Red Cross honours Sri City for outstanding blood donation initiative
Sri City: Sri City has been recognised by Indian Red Cross Society, AP State Branch with a certificate of appreciation on World Blood Donors Day-2025, for its commendable contribution in organising one of the highest blood donation camps in the state. In a ceremony held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Guntur, the award was presented by Minister for Health, Y Satya Kumar Yadav on Saturday, Senior Manager in Sri City Foundation Surendra Kumar received the award on behalf of Sri City, accompanied by representatives from Isu-zu Motors India and Axxelent Pharma Science, who also supported the noble cause. Sri City stood Second in the category of 'Highest Blood Units Collect-ed in a Single Camp' for the year 2023–24, reflecting its sustained commitment to social responsibility and public health. Commenting on the recognition, Director (CSR) of Sri City Nireesha Sannareddy said that this recognition by the Red Cross reaffirms their belief that industrial development must walk hand-in-hand with social commitment.

Governor appeals for voluntary blood donation
Vijayawada: S Abdul Nazeer, Governor and president of Indian Red Cross Society, AP State Branch, appealed for voluntary blood donation by all eligible persons on the occasion of World Blood Donors Day being observed on Saturday. The day is observed to recall the importance of blood donation for the healthcare system across the world, the Governor said. This year the World Blood Donors Day 2025 is observed with the theme of 'Give Blood, Give Hope, and Together We Save Lives.' Governor Abdul Nazeer has urged all students and youth in the State to register themselves as blood donors through the AP RED CROSS Mobile App and come forward for voluntary blood donation and donate blood in the 20 Red Cross Blood Centres across the State and save lives of millions of people and particularly the poor and the downtrodden.

Expand blood transfusion services in Andhra Pradesh: Governor S Abdul Nazeer
VIJAYAWADA: Governor S Abdul Nazeer, who also serves as the president of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), AP State Branch, emphasised the pivotal role of the Red Cross in providing blood to the needy during the World Red Cross Day and International Thalassemia Day celebrations held at Raj Bhavan's Durbar Hall in Vijayawada on Thursday. Addressing the gathering, he stated that the Red Cross AP State Branch operates 20 blood centres, collecting over 65,000 units annually and issuing more than 1 lakh units of blood. He noted that one-third of these units are supplied free of cost to underprivileged patients undergoing treatment in government hospitals. Earlier, the Governor virtually inaugurated the Red Cross Thalassemia Blood Transfusion Centre at the Srikakulam District Red Cross Blood Centre and lauded the initiative for supporting children and individuals requiring critical transfusion services. He also directed officials to expand transfusion services at all blood centres equipped with component facilities. In another significant move, the Governor unveiled a plaque of the Red Cross Child Care, Women Welfare & Skill Development Centre in Kakinada. During the event, he presented Red Cross awards and medals to district collectors P Prasanthi (Rajahmundry), DK Balaji (Krishna), O Anand (Nellore), G Raja Kumari (Nandyal), Sagili Shan Mohan (Kakinada), P Ranjit Basha (Kurnool), C Naga Rani (Bhimavaram), and J Venkata Murali (Bapatla) for their exceptional contributions to the Red Cross movement. First Lady Sameera Nazeer, Dr M Hari Jawaharlal, Secretary to the Governor, YD Rama Rao, Chairman, and AK Parida, CEO & General Secretary of Red Cross Andhra Pradesh State Branch, along with other officials and Red Cross members, attended the event.
