iPhone 17 lineup expected in September; Apple faces pressure to make AI count
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025, sticking to its annual upgrade cycle. According to reports and supply chain leaks, the Tim Cook-led company is adding a fourth model to its flagship smartphone series this year. New model incoming In addition to the base iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, Apple is tipped to introduce a new variant called iPhone 17 Air—a thinner (around 5.5 mm) and lighter model, possibly with a single rear camera. This could serve as Apple's answer to a segment of users looking for portability over performance. Specs and display All iPhone 17 models, including the Air , are expected to feature 120Hz ProMotion displays. The screen sizes may range from 6.3 inches for the base model to 6.9 inches for the Pro Max. The Air is rumoured to come with a 6.6-inch display. Apple may expand Always-On Display functionality across the lineup, though this is not confirmed. While the iPhone 15 and 16 Pro models used titanium frames, the company may revert to aluminium for the iPhone 17 series—except for the Air, which could feature a titanium-aluminium hybrid. The camera layout is reportedly getting a makeover. Instead of the squircle or vertical pill seen in recent models, the Pro variants may adopt a rectangular bar across the back, while the Air could feature a horizontal pill-shaped module. The iPhone 17 Pro Max might house a smaller Dynamic Island, thanks to new Face ID tech. With expectations mounting, the iPhone 17 launch could be a critical moment for Apple to prove it's not falling behind in the AI era.

Alleged cases of iPhone 17 series leaked online: Here's what to expect from the upcoming iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and new iPhone 17 Air
Apple iPhone 17 series is expected to launch in September 2025. Ahead of the official release, leaks have revealed new details about the upcoming models, including possible design changes and features. Tipster Majin Bu recently posted images of the alleged cases for the iPhone 17 lineup — including the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Air, and 17 Pro Max — on X (formerly Twitter). According to the post, the cases are already available for pre-order via direct messages, even though the phone launch is still about four months away. 'iPhone 17 series cases available in various styles, to pre-order send me a message,' the post reads. Apple iPhone 17 series cases leaked The leaked cases have a transparent back with white MagSafe detailing, similar to Apple's current 'Clear Case with MagSafe' for existing iPhone models. The leaked case images suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will continue to have large camera modules. The iPhone 17 case has the smallest camera cutout, only slightly bigger than the iPhone 16. The case for the iPhone 17 Air , which is rumored to be a slimmer model, shows a cutout that stretches across the back of the phone, similar to Pixel phones but placed higher up. Notably, these details align with previous leaks about the upcoming models. As per previous leaks, Apple may use a new "camera bar" design on the iPhone 17 Air, Pro, and Pro Max. Bloomberg's Mark has said that the iPhone 17 Pro will have a single-color back. The camera section will match the rest of the phone. Reports also suggest that iPhone 17 Pro Max may come with a two-tone back, with the camera area in a different color from the rest of the phone. Apple iPhone 17 series expected features Apple is rumoured to introduce the 120Hz ProMotion display for the first time on the standard iPhone 17 model. This refresh rate was previously only available on the Pro versions. The new display is expected to use LTPO OLED panels from Samsung, which are more power-efficient. There is also speculation that this change could allow for an always-on display, although that has not been confirmed. One of the major changes expected with the iPhone 17 series is that all models may offer a 24MP selfie camera, a major upgrade over the 12MP sensors found in the iPhone 16 series. Further, the Pro models may feature three 48MP sensors on the rear, again a first for iPhones. iPhone 17 Air, on the other hand, may come with a single 48MP camera, reports say. For Pro models, the company is likely to opt for a horizontal camera bar to house the three sensors. Other likely features on iPhone 17 series are A19 Bionic chipset, iOS 19, and upgraded Wi-Fi. Apple may discontinue Plus model with iPhone 17 series Online rumours indicate that Apple may discontinue the "Plus" variant from the iPhone 17 series. The decision is believed to be based on lower-than-expected demand for the model. It may be replaced with the slimmer model of the iPhone 17 series. AI Masterclass for Students. iPhone 17 design totally leaks by case makers, here is everything we know about iPhones of 2025
With the dust settled on the Galaxy S25 Edge launch, and considering the next pitstop in July — where the Galaxy Z series phones are unveiled — it's pretty safe to say that the next major launch in the smartphone world will be the iPhone 17 series. Apple's next-generation devices are expected to be unveiled in September, and while we are still a few months away, the leaks and rumours have already given us a fair idea of what to expect. As if the design leaks over the past few months weren't enough, we now also have case leaks — which are being claimed to be the actual cases for all the upcoming iPhone 17 to tipster Majin Bu, via a post on X (formerly Twitter), the iPhone 17 cases for all models — i.e. the 17 Pro Max, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and the standard 17 — have leaked in all their glory. The tipster even claims that you can pre-order the cases by sending them a message, which is quite an interesting thing to ask, considering we are still about four months away from the expected launch, and anything can change in between. That said, the tipster does have a pretty good track record when it comes to Apple leaks, so there's a fair chance we're looking at the real at the cases, the leak also confirms what to expect from the design of the next-generation iPhone 17 models. We have already seen a bunch of iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max leaks, and the cases confirm both phones' massive camera bumps. Even the iPhone 17 Air — which has been heavily featured in the rumour mill — has a case that confirms it may come with a bar-like camera island, akin to the Pixel phones. The iPhone 17 case is the most interesting of the bunch, and not for the right reasons — because its case also suggests that the phone may very well retain the look of the iPhone 16, with a vertical dual-camera design. However, the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro case sizes seem quite similar — does this mean the iPhone 17 may also feature similar dimensions as the 17 Pro? Maybe a similar 6.3-inch screen size, thus ditching the 6.1-inch screen from the iPhone 16?advertisement As always, until anything's official, we'd suggest taking every leak and rumour with a healthy grain of what we know, the iPhone 17 series is said to be the biggest upgrade to iPhones in several years. The square camera island design of the Pro models is finally expected to be replaced by a rectangular one in the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Air is said to replace the Plus models — much like how the Plus models replaced the Mini line with the launch of the iPhone 14 series. Will the move pay off? Guess we'll get to know by the end of the the biggest talking point is the presence of a ProMotion 120Hz display. It is heavily rumoured that all iPhone 17 models — including the standard 17 and 17 Air — will feature a 120Hz refresh rate screen. It's been a long time coming. If it does finally materialise, will the standard models also get the Always-On Display feature? Only time will mentioned above, the iPhone 17 series is expected to launch in September later this year. In terms of price — if everything goes well and if the tariff war between the US and China is settled in some form by then — expect Apple to price the 17 series similar to the 16 series, i.e. $799, $899, $999, and $1,199 for the 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, respectively. Similarly, in India, expect these prices to be Rs 79,900, Rs 89,900, Rs 1,19,900, and Rs 1,34,900, respectively, for the 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro course, nothing has been officially confirmed by Apple. Stay tuned to India Today Tech for all the latest on the iPhone 17 series.
