Manchester City can potentially reach the knockout rounds of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with another victory in Group G play on Sunday (9 pm ET), when they take on UAE side Al Ain in Atlanta, Georgia. MORE — 2025 Club World Cup schedule, results, tables, how to watch live Advertisement Pep Guardiola's side got off to a winning start, 2-0 against Moroccan side Wydad AC on Wednesday, now they can secure their place in the round of 16 before playing Juventus for top spot in the group on Thursday. Phil Foden had a goal and an assist in the game, though everything didn't go perfectly to plan as Rico Lewis was sent off in the 88th minute for a tackle on Samuel Obeng. Guardiola called the referee's decision to show a straight red card, "unnecessary." MORE — How much prize money will each club get at Club World Cup? "His leg was little bit high, but he was on the grass," Guardiola said after the game. "Touches the ball with the speed that they go through, your leg has to be a little bit high and the other player down. It was not intentional and it was a red card versus Crystal Palace after the referee came and said it wasn't a red card. Rico never had intention to hurt anyone. A little bit unnecessary, the red card. The referee is the boss and had other intentions, VAR checked it and we have to accept the decision." Group G standings Advertisement Juventus — 3 points (+5 GD) Manchester City — 3 points (+2 GD) Wydad AC — 0 points (-2 GD) Al Ain — 0 points (-5 GD) How to watch Manchester City vs Al Ain live, stream link and start time Kick off time: 9 pm ET Sunday (June 22) Venue: Mercedes-Benz Stadium — Atlanta, Georgia TV Channel/Streaming: Watch live on DAZN, for free Manchester City team news, focus OUT: Mateo Kovacic (foot) Al Ain team news, focus Al Ain found themselves 4-0 down to Juventus at halftime and ended up losing their opening game 5-0 as Randal Kolo Muani and Francisco Conceicao each scored twice, along with Kenan Yildiz. 33-year-old Togolese striker Kodjo Laba, who led Al Ain this season with 20 goals in 21 games, had most of his side's best chances to score but two of his three shots were saved rather well. Manchester City vs Al Ain prediction In a sense, the Club World Cup is perfectly timed for Man City, who already had a handful of new players that need to get acclimated before next season, so the intensity (and quality) from them remains incredibly high. That spells bad news for Al Ain, and maybe everyone else in the competition. Manchester City 4-0 Al Ain.

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso provides Kylian Mbappe update ahead of Club World Cup opener
Real Madrid kick off their 2025 Club World Cup against Al Hilal on Wednesday, but they could be without the services of Kylian Mbappe for the match against the Saudi Pro League side. Mbappe has been suffering with illness in the lead-up to the match in Miami, and he did not train with his Real Madrid teammates on Tuesday. As such, he has been classed as doubtful to face Al Hilal. Advertisement But despite this, Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso still has hope of Mbappe being available. Speaking in his pre-match press conference (via Diario AS), he provided an update on the Frenchman, as well as Antonio Rudiger and Eduardo Camavinga. 'Kylian was feeling a little better this morning, but not enough. It's very hot and it was better that I didn't train. But we will wait until the last moment. Tomorrow morning we will decide. 'As for the rest… They are looking forward to it, but they are in different phases. Rudiger made a brutal effort this season and I don't know if he will be called up tomorrow, but he is progressing well and will be the first to return. The rest will need a little more time. Camavinga is also improving quickly, but he needs time.' Image via Diario AS Advertisement Alonso also gave his thoughts on how he sees Mbappe in the way that he wants his Real Madrid side to play. 'He is a dynamic striker, not positional, not in the box. The idea is not to have fixed players. Because Kylian is not a reference nine… but he is a number nine who scores a lot of goals.' In terms of the match against Al Hilal, Alonso made it clear what he expects of his side. 'We have to prepare for the game in the best possible way. They will be a tough opponent, without a doubt. But it's time to focus on ourselves. They haven't made their debut with Simone Inzaghi yet, so we don't know how they will play. '(We must show) hunger to win, to compete, to want to play well. We have to mix a lot of things, but that self-love, that feeling of team, that defending the badge… The team already has it, but we have to work on it. We must be a team.'

Chelsea 2-0 LAFC: Delap assists in debut, Blues kick off Club World Cup with win
Liam Delap picked up an assist on his Chelsea debut as the Blues began their 2025 Club World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over MLS side Los Angeles FC, in front of a scant crowd of 22,137 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (capacity: 71,000) on Monday. MORE — Club World Cup schedule & results Delap, who signed from Ipswich Town for $40 million this summer, came off the bench in the 64th minute and had his first goal involvement 15 minutes into his first game. The 22-year-old striker got on the end of Cole Palmer's through ball on the right flank, and lifted and curled a perfect cross into the path of Enzo Fernandez at the top of the six. The pass looked easy — it wasn't — but the finish certainly was, as Fernandez received the ball and poked it past Hugo Lloris without any defensive pressure. That goal only made it 2-0 in the 79th minute, but Chelsea had been ahead since the 34th. Pedro Neto timed his run in behind LAFC's defense to perfection and Nicolas Jackson got the ball away just in time. Neto raced into the penalty area, cut inside and beat Lloris at his near post. The victory puts Chelsea top of Group D before Flamengo (Brazil) and ES Tunis (Tunisia) play later on Monday. Chelsea will be back in action against Flamengo on Friday (2 pm ET), and LAFC will face ES Tunis at 6 pm ET. Their focus now switches to the Club World Cup, where they will be among the favorites to win it all. Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez will all play starring roles, while new signing Liam Delap aims to hit the ground running and grab the starting No. 9 spot. LAFC beat Club America in a play-off to qualify for this tournament after Club Leon were barred from entering the competition due to ownership rules with their ownership group also owning Pachuca. Steve Cherundolo's LAFC are extremely dangerous on the counter attack and have some very exciting young players, as well as a sprinkling of veterans in Olivier Giroud, Hugo Lloris and Ryan Hollingshead. LAFC are flying the MLS flag in this competition along with the Seattle Sounders and Inter Miami, and American soccer fans hope the trio can cause plenty of upsets along the way against club giants from across the globe. Chelsea team news, focus New Chelsea signings Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr could all make their debuts, as Enzo Maresca is going to go all out to win this competition. Most of Chelsea's players have only just linked up with the squad after international duty, so it will be intriguing to see who is given a bit of a break at the start of the tournament. OUT: Wesley Fofana (hamstring), Mykhailo Mudryk (suspended) LAFC team news, focus Speaking ahead of the match, LAFC's general manager John Thorrington was excited about the challenge but realistic about the chances of the MLS side causing a huge upset: 'I think it is right to view us as underdogs... What I hope that Chelsea and Flamengo and Tunis and all these teams – I hope they walk off the field with a great level of respect as to the quality of our players and the intensity and the commitment of our players. And if we walk off the pitch every game with that, we will be proud and I trust that the results will fall our way.' Olivier Giroud will feature up top LAFC against his former club, while goalkeeper Hugo Lloris knows Chelsea extremely well from his decade at their rivals Spurs. Watch out for Denis Bouanga, Yaw Yeboah and Timothy Tillman. Chelsea vs LAFC prediction This feels like it's going to be a lot closer than most people think but Chelsea's quality, probably off the bench, will make the difference in the end. Chelsea 2-1 LAFC.
