SCOTUS' trans ruling: Letters to the Editor — June 23, 2025

The Issue: The Supreme Court upholding Tennessee's ban on gender transition surgery for minors. On the day of the Supreme Court's decision upholding the Tennessee ban on transitions for minors, the mainstream media (especially PBS) was quick to cry out what a 'setback' this ruling was for 'trans' rights ('Trans sense,' June 19). The agonies brought on by impulsive decisions made by addled youngsters were not discussed. Advertisement This ruling is a victory, not a 'setback,' for biological common sense. Twenty seven states now have similar bans as Tennessee. One might ask why the remaining 23 states are so far behind the curve toward sanity? Anthony Parks Advertisement Garden City The only disappointing thing about the SCOTUS gender decision is that it wasn't unanimous. It means that six Justices have common sense, and three don't. Nevertheless, a generation of young boys and girls have been saved from the 'gender-affirming' cultists. By the way, when did the far left change its mind on childhood genital mutilation? It seems like only yesterday the left was firmly against the practice for young girls in certain African countries. Advertisement Dennis Rhodes Naples, Fla. Since minors are considered to be too young to vote or serve in the military, then they are also too young to make these kinds of life-changing decisions. By the time they become adults, they may have changed their minds about all of these choices. Advertisement Ray Starman Albany Thanks to the Supreme Court for ruling against this idiotic ideology of 'gender affirmation.' It reaffirms what scripture tells us: Namely that the creator made two sexes, male and female, and no one should desecrate this. Frank Brady Yonkers The high court ruling to allow banning transgender care for minors is simply common sense. Sometimes kids go through phases. And life-changing decisions for minors could lead to regret and emotional and psychological struggles in later years. Advertisement My only hope is that other states will join the ban. Kids just need to be kids. They should not be allowed to make adult decisions. The legal age to drink is 21. The age to vote is 18 and to drive is 16. Waiting until the age of 18 for trans treatment is not asking too much. In fact, it's smart. Joann Lee Frank Clearwater, Fla. Advertisement The Issue: City Hall's plan to spend $929.1 million to house the homeless and migrants in hotels. Mayor Adams needs to go ('A Fetid $1B Hotel Deal,' Editorial, June 20). He cannot justify spending nearly $1 billion for this cause. How many of the 86,000 who need housing are actually homeless citizens, the ones he should have been taking care of from Day 1? That money could have been divided for other vital services that need to be addressed, such as cleaner streets, an overhaul of the Administration for Children's Services, more cops — because we really don't need more commuters to be stabbed during a Grand Central morning rush hour — or a number of other issues needing urgent attention and upgrades. Advertisement Susan Cienfuegos New Rochelle I really think that New York taxpayers and citizens have had enough of Eric Adams' nonsense. Along with the corruption allegations, he has continued to destroy New Yorkers' quality of life. Now he's planning to spend nearly $1 billion in taxpayer money on shelters for immigrants and homeless. Advertisement When is this gonna stop? Enough already, Adams. First class passenger sparks security scare after asking a flight attendant this bizarre question: ‘Unbelievable'

There are some things that are off-limits even to first class fliers. On the Delta Reddit page, a traveler recently revealed that a simple question asked by a passenger in seat 1B sparked a security scare on board their red-eye flight from Los Angeles to Fort Lauderdale. As cabin service began, the man allegedly pulled aside one of the flight attendants and asked about an apparent new procedure. A first-class passenger asked a flight attendant a question that was met with skepticism. DC Studio – 'Hey, totally random question, but on my last couple flights I noticed the [flight attendants] did not block access to the galley when the pilot used the lavatory. Is this a new procedure for you guys?' the person asked, according to the Redditor who was sitting in the nearby seat. That flight attendant did not answer the question and rather said that it was 'news' to them, then proceeded to report the conversation to the cabin manager. According to the Reddit user, the cabin manager approached the passenger and informed them that they could not discuss 'access procedures for the flight deck' for security purposes. The passenger responded, 'Oh, excuse me, I didn't realize I wasn't able to ask questions,' to which the cabin manager reportedly replied, 'I can answer most questions, but I cannot answer questions related to the security of the aircraft.' When the passenger inquired why the flight attendant couldn't answer a security-related question, the cabin manager allegedly said, 'Seriously? You know why. Don't you remember 9/11? We cannot talk about that stuff. So thank you for letting us know what you observed on your prior flights.' Later on, when the pilot used the lavatory, the poster noted that two of the flight attendants from the rear were called up to block the galley, and 'one of them stared at 1B the entire time.' 'Unbelievable this guy can't understand why it might be suspicious for the passenger seated in one of the two closest possible seats to the flight deck door to ask about galley obstructions procedures,' the original poster wrote. Flight attendants are trained to be hyper-aware of any behavior that might be deemed suspicious and could be a potential threat to cause harm to the pilot, fellow passengers or the plane.

