At least five people have died and two are missing amid flash flooding in San Antonio, Texas, according to reports Multiple vehicles were swept away after heavy rainfall resulted in "sudden fast rising water," the Associated Press reported, citing fire department spokesperson Joe Arrington Two men and three women have been pronounced dead, according to local station KSATAt least five people have died and two are missing as heavy rainfall flooded San Antonio, Texas, according to reports. On Thursday, June 12, floodwaters swept away multiple vehicles, with the rain resulting in the multiple deaths, which all occurred in the northeast part of the city, the Associated Press reported, citing authorities. According to local ABC-affiliated station KSAT, the San Antonio Police Department and San Antonio Fire Department started receiving calls in the early hours of the morning at around 4:15 a.m. local time from people who had been stranded on the frontage road of Loop 410 near Perrin Beitel Road. Fifteen vehicles were swept away in the area, the outlet noted, citing the fire department. The publication reported that two men and three women had died. Fire department spokesperson Joe Arrington told the AP that some of those rescued had said that they'd been swept off an interstate access road by "sudden fast rising water," adding that vehicles had been swept into a creek and carried downstream. Two people remain unaccounted for, per ABC News, citing authorities. Police Chief William McManus said some of the victims had been found deceased inside their cars, KSAT reported. Arrington added that 10 people had been rescued from trees and bushes around a mile from where they'd entered the water, while two people had been able to get to safety by themselves, per AP. Four people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Arrington said. Police Chief McManus told reporters that authorities had been responding to a "very, very tragic situation" amid the floods, per a clip shared by News 4 San Antonio on YouTube. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued flood warnings on X on Thursday and the fire department warned the public on Facebook that "many areas" were still "closed due to water on the road," stating that more storms were expected in the area and that a flash flood warning was in place. According to KSAT, five to eight inches of rain fell overnight on Wednesday, June 11, on the north side of the city in a short period of time. Black Bear Spotted Casually Roaming Behind Elderly Woman with Her Walker in Connecticut Suburb

A black bear was caught on camera casually strolling behind an elderly woman with her walker on a quiet street in West Hartford, Connecticut The woman hurried home with her caretaker after noticing the animal, the outlet reported There has been an increase in bear sightings in the state recently, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental ProtectionA black bear has been caught on camera casually strolling around a quiet neighborhood in Connecticut. On the morning of Wednesday, June 11, two black bears were spotted roaming near Elizabeth Park in West Hartford, local ABC-affiliated station WTNH reported. The station's anchor, Dennis House, captured footage of the bears on Asylum Street, with the outlet also sharing a clip on YouTube showing one bear walking not far from an elderly lady with her walker. The woman and her caretaker hurried home after spotting the animal, the outlet noted. Her son-in-law, Bob Mitchell, recalled to WTNH, "She was coming in, they were both white, trying to get through the door, and she goes 'There's a bear.' " "It doesn't matter to her, she's tough," he added about whether his mother-in-law's walks will continue. A woman's 13-year-old daughter was also greeted by two bears in West Hartford this week after getting off the school bus, per NBC Connecticut. It's not clear if it was the same two animals. Jeannette Dardenne told the outlet of her daughter, 'She got off and I got a phone call, she said in a really calm voice, 'Mom there is a bear in front of me,' and I said 'Okay,' and she kind of paused and said 'there are two bears in front of me.' " 'I think she was more like, 'It's beautiful', and I think it was also a lesson for her to recognize that there are wild animals here and you do have to take note,' Dardenne added, per the publication, insisting she'd "never once felt endangered from a bear." Per the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), "Black bears are increasingly common in Connecticut." "Reports of bear sightings, even in heavily populated residential areas, are on the rise. The Wildlife Division has also seen an increase in the number of reported conflicts with black bears," it added. The department stated, "The primary contributing factor to human-bear conflicts is the presence of easily-accessible food sources near homes and businesses." "Black bears that consume human-associated food (e.g., birdseed, trash, pet food) on a regular basis become habituated (comfortable near people) and food-conditioned (associate humans, houses and neighborhoods with food)," it added. The post continued, "As the bear population continues to grow and expand its range