Sebastian Stan & The White Lotus Star to Lead Crime Movie Burning Rainbow Farm

Academy Award nominee Sebastian Stan (A Different Man, The Apprentice) and Leo Woodall (The White Lotus, One Day) have officially been tapped for the leading roles in the upcoming crime drama titled, Burning Rainbow Farm. The movie is based on a real-life police standoff between a gay cannabis activist couple and the Michigan police force. 'The film is set to tell the story of Tom Crosslin and Rollie Rohm, two gay cannabis activists who met in the early 1990s and set up the peaceful, pot-friendly utopia Rainbow Farm in Michigan, a site that was once listed by High Times magazine as 'fourteenth on the list of twenty-five Top Stoner Travel Spots in the world,'' reads the official synopsis. 'But the pair ran afoul of local authorities and, when their young son was taken from them, a police standoff ensued that would lead to one of the largest and most dramatic sieges America has ever seen.' Burning Rainbow Farm will be directed and produced by Justin Kurzel from a screenplay written by Tommy Murphy, based on Dean Kuipers' 2006 book of the same name. It is produced Nicole O'Donohue and Alexandra Taussig for Thirdborn, Adam Shulman of Anonymous Content, Alix Madigan of Mad Dog Films, and Justin Lothrop and Brent Stiefel of Votiv. 'Burning Rainbow is a love story about two outliers who raise their middle finger to hate and declare 'This is who we are, and we dare you to take it from us',' Kurzel said in a statement (via Variety). 'I'm excited to create this loveable and courageous couple with Sebastian and Leo, their union will be one to remember.' New The Elephant Man Movie Casts A Different Man Star in Lead Role

Adam Pearson has officially been tapped for the leading role in the Elephant Man movie based on the award-winning play of the same name by Bernard Pomerance. This marks Pearson's first movie project following the critical success of the 2024 psychological dark comedy movie A Different Man, which was also led by Sebastian Stan. The upcoming project will be written by Bernard Pomerance's son Moby Pomerance, with daughter Eve Pomerance also serving as a producer for Major Motion Pictures. The movie will be produced by Stephen Nemeth for Rhino Films. Production is expected to begin in the spring of 2026. In the film, Pearson is set to take over the role Joseph Merrick, an English man known for his physical deformities. This will be the first time that a disabled actor will be playing Merrick on screen after he was previously portrayed by David Schofield, David Bowie, Mark Hamill, and Bradley Cooper in different productions of the Pomerance's play, and by John Hurt in David Lynch's 1980 movie. 'Joseph Merrick is a man I have a long and complex relationship with. From having his name used as a term of derision to learning about the man himself in documentaries I've presented,' Pearson said in a statement. 'It's been a cathartic journey of growing to love and respect a man who I as a child I avoided even thinking about. Now as a disability advocate and actor, I can think of no greater honour (yet heavy responsibility) than to tell the true story of Joseph Carey Merrick.' Eve Pomerance added, 'My father never wanted prosthetics to be used on stage as he felt it took the audience out of the story. He wanted them to empathise fully with Merrick, to see themselves in him. Lines like, 'I am not an animal, I am a man' which have become synonymous with the play, will take on greater meaning with Adam telling this story and enable the audience to finally stand in Merrick's shoes. My father would be beyond excited to see his dream becoming a reality.' Adam Pearson 'beyond honoured' to star in Elephant Man remake

Adam Pearson will star in a new adaptation of 'The Elephant Man'. The 'A Different Man' actor - who has neurofibromatosis - is "beyond honoured" to have been cast as Joseph Merrick in a new feature film, which will be written by Moby Pomerance, the son of the late Bernard Pomerance, who wrote the original 'Elephant Man' play. Adam wrote on X: "Well — here's the announcement — I am beyond honoured to be playing this role and involved in this project. "Shout out to my reps and family for their unwavering support and huge shout out to those who follow and support my work. I love you all." John Hurt played the role in David Lynch's 1980 'Elephant Man' film while the likes of Bradley Cooper, the late David Bowie, Billy Crudup and Mark Hamill have all played Merrick - who got his nickname as an exhibit in 19th century freak shows due to his physical disfigurements - on stage, but 40-year-old Adam will be the first disabled actor to take the role on screen, Variety reports. The acto noted Merrick "is a man I have a long and complex relationship with." He added in a statement: "From having his name used as a term of derision to learning about the man himself in documentaries I've presented. It's been a cathartic journey of growing to love and respect a man who I as a child I avoided even thinking about. "Now as a disability advocate and actor, I can think of no greater honour (yet heavy responsibility) than to tell the true story of Joseph Carey Merrick.' The 'Under the Skin' actor previously criticised the BBC for casting 'Stranger Things' star Charlie Heaton as Merrick in a TV adaptation which appeared to later be shelved. He told LBC Radio in 2018: "I think the job ultimately should go to the best actor, however, actors with the condition you're trying to portray should absolutely be the first port of call, irrespective of how much extra effort that is for a casting director or production crew. "Don't be lazy, be authentic." And Adam admitted he would always be subjected to ridicule when he was younger if 'The Elephant Man' was ever on TV. He told People magazine last year: Anytime 'The Elephant Man' or 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' was on TV, the next day I'd hear that nickname." Filming is scheduled to begin on 'The Elephant Man' next year.

