The movie partnered with F1 in an official capacity and has appearances of real drivers and teams. There was footage captured at actual, current-day race tracks as well. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, "F1" features Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt, returning to the Formula 1 grid after retiring 30 years ago. Hayes was in a scary accident that ended his career early, but his former teammate, Ruben Cervantes, played by Javier Bardem, calls on Hayes to return.
