelligence into state institutions. Our ministerial statement emphasized the importance of transformation in Lebanon. We already have a Ministry of Administrative Development that oversees digital governance, and we are in the process of establishing a Ministry of Artificial Intelligence,' Salam stated. He further added, 'We are benefiting from the UAE's experience in artificial intelligence, and the country has expressed full readiness to cooperate with Lebanon in this leap forward, which will simplify administrative procedures and help reduce corruption.'

Makki discusses digital transformation strategy with World Bank delegation
NNA – Minister of State for Administrative Development, Dr. Fadi Makki, on Tuesday met with a delegation from the World Bank at his office, led by Sylvia Solf, Practice Manager for the Middle East and North Africa, alongside Digital Development Specialist Abdullah Jabbour and Senior Digital Development Specialist Christopher Tullis. Discussions reportedly focused on previous efforts that led to the adoption of Lebanon's Digital Transformation Strategy in 2022. The meeting emphasized the need for a clear roadmap with prioritized actions to initiate the strategy's implementation. Particular attention was given to fast-tracking key projects, including digital identity and electronic signature systems. The role of the Ministry of Administrative Development in coordinating efforts across ministries and agencies, in collaboration with the Minister of State for Technology and Artificial Intelligence, was also highlighted. =======R.H.

UK Ambassador expresses optimism about Lebanon's future in meeting with Finance Minister
Lebanon's Finance Minister Yassine Jaber met with British Ambassador Hamish Cowell, who congratulated him on his new role. Upon arrival, Cowell greeted Jaber in Arabic, saying, 'I am optimistic' about Lebanon's situation and emphasized the UK's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. Minister Jaber stressed that the new government is committed to implementing reforms to help Lebanon overcome its crisis, highlighting that the necessary legislation is already in place and needs proper enforcement to accelerate structural improvements across various sectors. Jaber also met with Minister of Administrative Development Fadi Maki to discuss their ministries' collaboration on training and digitalization efforts. Additionally, he held talks with MP Ibrahim Kanaan, head of the Parliamentary Finance and Budget committee, who affirmed the committee's commitment to supporting the ministry's reform agenda. Who Is Tarek Metri, Lebanon's New Deputy Prime Minister
Tarek Metri is a well-known academic and politician who has made important contributions to Lebanon's public affairs. Since 2018, he has been the President of Saint George University in Beirut, where he has worked to improve the university's reputation and encourage research partnerships.