A Different Man's Adam Pearson to star in new film of The Elephant Man

Adam Pearson, the actor who appeared in Under the Skin and the Oscar-nominated A Different Man, is to play the lead role in a new adaptation of The Elephant Man. According to Variety, Pearson will play Joseph Merrick, whose physical disfigurement led to him becoming a freak show exhibit and then a notable figure in late Victorian London, in a film based on the celebrated play by Bernard Pomerance that became a hit in London and New York after premiering in 1977. Pomerance's son Moby is writing the screenplay, and shooting is due to begin in 2026. Pearson, who has neurofibromatosis and will be the first disabled actor to play the role on film, said in a statement: 'Joseph Merrick is a man I have a long and complex relationship with. From having his name used as a term of derision to learning about him in documentaries I've presented, it's been a cathartic journey of growing to love and respect a man who as a child I avoided even thinking about. Now as a disability advocate and actor, I can think of no greater honour (yet heavy responsibility) than to tell the true story of Joseph Carey Merrick.' Merrick was born in Leicester in 1862 and after becoming an exhibit in a 'penny gaff' in London, came under the care of pioneering surgeon Frederick Treves, who gave Merrick accommodation at the London hospital, where he died in 1890. The exact nature of his condition is not known, with suggestions he may have had neurofibromatosis or Proteus syndrome, or both. Pomerance's play was first performed in the UK in 1977, with David Schofield in the lead role; subsequent productions featured actors including Philip Anglim, David Bowie and Bradley Cooper as Merrick. The celebrated film of the same title, starring John Hurt and directed by David Lynch, was not adapted from the play.

Marvel star Sebastian Stan was 'saved' by $65,000 'Hot Tub Time Machine' check

Sebastian Stan is everywhere these days. Fresh off of an Academy Award nomination for "The Apprentice" and a Golden Globe win for "A Different Man," the 42-year-old will soon star in the upcoming Marvel flick "Thunderbolts*." Stan has appeared in 11 films and and 5 TV series since 2020. But the actor hasn't always been in such high demand. Indeed, in a recent Vanity Fair profile Stan said that there was a point not too long ago when he was struggling financially. Stan explained that until he was cast as Bucky Barnes in 2011's "Captain America: The First Avenger," landing a gig was difficult. "I was actually struggling with work," he said. But financial salvation came from an unexpected place: a raunchy comedy he had starred in the year before. "I had just gotten off the phone with my business manager, who told me I was saved by $65,000 that came in residuals from 'Hot Tub Time Machine,'" he said. Since being cast as Bucky, Stan has gone on to reprise the role more than 10 times, becoming a household name in the process. Stan isn't the only Marvel star to struggle financially before his big break. Josh Brolin, who portrayed the villain Thanos, said last year that he struggled to work consistently for decades, adding that he was "always the one that was paid the least" on a movie set. In 2007, Brolin appeared in Ridley Scott's hit "American Gangster" and "No Country for Old Men," which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. The two roles would turn his fortunes around, both in terms of landing steady acting work, as well as financially. But between shooting the films and their release, Brolin said he was "broke." Most of his money had gone to paying off debts he had accrued, and "whatever money I did make went back into family stuff." He had no jobs lined up and had taken home just $30,000 from his time on "No Country." "I was in a panic at that point," he said. But then he received a call from his lawyer. "She was like, 'Guess what, you got some backend [pay] from 'American Gangster.'" She sent him the number, which he read as $60,000. After taxes and fees, he would be taking home "maybe 25 grand," a number he called "amazing." "I called her and I was like 'I can't believe this. Sixty grand. That's amazing,'" he recalled. "And she said 'Look at it again.' And I had missed a zero. I started bawling. I started crying. It just made no sense to me. It was winning the lottery. I could never act again and live for the rest of my life off of $600,000. At that point in my life, I could make $600,000 last five lifetimes."
