American Power Company awarded $100,000 NSF SuperBoost grant to optimize battery cell formation using AI
Funding from the NSF Energy Storage Engine in Upstate New York to enhance battery manufacturing efficiency and performance ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 18, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- American Power Company (APC), a pioneer in AI-driven battery manufacturing optimization, has been awarded a $100,000 SuperBoost grant from the National Science Foundation Energy Storage Engine in Upstate New York. The funding will accelerate the development of APC's AI-powered cell formation optimization model, designed to improve lithium-ion battery performance, reduce production time and lower manufacturing costs. The formation cycling process — the precise charge-discharge sequence that activates a newly assembled battery — plays a crucial role in determining a battery's efficiency, longevity and energy density. However, current methods remain slow and costly. APC's project will integrate artificial intelligence and active learning techniques to refine this process, offering a pathway to faster, more cost-effective and higher-performing battery production. The ability to optimize battery formation cycling has broad implications for the energy storage sector. By reducing the formation cycle time from multiple days to just hours, APC's AI-driven solution could significantly cut production costs and enable faster scaling of lithium-ion gigafactories worldwide. With an initial focus on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pouch cells, the project will use the RIT Battery Development Center to conduct experimental validation and process refinement. "Battery cell formation is a well-known bottleneck in lithium-ion cell production," said Lincoln Miara, CTO of American Power Company. "Our AI-driven approach has the potential to drastically reduce cycle times while enhancing battery quality. With the support of the NSF Energy Storage Engine in Upstate New York, we're developing a scalable solution that will optimize global battery production." The SuperBoost program, a core initiative of the Energy Storage Engine, is designed to fast-track the commercialization of transformative battery technologies. By reducing the time-to-market from over five years to under two years, the program connects startups with funding, infrastructure and industry partnerships to support rapid technology deployment. SuperBoost funding has already accelerated numerous groundbreaking projects, and AI-driven manufacturing is a particularly critical area of focus as the industry looks to scale battery production efficiently. Nancy outlines four core principles for civil service excellence at KPWKM
BANGI: Leadership and governance, performance and talent development, technology and digitalisation, as well as staff well-being and engagement, are the four key principles that must be embraced by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) personnel. Speaking at the ministry's 2025 Excellent Service Awards (APC) ceremony today, Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri emphasised that leadership is not merely about holding positions, but about carrying trust and responsibility. 'Every civil servant must be given space to learn and grow. 'Technology is essential to ensure our services are efficient and people-friendly, while fostering staff well-being and engagement will create a team that supports one another to deliver high-quality work,' she said. Nancy noted that KPWKM plays a pivotal role in driving the Public Service Reform Agenda (ARPA), which goes beyond system improvement to include values and work ethics that can bring meaningful transformation to public service. She also expressed confidence that the ministry can internalise the HEMAT values - Hijrah Tatakelola (Governance Transformation), Empati Rakyat (Empathy for the People), Minda Pekin (Progressive Mindset), Apresiasi Inovasi (Appreciation of Innovation), and Tadbir Urus Telus (Transparent Governance) - in its daily operations. 'Even a small gesture, like answering a call politely, can have a significant impact on the ministry's image,' she said. Nancy also urged KPWKM staff to uphold the '3Is' concept - Integrity, Sincerity (Ikhlas), and Reform (Islah) - as a foundation for sustaining excellence, in line with the government's aspiration to strengthen holistic public service delivery. At the event, a total of 646 ministry personnel were honoured with the Excellent Service Award for their outstanding performance in 2024. The Social Welfare Department recorded the highest number of recipients with 525 awardees, including eight persons with disabilities. Nancy said the APC is more than just a recognition of outstanding work, as it also serves as a morale booster for the staff to continue serving the public with commitment and passion. Also present at the event were Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad and secretary-general Datuk Dr Maziah Che Yusoff.

Sharjah prepares for July session of APC
The Arab Parliament for the Child (APC) will convene its second session of the fourth cycle at its headquarters in Sharjah from July 22-27, under the patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the follow-up of Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. The organisational committees of the Arab Parliament for the Child held a coordination meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the APC, to prepare and examine all organisational, technical and administrative details to ensure the success of this event. Participants reviewed the operational progress and followed up on coordination efforts with supporting partners and collaborating entities within the Government of Sharjah. They also discussed the latest developments related to receiving delegations from Arab countries and parliamentary teams participating in the session, in coordination with the League of Arab States and its accredited permanent missions in Cairo. Al-Barout affirmed that under the wise directives of Sharjah's leadership, the Arab Parliament for the Child remains committed to organising the children's parliamentary session to the highest professional and institutional standards. He noted that Sharjah will host young Arab parliamentarians this July, who will gather at the Sharjah Consultative Council to voice their visions, concerns and issues from their communities through a parliamentary approach based on dialogue and conscious expression. Recently, the APC took part in the 17th National Conference on Children's Rights in Morocco. Al Barout delivered a speech during the opening session. He conveyed greetings from the Parliament's headquarters in Sharjah and praised Morocco's leadership, under King Mohammed VI, for its commitment to advancing child rights amidst modern social and technological shifts.
