UFC on ABC 9: Bryce Mitchell explains why he moved down to bantamweight
UFC on ABC 9: Bryce Mitchell explains why he moved down to bantamweight Bryce Mitchell will compete at bantamweight for the first time in the UFC for his next fight. A perennial contender at featherweight throughout much of his UFC tenure, "Thug Nasty" came to a realization that he's perhaps a better fit at 135 pounds. That decision came immediately after his submission loss to Jean Silva at UFC 314 in April. "I pretty much made up my mind right after this last fight," Mitchell said in an interview with Home of Fight. "The guy was so much bigger than me, and I really felt it in the second round. In the first round, obviously I could tell he was bigger and stronger, but it was really in the second round where I felt it. I think that I'm a '35er. My weight's already come down quite a bit since I started dieting. I got this call two weeks ago, I think. So, I'm excited about it. Everything's going good." Mitchell (17-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) has been matched up with Said Nurmagomedov (18-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC) for his return to bantamweight at UFC on ABC 9 (ABC, ESPN, ESPN+) on July 26 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. "I feel like I'm going to win the fight, and I feel like I can beat anybody," Mitchell said of Nurmagomedov. "Him specifically, he's good at a lot of stuff. I respect him, and I'm going to put on a great show. That's a good thing for the fans. No matter how it goes for me or for Said, it's going to go great for the fans. I guarantee you it's going to be a fun fight because I'm going to make it a fun fight."

Whoopi Goldberg clashes with ‘View' co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin after claiming life in US is as bad as Iran
Whoopi Goldberg is facing backlash after some pointed remarks about the US and Iran this week. On Wednesday morning, during the latest episode of 'The View,' Goldberg appeared to claim that life in the US is just as bad as it is in Iran during a heated clash with her co-host, Alyssa Farah Griffin. The argument began as the panel, which also included co-hosts Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines, debated the correct course of action the US should take as the conflict between Israel and Iran continues to escalate in the Middle East. ABC 9 Goldberg appeared to claim that life in the US is just as bad as life in Iran during a clash with her co-host, Alyssa Farah Griffin, on 'The View' Wednesday morning. ABC 'Let's just remember, too, the Iranians literally throw gay people off of buildings,' Griffin, 36, said. 'They don't adhere to basic human rights or international law.' Advertisement It was then that Goldberg, 69, pushed back and suggested that the US was no better than Iran when it came to the country's treatment of 'gay folks' and 'Black people.' 'Let's not do that, because if we start with that, we have been known in this country to tie gay folks to the car,' she charged, adding that the US 'used to just keep hanging Black people.' 9 The comedian suggested that the US was no better than Iran when it came to the country's treatment of 'gay folks' and 'Black people.' ABC 9 'Let's just remember, too, the Iranians literally throw gay people off of buildings,' Griffin said. 'They don't adhere to basic human rights or international law.' ABC Advertisement Griffin quickly fired back and insisted that the modern-day US is 'nothing like' Iran. 'The year 2025 in the United States is nothing like if I stepped foot wearing this outfit in Tehran right now,' she argued, referencing Iran's capital. 'Not if you're Black,' Goldberg retorted after Griffin repeated her point that it's different to live in America in 2025 versus Iran. 'Uh, guys, don't go to Tehran,' Griffin responded. 'Do not. No one at this table can go to Tehran.' Advertisement 9 Goldberg and Griffin's the 'View' co-hosts tried to cut in amid the pair's heated argument. ABC 9 'The year 2025 in the United States is nothing like if I stepped foot wearing this outfit in Tehran right now,' Griffin insisted. ABC Although Goldberg conceded that the US 'is the greatest country in the world,' she also emphasized that there are still issues 'Black people' face every day. 'But every day, we are worried,' the comedian said. 'Do we have to be worried about our kids? Are their kids going to get shot because they're running through somebody's neighborhood?' 'They are not big deals,' she added, 'and I don't mean to say they're not big deals to you, because that's not what I meant.' 9 Goldberg conceded that the US 'is the greatest country in the world,' but also emphasized that there are still issues 'Black people' face every day. ABC Griffin then agreed that there are 'very real problems' in the US, but there are also 'places much darker' than America. 'Nobody wants to diminish the very real problems we have in this country,' she said shortly before Goldberg cut her off. 'That is no one's intent, but I think it's important we remember there are places much darker than this country, and people who deserve rights…' Advertisement 'Listen, not everybody feels that way,' Goldberg interrupted. 'Not everybody feels that way. Listen, I'm sorry, you know, when you think about the fact that we got the vote in 1965…' 'They don't have free and fair elections in Iran!' Griffin then interjected. 'It's not even the same universe!' 9 'They don't have free and fair elections in Iran!' Griffin interjected. 'It's not even the same universe!' ABC Although Behar, 82, attempted to cut in and calm both Goldberg and Griffin down, the pair continued their debate. Advertisement Goldberg ultimately ended the argument by announcing that 'The View' had to take a commercial break. The comedian faced major backlash on social media after the clip of her and Griffin's clash went viral. 'She is delusional,' one person tweeted regarding the 'Sister Act' star's comments, while another critic commented, 'Utter insanity to suggest this.' 9 Goldberg eventually ended the argument by announcing that 'The View' had to take a commercial break. ABC Advertisement 'Why does she not leave then? Since it's so awful and horrible here and everywhere else is so much better, then why doesn't she move?' a third person responded on X. 'Because she knows that it's not that bad and she's just lying for money.' 'Says a woman making 8 million a year,' another person tweeted. 'Yeah, right.' Goldberg and Griffin's war of words on Wednesday came just days after the 'View' co-hosts argued about the presence of ICE agents and the military in California during the Los Angeles protests and riots. The Post has reached out to Goldberg's rep for comment.

