iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 16 Pro: 7 big upgrades expected
iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 16 Pro: 7 big upgrades expected By Ankita Garg Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 lineup around September 2025. Ahead of the launch, several leaks have surfaced, hinting at notable upgrades over the current iPhone 16 Pro models. Here are the details, which are based on leaks as well as rumours. Intro Photo generated using AI The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to pack the new A19 Pro chip, an upgrade over the A18 Pro seen in its predecessor. Chipset Photo : Apple Hub The iPhone 17 Pro is rumoured to feature a new vapor chamber cooling system for better heat management during heavy use. New cooling system? Interestingly, Apple may switch back to an aluminum frame for the iPhone 17 Pro, moving away from the premium Grade 5 titanium used in the 16 Pro. While this could help with weight reduction, it may be seen as a step down in terms of durability and finish. Design The iPhone 17 Pro is likely to get a major redesign at the back, with leaks hinting at a large rectangular camera module that spans almost edge-to-edge, a change from the square layout seen on the iPhone 16 Pro. A fresh look? Photo : Front Page Tech The iPhone 17 Pro could feature a 48MP telephoto sensor, replacing the 12MP periscope zoom camera used in the iPhone 16 Pro. However, optical zoom is said to be limited to 3.5x this time, slightly lower than the 5x zoom capability of the 16 Pro. Camera Photo : @Asherdipps Apple is expected to bump up the RAM to 12GB on the iPhone 17 Pro, up from 8GB on the iPhone 16 Pro. This should improve multitasking and boost performance during heavy tasks like gaming or video editing. Also Read: iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro review: Kings in waiting RAM

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 benchmark performance tipped
Yesterday we got word of what to expect in terms of benchmark performance from Apple's upcoming A19 Pro chip, that will power the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, from the Weibo account Digital Chat Station, a prolific source of mobile-related information. Today he's back with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 scores. Once again we're talking about Geekbench 6, and Qualcomm's next flagship SoC will allegedly achieve a single-core score over 4,000 and a multi-core score over 11,000. For reference, note that the Snapdragon 8 Elite usually manages around 3,100 and 9,800, respectively (exact numbers obviously depend on device). The A19 Pro should go to 4,000 single-core score too, but it will be outdone by the Elite 2 in multi-core, only managing around 10,000. Compared to its predecessor, the Elite 2 will improve the single-core score by about 20-30% and the multi-core score by about 10-15%. Not huge numbers, but nothing to scoff at either. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will be announced in late September, while the A19 Pro will launch in the upcoming iPhones during the same month, most likely - and September is also when MediaTek is apparently unveiling its next flagship SoC, incidentally. iPhone 17 series display and performance upgrade tipped: Here's what to expect
The Apple iPhone 17 series launch is just a few months away, creating curiosity about what the new generation model will look like. As we wait to get a glimpse at the new iPhones, rumours surrounding the smartphone have started to circulate rapidly, showcasing the design, feature upgrades, camera, and other crucial features. In a new leak, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are tipped to offer higher refresh rates. However, there is a catch. Well, reportedly, the standard iPhone 17 models may not feature the ProMotion technology as earlier expected. Additionally, the leak also gave us a glimpse of a performance upgrade by revealing the chipset. Therefore, if you have been planning to buy the iPhone 17 series, here's everything you need to know about what's coming. Also read: iPhone 18 Pro likely to ditch Dynamic Island for under-display Face ID- Details For the past few months, we have been hearing about the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air display upgrade with a 120Hz refresh rate. This upgrade was previously speculated due to the inclusion of ProMotion technology, but this may not be the case. While the base models are slated to get an upgraded display refresh rate, they may not support ProMotion displays. This display technology offers iPhone Pro models with an LTPO screen, offering a refresh rate of 120Hz to 1Hz. While standard iPhone 17 models may not come with ProMotion display, but they are slated to come with a 90Hz display. This will eventually make the smartphones run faster in comparison to standard iPhone 16 models. Therefore, we can speculate that the ProMotion display is still reserved for the iPhone 17 Pro models. Also read: iPhone 17 Air likely to come with optional accessories for lasting battery life- Details Alongside the display, the iPhone 17 series is also slated for a major performance upgrade. In a new leak, the Geekbench 6 performance scores of the A19 Pro chip were tipped. The scores showcased a better performance than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. Reportedly, the A19 Pro achieved more than 4000 points in Single core and more than 10000 points in Multicore, which is quite impressive. Furthermore, the smartphones are also expected to get 12 GB of RAM, a desired upgrade from 8GB of RAM, even for the Pro models. Therefore, this year's iPhone model could really come with worthy upgrades that may sway buyers to upgrade.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max Geekbench scores tipped
Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 series is due to be made official in September, and ahead of that today we have yet another rumor claiming that all four devices will have high refresh rate screens. That said, don't expect the vanilla iPhone 17's panel to be on par with those of the Pros - what's recently been rumored is that it won't be variable refresh rate since it won't get an LTPO OLED panel. Aside from this, the leaker who goes by Digital Chat Station on Weibo has also presented us with the performance figures for the upcoming A19 Pro chip which will be powering the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. It will allegedly get an over 4,000 single-core score and an over 10,000 multi-core score in Geekbench 6. For reference, note that the A18 Pro in the iPhone 16 Pro Max scored 3,490 and 8,606 in our testing, respectively (and it had better performance than the iPhone 16 Pro). So, with that in mind, we're looking at an improvement of 15% in single-core performance and 17% in multi-core performance. The A19 Pro will be made on TSMC's N3P process, expected to also be picked for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, which are both launching the same month as the A19 Pro, so the competition between these three will definitely be interesting to watch.
