How to join the 2025 Hummingbird Habitat Challenge
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – One children's author is encouraging people to join in her 2025 Hummingbird Habitat Challenge.
Shannon Green, known professionally under the penname Sparkles, created this challenge. It aims to aid the migrating birds, whose spring migration season begins March 1.
People can create safe habits for the birds by hanging outside sugar-water feeders, planting flowers/trees and adding a backyard water feature, like a bird bath.
Some of the best flowers to plant for hummingbirds are Honeysuckle, Columbine, Morning Glory and Cardinal Flowers. It's advised to plant flowers that are trumpet-shaped with high nectar amounts.
Participating is simple, just submit a photo of what you've done to help the hummingbirds. The contest is open to all ages and entry photos must be submitted by Saturday, Nov. 15.
This will help hummingbirds on their migration journey of over 2,000 miles from North to South America.
People who join in this challenge will receive a free e-book of Green's. Click here for more information.
