Taiwan Expo 2025 in Malaysia Opens Doors to New Partnerships from 23-25 June

The 2025 edition of the Taiwan Expo in Malaysia is set to take place from 23 to 25 June 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Over 200 Taiwanese exhibitors will showcase their products and services based on the five key themes: AI & Industry 4.0, Health & Wellness, Green & Sustainability, Smart Lifestyle, and Culture & Tourism. This year marks the 8th edition of the Taiwan Expo in Malaysia. This event has garnered overwhelming support from 26 trade associations and chambers, including the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), the Small and Medium Enterprises Association (SME Malaysia), and the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Malaysia (TWCHAM), among others. This strong backing from trade organisations reflects the deep grassroots ties between Malaysia and Taiwan. In addition to exploring 10 thematic pavilions and featuring industrial zones, trade visitors can participate in one-on-one business matching, the AI Innovation Seminar and various industry-related workshops and presentations. The Expo aims to provide participants with the latest industrial trends, insights and diverse business opportunities from Taiwan – all under one roof. Deputy Executive Director of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) Keven Cheng said that with much focus being on AI developments, the Taiwan Expo in Malaysia presents an opportunity for AI companies in Taiwan to showcase their innovations and real-world applications using AI. 'We have seen how AI applications can be used extensively, especially in the healthcare industry in Taiwan. We want to bring that application to Malaysia and showcase it, bringing more collaboration with Malaysia,' he said at the Taiwan Expo in Malaysia launching ceremony on 10 June 2025. He also said that Malaysia is emerging regionally as a global semiconductor hub and a rising centre for digital infrastructure in Southeast Asia, and this innovative approach to technology could allow Malaysia and Taiwan to work together on technology relating to data centres, AI and industry 4.0. He added that the 2025 Taiwan Expo in Malaysia is expected to have 10,000 visitors this year. 'Since its launch in 2017, the Taiwan Expo in Malaysia has attracted over 1,200 Taiwanese companies participating in this expo. This annual event has been highly successful, drawing approximately 160,000 visitors and generating more than USD 400 million in business opportunities,' he said. The launching ceremony event, which was also attended by Phoebe Yeh, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, as well as representatives from Malaysian trade associations and chambers, also saw previews of Taiwanese products and innovations being showcased, a sneak peek of what is to come for the upcoming Taiwan Expo. Taiwan Expo 2025 will be held from 23 to 25 June in Halls 4 and 5 of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The three-day event will be open daily from 10am to 6pm, with free admission. Trade visitors who engage in business discussions with participating exhibitors will have the chance to win round-trip air tickets to Taiwan. Business owners and the public interested in establishing trade relationships with Taiwanese companies are warmly invited to attend the Expo. Expanded SST requires careful consideration, says ACCCIM

PETALING JAYA: There is a need for careful consideration of the timing and sequencing of measures regarding the expanded sales and services tax (SST), says the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM). It added that this is particularly relevant for mid-sized small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as increased business costs can lead to higher consumer inflation. ACCCIM president Datuk Ng Yih Pyng noted that the government is cautious in identifying areas for rate increases, aiming to minimise negative effects on the public and businesses. "However, the increased costs could dampen discretionary consumer spending due to higher prices of non-essential goods and a broader range of taxed services," said Ng in a statement on Wednesday (June 11). "The service tax on rental and leasing would raise operating costs for many businesses, given a low exemption threshold for MSMEs with annual sales below RM500,000. "We would like to appeal to the government to consider deferring the implementation of the expanded SST to a later date when macroeconomic conditions are more certain. "We agree with the concerns raised by business groups in the construction, services, and manufacturing sectors over the timing of the SST expansion, increased costs, lack of clarity, and insufficient time for preparation." Ng then said that the government should actively engage with all stakeholders, considering their interests to ensure clear and smooth implementation.

Chambers sign pact to boost trade ties

Published on: Thursday, May 08, 2025 Published on: Thu, May 08, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: Sok (right) exchanges an MoU with his Malaysian counterpart Ng. PHNOM PENH: The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) and Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) have launched a joint initiative to enhance economic cooperation and increase bilateral trade. The two chambers signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to formalise their collaboration, according to a statement from CCC. ACCCIM President Datuk Ng Yih Pyng said the delegation aimed to partner with its Cambodian counterpart to explore new economic opportunities in the Kingdom. 'The main objective of the visit is to explore potential cooperation and promote sustainable events in Asean,' said Ng. The MoU sets out a framework for promoting economic ties and encouraging trade and investment between both countries. Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Cambodia reached about RM3.7 billion (US$865 million) in 2024. Malaysia's key exports to Cambodia include petroleum products, chemicals, textiles, apparel, footwear, metals, and non-metallic mineral products. Cambodian officials pointed to the country's young and energetic workforce, a productive investment climate, and supportive government policies as key advantages. 'There is a close economic relationship between Cambodia and Malaysia, strong trade demand, and Malaysian investment in key sectors,' said CCC Vice President Sok Piseth, according to the statement. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