McGrath: Are we punishing Joe McDonagh Cup finalists?

Joe McDonagh Cup finalists Kildare and Laois will be back in action this weekend, but in truth, anything other than wins for Dublin, and in particular Tipperary, would be seen as major shocks. The Lilywhites will enter the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final at home to the Dubs with huge momentum behind them. Having already secured 1B hurling earlier this year, Brian Dowling's men will compete in the Leinster Championship in 2026 after a maiden success in the McDonagh Cup on Sunday. Laois, on the other hand, will have to pick themselves up after the 10-point defeat at Croke Park, where the challenge will be significantly tougher against a rejuvenated Tipperary. The preliminary quarter-finals tend to be one-sided games, with Laois' victory over Dublin in 2019 the only time a Joe McDonagh side has prevailed against stiffer opposition. Laois' 12-point defeat to Wexford at the same stage last year could be seen a success in the context that the average losing margin for the Joe McDonagh Cup finalists before that was just shy of 22 points. Earlier this year, Leinster Council chairman Derek Kent proposed scrapping the All-Ireland hurling preliminary quarter-finals to accommodate potential provincial final replays, insisting the preliminaries offer "no promotion of hurling". Speaking on the RTÉ GAA podcast, former Tipperary hurler Shane McGrath outlined his own concerns over the fixtures, especially the short turnaround from the McDonagh Cup final. "Take the All-Ireland hurling final on the third week of July," he said. "Imagine after that match, you say to everyone, 'by the way, you won this, but to play in this competition you have to play next Saturday'. "Are we nearly punishing them for winning the thing by playing seven days later." Former hurling referee Barry Kelly praised Kildare and Brian Dowling for being the hurling and managerial story of the year respectively, but feels the preliminaries offer little hope for the McDonagh sides. "The average defeat in those games is 17 points," he said. "No-one would be surprised if Tippeary beat Laois by 17 points. Let's be honest, 17 points would be regarded by Laois as an achievement next weekend." A Passenger in Seat 1B Asked a Flight Attendant 1 Question. Then He Was Immediately Reported to a Supervisor

A Reddit user wrote about a recent Delta redeye flight where the passenger sitting in front of them asked a flight attendant an inappropriate question The passenger sitting in first class had a talk with the cabin manager after being reported The flight crew kept a close eye on the passenger for the duration of the flight, according to the posterA man's question got him reported to a head flight attendant, according to a fellow passenger. A first-class Delta passenger flying on a redeye from Maui to Fort Lauderdale recounted a recent flight experience on Reddit, titling the post, 'In today's edition of Things NOT to ask a flight attendant…' The passenger wrote that just as cabin service was about to begin, the flyer sitting directly in front of them, in 1B, pulled one of the flight attendants aside to ask a question. 'Hey totally random question, but on my last couple flights I noticed the FAs did not block access to the galley when the pilot used the lavatory,' the 1B passenger said, according to the poster, before asking, 'Is this a new procedure for you guys?' The flight attendant allegedly responded, 'Hmm that's news to me,' before proceeding to inform the cabin manager. The poster claims the cabin manager approached the passenger sitting in 1B to ask him about his inquiry. The passenger responded that he 'was just curious' before laughing it off. The cabin manager told the passenger that information was not something he was allowed to discuss with him, before the passenger in 1B responded with 'Oh excuse me, I didn't realize I wasn't able to ask questions.' The cabin manager proceeded to inform the passenger that he is not allowed to 'answer questions related to the security of the aircraft,' according to the poster. The passenger, seemingly not understanding, asked for the reason behind the procedure. 'Seriously? You know why. Don't you remember 9/11?' the poster claims the head flight attendant said before continuing. 'We cannot talk about that stuff. So thank you for letting us know what you observed on your prior flights.' The scheduled flight went on as usual until the pilot got up to use the lavatory during the duration of the flight. Two flight attendants were called to the front of the aircraft to 'block the galley and one of them stared at 1B the entire time 😂' the Reddit user wrote. 'Unbelievable this guy can't understand why it might be suspicious for the passenger seated in one of the two closest possible seats to the flight deck door to ask about galley obstructions procedures,' the passenger seated behind 1B wrote. PEOPLE reached out to Delta for comment on the incident, but did not immediately hear back. Forum users offered their reactions to the situation in the comments. 'How much do you want to bet the feds now have an eye out for that passenger?' one user asked in the comments. One commenter confessed something similar happened to them when they were a teenager working at a fast food chain. 'I did this once although I'm not sure if I'm on the spectrum. At my first job in fast food, I asked the manager 'what time the money truck comes to pick up all the money.' I was like 16 and genuinely curious and she just started asking why really defensively 😭' Read the original article on People
