Model rocket launch trials in Kushinagar inspire students ahead of national competition
Lucknow: It was a distinctive experience for locals, particularly kids, in a Kushinagar village this weekend when the skies witnessed successful test trials of model rocket launch systems. The launch forms the part of the preparatory phase for a national competition to be held in Kushinagar in Oct-Nov, where over 100 student-built rocket models will be launched, said officials. Conducted by the Astronautical Society of India (ASI), the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), and the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), these tests were designed to validate the rocket launcher developed by a private company-- Thrust Tech India Pvt Ltd. According to Isro scientist Abhishek Singh, the trials were conducted to qualify the above private company to deliver the rockets and motor. The weight of the model rocket was 15 kg and it soared to 1km. "The trial launches were aimed to test the suitability of the launch site and other requirements such as safety margins, communication range, area recovery conditions, etc. The parameters of the launcher have met the competition requirement," Singh said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Complete protection with iPru All-in-one Term Plan ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo He added that the rockets for the finals are being designed and developed by the student teams from across the country. Muzaffarnagar cops return 235 lost, stolen phones
Agra: When hundreds of Muzaffarnagar residents, mostly daily wagers, gathered at the police lines on Tuesday at the district police's invitation, they had no idea they'd get their lost or stolen smartphones back. A total of 235 mobile phones, recovered over the past few months, were returned to their rightful owners. Valued at an estimated Rs 48-50 lakh, the devices were recovered through digital tracking by police's surveillance and Special Operations Group (SOG) teams. SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma said the phones had gone missing under various circumstances — during train journeys, weddings, processions. Across India, police have increasingly been using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, developed by the department of telecommunications, to track and block lost phones. Once reported on CEIR, a lost phone is blacklisted, making it unusable and traceable if reconnected to a network. In Muzaffarnagar, residents were not told the reason for the gathering, resulting in emotional scenes as they spotted their long-lost phones displayed on tables. "I bought this phone after saving money. I was devastated when it was stolen from me while I was walking home. I never imagined I'd get it back. I thank the police for recovering it," said one recipient. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What She Did Mid-Air Left Passengers Speechless medalmerit Learn More Undo As recognition for the recovery operation, the SSP announced a Rs 20,000 cash reward for the police teams involved. A similar initiative was conducted last Aug, when Muzaffarnagar Police's surveillance cell returned 214 phones, worth around Rs 41 lakh, to their owners. That operation had been launched by then SSP Abhishek Singh and led by SP (City) Satyanarayan Prajapat. Phones reported lost over four months were tracked and retrieved through sustained digital surveillance. According to data from the CEIR portal, over 1.9 lakh devices were blocked and more than 1.2 lakh handsets were traced in Uttar Pradesh, while police have so far successfully retrieved 31,545 devices. Across the country, over 4.6 lakh phones have been recovered so far, with Telangana Police leading with 82,265 recoveries.

Bank sells Bihar man's 'fake' gold even after he pays off loan; SC backs borrower
The Supreme Court has reinstated an FIR and chargesheet against Bank of India officials in Bihar's Motijheel branch, after a gold loan customer accused them of not returning pledged ornaments despite full repayment, TOI has reported. The case involves Abhishek Singh, who had pledged 254 grams of 22-carat gold to secure a Rs 7.7 lakh loan on July 22, 2020, and repaid it on March 31, 2023. When Singh asked for his gold back, the bank claimed the ornaments had been revaluated during the loan default period and found to be fake. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo It said the items were auctioned off, and an FIR was filed against Singh for cheating on May 22, 2023. Singh then filed a counter FIR accusing the bank staff of misappropriating his gold. The Patna High Court quashed Singh's FIR, saying it was a retaliatory move. However, the Supreme Court, in a judgment last week, reversed the HC order and said the matter warrants a full trial, TOI reported. Live Events "It is true that the appellant (Abhishek Singh) repaid the amount, but with substantial delay. However, once the loan is settled, it is difficult to understand as to why the gold was revalued and auctioned," a bench of Justices Sanjay Karol and Manoj Misra observed. Writing the judgment, Justice Karol added, "At all times, the appellant had no access to the gold which, after its initial valuation, was always kept in the safe custody of the bankers. Fraud, if any, whether perpetrated at the first instance of valuation or later, is a matter which could be unearthed only after a trial based on the evidence led by the parties." Criticising the High Court's approach, the bench said, "The discussion made by the high court in quashing the FIR in no way addresses the possibility of the respondents' possible involvement in the misappropriation of the gold pledged." The top court concluded that Singh's allegations merit investigation. "But, as of now, in no circumstances, it can be said that no prima facie case regarding commission of an offence, as alleged in the FIR, is made out from its perusal."

UP conducts first successful model rocket launch carrying payload
A successful model rocket launching test was conducted in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district, marking the first time a payload was launched via a rocket from the state, officials said. The test conducted on Saturday by the Astronautical Society of India in association with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) and Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) saw the model rocket ascend 1.12 km at 5:14:33 PM, a complete success. Isro scientist Abhishek Singh, who was present at the test site, said, "The rocket was launched at 5:14 PM and 33 seconds, which went up to a height of 1.1 km. After this, a small satellite (payload) came out. As soon as it fell down to 5 metres, its parachute activated and the satellite landed within 400 metres on the ground." The 15 kg rocket also descended safely. This test was part of IN-SPACe Model Rocketry/CANSAT India Student Competition 2024-25 and a prelude to a larger event in October-November, where around 900 youth-built satellites will be tested. Vinod Kumar, Director Promotion Directorate at IN-SPACe, confirmed the test a success. "This event is being organised to generate interest in space technology among children across the region and the whole of India," he said. This was the first time a satellite was directly launched by a rocket in Uttar Pradesh, proving entirely successful, Kumar said. IN-SPACe is an autonomous body operating under the Department of Space (DoS). It acts as a single-window agency to facilitate, promote, authoriSe, and oversee the involvement of Non-Governmental Entities (NGEs) in a wide range of space-related endeavours.