in Connecticut, and bears become increasingly food-conditioned, conflicts will continue to increase. Food-conditioned bears pose a greater risk to public safety and often cause more property damage to houses, cars, pets, and livestock." DEEP urged the public never to feed bears, to remove bird feeders and bird food from late March through November, to store garbage securely and to keep barbecue grills clean. The department also told people not to leave pet food outdoors, to supervise pets at all times when outside and to avoid placing certain foods in compost piles, as well as never attempting to approach a bear. DEEP is currently tracking an increase in bear sightings in Conn., with the bear population in the state estimated to be between 1,000 and 1,200, per NBC Connecticut. The department said that if a bear is left alone, it'll usually just make its way to a more natural habitat, the outlet noted. 'Right now, the entire state of Connecticut is bear country, we have bears in every town in Connecticut,' DEEP's Wildlife Division Director, Jenny Dickson, said, according to the publication. Person of Interest in Unsolved Murder Case Dies by Suicide While on Zoom Call with Authorities: Reports

A person of interest in an unsolved 2010 Oklahoma murder case shot himself in the head as he was questioned about the killing during a video call with authorities, according to reports Michael Wayne Thomas, 54, had insisted he had no involvement in the November 2010 death of Julie Mitchell, 34, per The Oklahoman "It was as shocking and horrific as you can imagine," Thomas' attorney, Ed Blau, told the outlet of his client's death on Saturday, May 31A person of interest in a 2010 Oklahoma murder case shot himself dead while being questioned about the killing on a Zoom call with authorities, according to reports. On Saturday, May 31, Michael Wayne Thomas, 54, died by suicide in a wooded area outside a casino in Kansas, per The Oklahoman, citing his attorney, Ed Blau. The Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) had been asking the man about Julie Mitchell, who was found beaten to death in her home in November 2010, as her 13-month-old baby laid untouched by her side, local ABC-affiliated station KOCO reported. The case remains unsolved. Blau had been representing Thomas since 2012, with the attorney telling KOCO 5 News that his client had previously been interviewed five or six times by police. Thomas had reportedly refused to be interviewed in person this time, instead opting for a video call. Blau said that his client — who had denied any involvement in 34-year-old Mitchell's murder — had been talking for around 45 minutes before his death, per The Oklahoman. "The phone landed right by his head so we got to hear him die, hear the death rattle," the attorney told the outlet on Tuesday, June 3. "It was as shocking and horrific as you can imagine." The OCPD's Master Sergeant, Gary Knight, said of Thomas, "He had agreed to be interviewed by detectives, but only on the stipulation that he wasn't going to be at the same location. He wanted to be in a manner like a Zoom call," per KOCO. "Beggars can't always be choosers, and this is somebody we wanted to talk to, we needed to talk to. There were questions we needed to have answered by him," Knight continued, telling the outlet that the questions remained unanswered around 40 minutes into the call. "He chose to pull out a pistol and shoot himself, ending his life," Knight said, per the station, adding, "I don't remember in my time here, 35 years here, someone killing themselves during an interview." According to The Oklahoman, Julie Mitchell was the wife of Teddy Mitchell, who had been accused in Oklahoma City federal court of reportedly hosting "illegal high-stakes poker games at his home and taking illegal bets on sporting events." Per an FBI Oklahoma City Division release, in January 2014, Teddy Mitchell was sentenced to serve 27 months in federal prison for running an illegal gambling operation. Mitchell had been traveling to California at the time of his wife's death, The Oklahoman noted. Julie Mitchell's body had been found in the master bedroom closet of their home and $30,000 was reportedly missing from a closet safe, The Oklahoman reported. Thomas' company checkbook had previously been found at the Mitchells' property after the murder, but he's always denied any involvement in the killing, the outlet stated. He told The Oklahoman in 2012, "I — 100% — did not. That's for sure.' Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Thomas, who previously sold insurance in an office in Edmond, reportedly told the FBI that he'd played poker at Teddy Mitchell's house, as well as placing bets with him, per the outlet, which cited a 2011 report. He also told authorities he'd let Teddy Mitchell become a partner in his business to help pay off his gambling debt, after providing him with vehicles and real estate insurance. "I really hope you solve the case," Thomas told OCPD's Knight, The Oklahoman reported. The officer added that Thomas was still considered a person of interest amid the unsolved investigation. The OCPD and Blau's law firm didn't immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.
