Nepali woman caught with Indian passport at Bengaluru airport
Immigration officials at the Kempegowda International Airport on Thursday arrested a 32-year-old woman from Nepal after she was found travelling with an Indian passport. The accused was trying to board an Abu Dhabi-bound flight, the officials said. The accused, identified as Mina Kumari Dhamena, was stopped on suspicion to verify her tourist visa. The sleuths said that the accused has been booked under the Passports Act and for forgery. During questioning, the officials found that she is a resident of Nepal but has a valid Indian passport. Further questioning revealed that she was born in Nepal, came to India in 2012 and stayed in U.P. before shifting to Bengaluru. A cook by profession, Dhamena managed to get Voter Id and PAN card through an agent using which she applied for the Indian passport. She was planning to visit UAE on a tourist visa to find a job. This is the second incident in a week at KIA. Earlier this Sushmita Rai, 26, was caught by the immigration officials while trying to board a flight to Hong Kong on employment visa with a valid Indian passport.

Man who made bomb threat while on plane bound for Abu Dhabi to be charged
An aircraft was recalled to Changi Airport Terminal 2 after a bomb threat was made by a man on board the plane on Feb 14, 2025. - Photo: ST SINGAPORE: A 22-year-old man who was arrested in February for allegedly making a bomb threat on an Abu Dhabi-bound flight is slated to be charged on Thursday (June 5). The police said they were alerted on Feb 14 at 7.20pm to a social media post containing a threat to blow up an aircraft. Through follow-up investigations, the police identified the man within an hour of the post and confirmed that he was on board a flight bound for Abu Dhabi. The aircraft, which was already taxiing on the runway and about to take off, was recalled to Changi Airport Terminal 2, the police said in a statement on Wednesday (June 4). The man was later arrested and investigations revealed that he allegedly posted 'No one here knows I'm going to blow the plane up' on his social media account, after he had boarded the aircraft. It was later discovered that the man did not have any means to carry out his threat, as no threat items were discovered in his possession, the police said. If found guilty, he may be jailed for up to seven years, fined up to S$50,000, or both. - The Straits Times/ANN

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed rapid traffic enhancements on Sheikh Zayed Road, significantly improving efficiency, reducing congestion, and increasing road capacity. These upgrades align with Dubai's urban expansion, ensuring smoother traffic flow while upholding the highest safety standards. The enhancements focused on key locations along Sheikh Zayed Road, a critical economic corridor surrounded by major commercial and residential landmarks, including the Dubai International Financial Centre, Burj Khalifa, and Dubai Mall. As a vital route for business and daily commuting, optimizing its traffic flow remains a priority. Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, highlighted the improvements, stating: 'By implementing innovative traffic solutions, RTA aims to provide a seamless and safe travel experience for all road users.' Among the key upgrades, RTA expanded the service road near Financial Centre Metro Station (Abu Dhabi-bound), increasing lanes from three to four. This enhancement boosted road capacity by 25%, accommodating 3,200 vehicles per hour and cutting travel time from five minutes to two. Additionally, the merging distance between Al Khail Road and Financial Centre Street (Dubai-bound) was extended, easing congestion and reducing journey time by 25%—from four minutes to three. With these strategic enhancements, RTA continues to reinforce Dubai's position as a leader in smart and efficient road infrastructure, supporting the city's long-term mobility goals. RTA completes expansion of Sheikh Zayed Road
And it has boosted capacity in this area by 25 per cent… Traffic in Dubai, yeah, yeah, we know. However RTA are trying their best to reduce it in various different areas around the city. In fact, there are 33 things either done recently or in the works by RTA and Dubai Government to help ease traffic in Dubai and in this case it's on the main road we all love and adore, Sheikh Zayed Road. RTA just announced the completion of their expansion of Sheikh Zayed Road and it's due to ease traffic and enhance road capacity by 25 per cent. To be exact, RTA have expanded the service road adjacent to Financial Centre Metro Station in the Abu Dhabi-bound direction, increasing the number of lanes from three to four. This enhancement has boosted road capacity significantly, and it can now hold 3,200 vehicles per hour, up from 2,400 vehicles. That's a lot of cars… The upgrade has also reduced congestion at the entrance, eliminated vehicle queues, and generally improved traffic flow, cutting the journey time from five minutes to just two minutes. Every little helps. Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency stated that RTA had optimised the traffic merging distance between Al Khail Road and Financial Centre Street in the Dubai-bound direction. 'Extending the merging distance has eased congestion and improved service levels, resulting in a 25% reduction in journey time along Sheikh Zayed Road—from four minutes to three minutes—ensuring smoother and more efficient traffic flow,' This update is welcomed, and will especially ease commuters journeys home at rush hour. This announcement comes after a recent announcement of the use of AI-powered traffic systems that will also assist in the improvement of traffic flow.
