'A pretty amazing opportunity': G7 delegates to get gift bags full of Alberta products

Article content But that's now a realistic possibility, after one of the Edmonton-based company's signature glasses was selected to be included in a goody bag gifted to delegates at the G7 Leaders' Summit, which runs in Kananaskis Country from Sunday to Tuesday. Article content 'Not in a million years,' Walker said with a laugh, when asked if he ever thought U.S. President Donald Trump or French President Emmanuel Macron would one day drink from a MTNPK tumbler. Article content Article content Next week's G7 summit will bring some of the world's most powerful politicians to the Calgary area for three days of geopolitical discussion, including heads of government from Canada, the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Japan, Italy and the European Union. Article content Prime Minister Mark Carney has also invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as leaders from Mexico, Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and South Africa. Article content The G7 goody bags, an initiative led by the City of Calgary, will be gifted to dignitaries and their entourages. Article content The gift bags are in lieu of the city's traditional white hat ceremony, when prominent visitors receive a white Smithbilt cowboy hat upon arriving at the YYC International Airport. That ceremonial tradition was scrapped for this summit over heightened security protocol, though delegates will still receive the iconic hats in their tote bag. Article content Article content While the city hasn't confirmed how many of the tote bags will be handed out, the G7 is expected to welcome approximately 2,000 international delegates. Article content Article content Walker said the opportunity to have the Three Sisters lowball glass — which depicts the iconic trio of mountain peaks just outside Canmore at the bottom of the glass — included in the G7 goody bag came after the city reached out to the company. Article content 'For me, that was like, holy crap,' he said, adding the city ultimately ordered 45 units. 'It's an amazing opportunity and we were (happy) to be able to help fill their needs.'

Lisnagarvey and Banbridge set up all-Ulster Playoff Final
In the first of the men's semi-finals, Lisnagarvey eased past YMCA with a 5-2 win at Havelock Park. Oliver Kidd opened the scoring in the dying stages of the first quarter when he converted with a sliding deflection from a penalty corner to give his side the lead at the first break. Midway through the second quarter, Adam Walker converted from a YMCA corner to restore parity in the tie, but they weren't level for long as Jonny Lynch restored the Garvey lead just moments later. Soon after the Garvey lead was doubled as Lisnagarvey were awarded another penalty corner with youngster John Cunningham converting with a drag flick into the bottom left corner. As the final quarter got underway YMCA once again reduced the deficit with a strike from Adam Walker, however, as they game entered the closing stages, Matthew Nelson struck with a sensational effort before Mark McNellis sealed their final spot. In the second Semi-Final, Banbridge booked their spot in the final with a 3-1 win over Three Rock Rovers. Louis Rowe and Ben Johnson both struck early for their respective sides, netting from two penalty corners to leave the sides level at the end of the first quarter. However, it was the Ulster side who went on to control the tie with Josh Moffett striking either side of the half-time break to fire his side into a comfortable 3-1 lead in third period. A second Louis Rowe effort then seemingly sealed the win for the hosts whilst a late strike from Luke Madeley proved to be a consolation for the Dubliners. The final day of the EYHL playoffs saw Ulster Elks miss out on a spot in the final with a 2-0 loss to Railway Union. Two strikes from Lily Lloyd and Katie Mullan sealed the win for the Dublin side who now prepare to face league champions Loreto in the final. In the Ulster Men's Premier League, champions Cookstown celebrated lifting the title with a sensational 12-2 win over North Down. Captain and top scorer Jack Haycock was the star performer for the side as he netted three penalty corners and stroke in the first half alongside efforts from Scott McCabe and Ryan Millar to give their side a 6-0 lead at the midway stage. The hosts dominance continued into the second half when Haycock struck for his fifth of the afternoon picking out the top right corner with another perfectly executed drag flick. Forward Greg Allen then netted the goal of the day as he latched on to an aerial into the circle before volleying over both his head and the goalkeeper before finding the back of the net. Meanwhile there were also late goals for Haycock, McCabe, Mark Cuddy and Daniel Kerr to round of the scoring for the champions. There were two consolation efforts for the visitors but with no impact on the end result, they now go into their relegation playoff off the back of their heaviest defeat of the campaign.

Bristol man with cerebral palsy to swim 5km in latest fundraiser
A man with cerebral palsy known for taking on fundraising challenges says he is training for his next Jenkins, from Bristol, is planning to swim 5km (three miles) in open water at Adam Walker's lake, in Lincolnshire, for has previously done bungee jumps and indoor skydives - but the most he has previously swum for charity is 1.6km (one mile) in to BBC Radio Bristol, he said he needed "24-hour care to get around, to get up and live my life", adding: "But I try to live my life to the fullest." Mr Jenkins uses a wheelchair and had surgery in 2023 to straighten his spine. He says his cerebral palsy affects all four of his limbs and his speech. 'I love to swim' He explained he was now in training to take on the challenge in September - and said he expected it to last at least eight water temperature should be about 14C to 15C and he will wear a wetsuit, Mr Jenkins added."It's what I do, I love to swim," he said. "I'm going to be using a snorkel to breathe and I'm not going to be on my back."Mr Jenkins is raising money for Bristol-based charity Cerebral Palsy Plus and has collected more than £350 so far.
