Ahead of Google Assistant's death, Gemini finally inherits this much-loved feature

Ryan Haines / Android Authority TL;DR Gemini has finally received another long-awaited Google Assistant feature. The chatbot can now identify songs playing nearby using the Google app's Song Search feature. Previously, Gemini would recommend using third-party music recognition apps when asked to identify a song. Gemini lacked several Google Assistant features at launch, but steady updates from Google have brought it closer to being a comprehensive replacement for the legacy voice assistant. Now, with just a few months left until Gemini fully takes Google Assistant's place on most Android phones, the chatbot has gained yet another long-awaited capability. Google Assistant has long supported the ability to identify songs playing nearby. Until recently, Gemini did not support this feature and recommended third-party music recognition apps when asked to identify a song. However, 9to5Google reports that the chatbot has finally picked up the song search feature in recent weeks. When you ask Gemini to identify a song, it now opens a new screen with an animated sphere and listens as you play, sing, or hum a tune. Once it recognizes the song, it displays the results in the Google app rather than directly as a response within the Gemini chat. Due to this, the song name isn't saved in your chat history, and you'll have to check your Google Search history if you forget it. Although song search isn't baked right into Gemini and relies on the Google app, it's a welcome addition that gives Google Assistant loyalists another reason to switch over. YouTube Music's new lyrics sharing feature is finally reaching more users

Joe Hindy / Android Authority TL;DR YouTube Music's new lyrics sharing feature is now available widely on Android and iOS. You can use it to share up to five lines from a song in a custom image. The feature is live in YouTube Music version 8.24 and appears as a new 'Share' button in the Lyrics tab. YouTube Music has been working on a new feature to help users easily share song lyrics for quite a while. We first spotted references to the feature in a teardown this January, and YouTube Music briefly rolled it out to some users in April, giving us an early look. The feature is finally receiving a wider release, and you can try it out in the YouTube Music app for Android and iOS. The lyrics sharing feature is live in version 8.24 of YouTube Music (via 9to5Google). You can access it by opening the Lyrics tab and selecting the new 'Share' button. This opens a 'Select Lyrics' screen, where you can choose up to five lines to share. Once you're happy with your selection, tap the 'Next' button, and you'll see a preview of the lyrics card. The card features the song name and artist at the top alongside the album art, followed by your selected lyrics and the YouTube Music logo. The card's default background matches the dominant color from the album art, but you can switch to a different color by tapping on one of the ten options in the carousel below. You can then select the 'Share' button to save the card to your gallery or 'Share with other apps.' Spotify has had a similar lyrics sharing feature for a while, and it's great to see YouTube Music catching up and making it easier for users to share meaningful lyrics with friends and family. This Samsung Galaxy Watch may not get the latest One UI 8 Watch update

Samsung may soon end the software updates for its popular Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series. As reported by 9to5Google, Samsung has signalled that the 2021 launched Galaxy Watch 4 may soon stop receiving major software updates, as the company prepares to roll out One UI 8 Watch, based on Wear OS 6 , exclusively for newer models. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Launched in 2021, the Galaxy Watch 4 series was Samsung's first to run on Wear OS, marking a shift away from its Tizen-based wearables. While Samsung had previously committed to 'at least' three years of updates for its smartwatches, the Watch 4's last major update arrived in May 2025, and the company's latest move suggests that the device may not receive further feature upgrades. Although Samsung has not officially confirmed the end of support, the exclusion from the beta program and the approaching three-year support window strongly indicate that the Watch 4 is nearing the end of its update cycle. Security patches may still continue for a limited time, but if Samsung follows the precedent set with the Galaxy Watch 3, which stopped receiving updates in late 2023, the Watch 4 series could soon be phased out entirely. For comparison, the Galaxy Watch 3, released in 2020, received its last major update in late 2023, aligning with the three-year support window. The Galaxy Watch 4 last received an update in May 2025, which included security patches but no new features.

YouTube Music releases lyrics sharing feature on Android, iOS: How it works

Reportedly, YouTube Music users can now share up to five lines of lyrics with custom backgrounds directly from the app YouTube Music lyrics sharing feature New Delhi YouTube Music has reportedly started rolling out a new lyrics sharing feature on both Android and iOS platforms. According to a report by 9to5Google, this feature will allow users to highlight and share up to five lines of lyrics from a song in a visually styled format. The feature is available to both free and Premium members. The update is part of the latest version of YouTube Music and is designed to enhance user engagement and social sharing within the app. YouTube Music: How to share lyrics Open the 'Now Playing' screen while listening to a song. Navigate to the 'Lyrics' tab. Tap the new 'Share' floating action button located at the bottom of the screen. This will open the 'Select lyrics' interface, where you can highlight up to five lines from the song's lyrics. If you attempt to select more than five lines, your selection will reset. After making your selection, tap 'Next' to proceed to the customisation screen. Now, you can choose from ten different background styles. The first option automatically matches the background of the 'Now Playing' screen. After customising, users can choose to 'Save image' to their device or 'Share with other apps' directly – making it easy to post lyrics to social media platforms like Instagram Stories or WhatsApp. This new feature is rolling out widely, though not all users may see it immediately. If the 'Share' button is not visible yet, try force stopping the app and reopening it. The feature is part of YouTube Music version 8.24 and is gradually becoming available to a wider audience.

The Fitbit app just got a quiet Pixel Watch-inspired makeover

Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority TL;DR The Fitbit app has introduced a new Device Settings page for smartwatches and fitness trackers. The new layout mimics the one used in the Pixel Watch app. The device settings menu has also been updated Google has quietly updated the Fitbit app, introducing a redesigned Device Settings page for smartwatches and fitness trackers. The new look brings the Fitbit app closer to the design of the Pixel Watch companion app. The update was highlighted by 9to5Google over the weekend, but it seems to have rolled out recently, as users on Reddit have also noticed the change. While some folks (including us) welcome the modern layout of the Fitbit app, others aren't too thrilled about the sudden shift. One user who didn't know about the change even tried resetting their Fitbit Sense 2, disconnecting it, and reinstalling the app to get rid of the change. So, what's new? Well, the redesigned Device Settings page now starts with a large image of your connected device and its current watch face. Just below, you'll see important information like battery level, last sync time, and connection status. There's also a Sync now button placed in the top-right corner for easy access. New Fitbit app UI Old Fitbit app UI Below the image of the connected smartwatch or fitness tracker, you'll find cards for Watch faces, Apps, and Tiles. This layout mimics the one used in the Pixel Watch app, but tapping these cards still takes you to the same management options as before. The actual settings menu has also been updated. For example, on a Fitbit Sense 2, the settings now include: Notifications (calls, texts, app alerts) Device Preferences (wrist side, screen lock) Google Services (like Wallet and Maps) Fitbit Reminders & Alerts (move reminders, heart rate warnings) Tips & Support System (software updates, disconnect) Smart Features (like Alexa and on-wrist calling) This isn't the first big design update for Fitbit. Over the past year, Google has been constantly refreshing the app with new layouts and a cleaner UI reminiscent of other Google apps. And there are more changes on the horizon. Google will be remodelling the Fitbit app with its new Material 3 Expressive design. So while you might be surprised the next time you open the Fitbit app, know that it's part of Google's bigger plan to unify the look and feel of its apps.
