Iran Uses Trump's Own Words Against Him

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran sees the U.S. as already participating in Israel's attacks, and cited President Donald Trump's words. The U.S. has not yet joined in with Israel's strikes but is helping it to defend itself against Iran's retaliatory missile and drone attacks. Trump has given himself two weeks to decide if the U.S. should strike Iran, a window of time for Tehran to make a new nuclear deal. Araghchi told Iranian state media that "we consider the Americans to be aligned with and cooperating with the Zionist regime." "In these attacks that have been carried out against Iran, there are multiple signs indicating cooperation between U.S. forces present in the region and the Zionist regime," Araghchi said, originally in Farsi. "But more importantly than all of that are the tweets and interviews given by that country's president, where he explicitly uses the word 'we'-saying we did this, we carried out that action, this must happen, that must happen. "Well, that makes the case clear without needing further evidence. The presence and participation of the U.S. in this scene is evident." This is a breaking news story. Updates to follow. Russia Responds to Israel's Strikes on Iran: ‘Full-Scale War' Possible

An ally of Russian president Vladimir Putin has said that "a full-scale war" in the Middle East is possible following Israel's airstrikes on Iran. Israel launched a series of airstrikes across Iran early Friday, targeting critical nuclear facilities and military infrastructure in what appears to be one of the most significant assaults on Iranian soil since the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s. Iran's foreign minister said the strikes were "tantamount to a declaration of war" in a letter to the United Nations, Iranian state media reported. Konstantin Kosachev, vice-speaker of Russia's upper house of parliament, made clear that Russia would stand by its ally, Iran. "Israel's actions cannot be justified from a legal, political, military or moral point of view. The only hope, albeit illusory, of avoiding a full-scale war is a consolidated condemnation of this operation by the international community," he said, according to Russia's official TASS news agency. "We can and must hope for another demonstration of restraint from Iran. One must always hope for the best, but naturally there are limits to [Iran's] patience." He added that the "vicious circle of escalation is rapidly spiraling upward." "Netanyahu said that Israel struck 'at the heart of Iran's nuclear enrichment program.' In reality, there are many more strikes … And the most unfortunate thing is that this is not the end of the story. An Iranian response to Israel is inevitable, the vicious circle of escalation is rapidly spiraling upward," he said. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier said: "Russia is concerned about the developments and condemns this sharp escalation." At least two senior Iranian military commanders were killed in the attack, along with several key nuclear scientists, according to Iranian state media. The strikes mark a dramatic escalation in the long-simmering shadow conflict between the two regional adversaries and have reignited fears of a broader Middle East war. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed "severe punishment" for Israel in a televised address. Air-raid sirens were activated across Israeli cities as a precautionary measure amid heightened alert levels, underscoring the volatile aftermath of the cross-border confrontation. Donald Trump Accuses China of Violating Deal After He Tried to Be Nice

President Donald Trump has accused China of violating its preliminary trade agreement with the United States, and suggested he would take further action. On May 12, the U.S. and China agreed to a 90-day suspension of most tariffs on each other's imports. The deal was reached after Trump imposed huge tariffs on Chinese imports, before Beijing retaliated. Writing on Truth Social on Friday, Trump said: "Two weeks ago China was in grave economic danger! The very high Tariffs I set made it virtually impossible for China to TRADE into the United States marketplace which is, by far, number one in the World. We went, in effect, COLD TURKEY with China, and it was devastating for them. "Many factories closed and there was, to put it mildly, 'civil unrest.' I saw what was happening and didn't like it, for them, not for us. I made a FAST DEAL with China in order to save them from what I thought was going to be a very bad situation, and I didn't want to see that happen." He added: "Because of this deal, everything quickly stabilized and China got back to business as usual. Everybody was happy! That is the good news!!! The bad news is that China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US. So much for being Mr. NICE GUY!" This is a breaking story. More to follow. Who Is Elias Rodriguez? Suspect Named in Israeli Embassy Staff Killings

Authorities have identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy workers near a Jewish museum in Washington D.C. as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago. Israel's embassy in the U.S. named the victims as Yaron and Sarah. "No words can express the depth of our grief and horror at this devastating loss," it said. Video footage on social media showed a man chanting "free, free Palestine" being led away by officers inside what appeared to be the Washington D.C. Capital Jewish Museum. Washington Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith told reporters the suspect made the same chant while in custody. Smith said a man had been seen pacing outside the museum before the shooting. One eyewitness inside the museum told WAGA-TV a man ran into the building after the shooting and was initially offered help. "The security guard happened to let this guy in. I guess they were thinking and he was covered in rain, he was clearly in trauma, he was in shock, and some of the people in the event brought him water, they sat him down 'are you ok? Were you shot? What happened?' He's like 'somebody call the cops.' "So about 10 minutes later when the cops actually came in he said 'I did this,' he said 'sir I'm unarmed,' he put his hands up he grabbed a red keffiyeh out of his pocket and started the free Palestine chants. You know 'there's only one solution intifada revolution' and he was being dragged out of the building as he was yelling 'free Palestine'." This article will be updated. 2025 NEWSWEEK DIGITAL LLC.