Marcus McGhee appreciates ex-UFC champ Petr Yan facing him: 'I guess I am in the mix now'
Marcus McGhee appreciates ex-UFC champ Petr Yan facing him: 'I guess I am in the mix now' Marcus McGhee will get the opportunity to jump the rankings if he can get past a former champion at UFC on ABC 9. McGhee (10-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) takes on ex-bantamweight champion Petr Yan (18-5 MMA, 10-4 UFC) on July 26 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Yan was on the cusp of title contention after back-to-back wins over Song Yadong and Deiveson Figueiredo, but now has to fight back in the rankings. With Cory Sandhagen touted as the next title challenger for bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili, Yan will have to fight one more time – and McGhee is grateful to be the one who gets the matchup. "I guess I am in the mix now, so I appreciate it and I'm down," McGhee told MMA Junkie Radio. "This is what we're for. This is what we're here to do. You can't take it away from Petr, but you can't take it from Cory Sandhagen, either. I do think Cory gets the next shot right now for sure over Petr. "You could argue for sure that Petr would deserve it, as well, and I definitely agree that Petr didn't necessarily have to take a fight against a guy like me being No. 13 – so I appreciate him taking the fight and the opportunity to fight him as well." McGhee's power has helped him prevail in the majority of his fights, but knows he's going up against not only an experienced fighter in Yan, but a well-rounded one as well. "It's Petr Yan. There aren't a lot of holes in his game," McGhee said. "He's a complete fighter, and that's what excites me. I'm going to be fighting one of the most complete fighters in the world, and I've got to use every weapon that I have – and that's the plan. I have a lot of different weapons that I can utilize as well, and it's whose weapons are going to be sharper July 26."

UFC champ Merab Dvalishvili: Projected matchup says a lot about bantamweight division
UFC champ Merab Dvalishvili: Projected matchup says a lot about bantamweight division UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili is confused by the rumored matchmaking for Petr Yan's next fight. While not yet official, Yan (18-5 MMA, 10-4 UFC) is expected to face Marcus McGhee (10-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) on July 26 at UFC on ABC 9 from Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, according to reports. His most recent loss came to Dvalishvili in March 2023. With the former bantamweight champion coming off back-to-back wins over Song Yadong and Deiveson Figueiredo, Dvalishvili (19-4 MMA, 12-2 UFC) expected him to be in the title picture, not fighting backwards. "This is a tough fight actually. The Marcus guy is strong, he looked good, it's a tough test for Petr Yan," Dvalishvili told Helen Yee. "Wow, I thought he was fighting for the belt, and now he has to fight another contender. That means that our division is very stuck, and it's not easy to fight for the belt. Good luck to him. Of course, I will be cheering him. We fought, and I always try to cheer the guys I fought. So, it's going to be a tough test for him, but I'm sure he will get it." Dvalishvili runs things back with Sean O'Malley (18-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) in Saturday's UFC 316 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) headliner at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. If he can get past O'Malley a second time, he sees one particular contender as an option for his next title defense. "I think right now (Cory) Sandhagen is ready, and we never fought each other," Dvalishvili said. "Maybe, I'm not sure. Whatever the UFC will decide. Whatever UFC thinks the fresh guy and the most deserving guy (is), I will fight."
