iPhone 17 lineup expected in September; Apple faces pressure to make AI count

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025, sticking to its annual upgrade cycle. According to reports and supply chain leaks, the Tim Cook-led company is adding a fourth model to its flagship smartphone series this year. New model incoming In addition to the base iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, Apple is tipped to introduce a new variant called iPhone 17 Air—a thinner (around 5.5 mm) and lighter model, possibly with a single rear camera. This could serve as Apple's answer to a segment of users looking for portability over performance. Specs and display All iPhone 17 models, including the Air , are expected to feature 120Hz ProMotion displays. The screen sizes may range from 6.3 inches for the base model to 6.9 inches for the Pro Max. The Air is rumoured to come with a 6.6-inch display. Apple may expand Always-On Display functionality across the lineup, though this is not confirmed. While the iPhone 15 and 16 Pro models used titanium frames, the company may revert to aluminium for the iPhone 17 series—except for the Air, which could feature a titanium-aluminium hybrid. The camera layout is reportedly getting a makeover. Instead of the squircle or vertical pill seen in recent models, the Pro variants may adopt a rectangular bar across the back, while the Air could feature a horizontal pill-shaped module. The iPhone 17 Pro Max might house a smaller Dynamic Island, thanks to new Face ID tech. Former chief designer Jony Ive , who played a key role in shaping Apple's product DNA, recently announced a $6.4 billion deal with OpenAI to develop new AI-native hardware, through his startup io. Apple, which pioneered on-device AI with features like Face ID, Siri, and computational photography, is now under pressure as rivals like Google and Microsoft push ahead with generative AI and large language models. Its 'Apple Intelligence' suite—announced for iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and iPadOS 18—has had a slow rollout, with several key features still pending. With expectations mounting, the iPhone 17 launch could be a critical moment for Apple to prove it's not falling behind in the AI era.

iPhone 17 design totally leaks by case makers, here is everything we know about iPhones of 2025

With the dust settled on the Galaxy S25 Edge launch, and considering the next pitstop in July — where the Galaxy Z series phones are unveiled — it's pretty safe to say that the next major launch in the smartphone world will be the iPhone 17 series. Apple's next-generation devices are expected to be unveiled in September, and while we are still a few months away, the leaks and rumours have already given us a fair idea of what to expect. As if the design leaks over the past few months weren't enough, we now also have case leaks — which are being claimed to be the actual cases for all the upcoming iPhone 17 to tipster Majin Bu, via a post on X (formerly Twitter), the iPhone 17 cases for all models — i.e. the 17 Pro Max, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and the standard 17 — have leaked in all their glory. The tipster even claims that you can pre-order the cases by sending them a message, which is quite an interesting thing to ask, considering we are still about four months away from the expected launch, and anything can change in between. That said, the tipster does have a pretty good track record when it comes to Apple leaks, so there's a fair chance we're looking at the real at the cases, the leak also confirms what to expect from the design of the next-generation iPhone 17 models. We have already seen a bunch of iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max leaks, and the cases confirm both phones' massive camera bumps. Even the iPhone 17 Air — which has been heavily featured in the rumour mill — has a case that confirms it may come with a bar-like camera island, akin to the Pixel phones. The iPhone 17 case is the most interesting of the bunch, and not for the right reasons — because its case also suggests that the phone may very well retain the look of the iPhone 16, with a vertical dual-camera design. However, the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro case sizes seem quite similar — does this mean the iPhone 17 may also feature similar dimensions as the 17 Pro? Maybe a similar 6.3-inch screen size, thus ditching the 6.1-inch screen from the iPhone 16?advertisement As always, until anything's official, we'd suggest taking every leak and rumour with a healthy grain of what we know, the iPhone 17 series is said to be the biggest upgrade to iPhones in several years. The square camera island design of the Pro models is finally expected to be replaced by a rectangular one in the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Air is said to replace the Plus models — much like how the Plus models replaced the Mini line with the launch of the iPhone 14 series. Will the move pay off? Guess we'll get to know by the end of the the biggest talking point is the presence of a ProMotion 120Hz display. It is heavily rumoured that all iPhone 17 models — including the standard 17 and 17 Air — will feature a 120Hz refresh rate screen. It's been a long time coming. If it does finally materialise, will the standard models also get the Always-On Display feature? Only time will mentioned above, the iPhone 17 series is expected to launch in September later this year. In terms of price — if everything goes well and if the tariff war between the US and China is settled in some form by then — expect Apple to price the 17 series similar to the 16 series, i.e. $799, $899, $999, and $1,199 for the 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, respectively. Similarly, in India, expect these prices to be Rs 79,900, Rs 89,900, Rs 1,19,900, and Rs 1,34,900, respectively, for the 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro course, nothing has been officially confirmed by Apple. Stay tuned to India Today Tech for all the latest on the iPhone 17 series.

iPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 16 Pro: A new video highlights all design changes

Apple is currently working on the upcoming iPhone 17 series. While everyone is excited about the rumoured iPhone 17 Air, the iPhone 17 Pro is also anticipated to be promising. According to previous reports, the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to bring several upgrades as compared to the iPhone 16 Pro. A recent video shows exactly what these changes are, especially the design part. To be clear, these details are only based on rumours and leaks. Apple has not confirmed any specs or features so far. advertisementiPhone 17 Pro vs iPhone 16 Pro: Video reveals design changes A newly surfaced video on X, shared by tipster Majin Bu, offers a closer look at what's believed to be a dummy unit of the forthcoming iPhone 17 Pro, shedding light on one of its most noticeable design changes — a redesigned camera module. Unlike the iPhone 16 Pro, which houses its camera system in the top-left corner, the iPhone 17 Pro's module now spans horizontally across the rear of the device. This shift in design has prompted comparisons to Google's Pixel series, though many observers feel Apple's take lacks the refinement of its rival. The layout features an unusual amount of empty space between the camera lenses, flash, sensors, and microphone — a detail that's raised eyebrows. Speculation suggests Apple may have plans to introduce a dedicated accessory to complement the new camera island, possibly a purpose-built cover. iPhone 16 Pro (left) vs iPhone 17 Pro (right) (Credit: X/@MajinBu) advertisement Apart from this prominent change, the rest of the iPhone 17 Pro's design remains largely familiar. The Action Button, volume keys, power switch, and Camera Control button all occupy their usual positions. Additionally, reports indicate that the display size will remain consistent with that of the iPhone 16 Pro, reinforcing the idea that this year's upgrade will focus more on camera hardware than an overhaul of the phone's overall 17 Pro vs iPhone 16 Pro Other than the design, Apple is speculated to bring back the aluminium frame. Among the most notable is a potential shift in materials — after two generations of titanium frames with the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro, Apple is now rumoured to adopt aluminium for the iPhone 17 Pro. This marks a return to a material last used in a Pro iPhone prior to the stainless-steel iPhone X, signalling a lighter, possibly more cost-efficient technology is expected to see the most dramatic leap. Leaks suggest the front-facing camera across all iPhone 17 models could receive a major upgrade to a 24-megapixel sensor — a substantial improvement over the 12-megapixel unit in the current Pro models. This would lead to clearer selfies and enhanced video clarity, aligning with Apple's growing focus on content creation and social media on the rear, the iPhone 17 Pro Max might break new ground by becoming the first iPhone to feature a trio of 48-megapixel lenses — including a main sensor, an ultra-wide, and a tetraprism periscope telephoto lens. The Pro variants may also be equipped with a mechanical aperture, allowing users to manually control how much light enters the camera for better results in different lighting Apple is expected to introduce its next-generation A19 Pro chip, built on a refined 3nm process. While not yet advancing to the upcoming 2nm standard, the A19 Pro should deliver incremental improvements in speed and power efficiency compared to the A18 Pro used in the iPhone 16 upgrades are also on the cards. Reports indicate that the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will come with 12GB of RAM — a bump up from the 8GB found in previous Pro devices. This should translate into better multitasking capabilities and smoother operation overall. However, the standard iPhone 17 and the rumoured iPhone 17 Air are expected to retain 8GB of performance is another area receiving attention. The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to pack a larger battery, and Apple may build on the improvements introduced with the iPhone 16 series by making battery replacements simpler. The same removable adhesive strips that allowed easier battery servicing on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus may also feature here, offering better repairability for despite these advancements, charging speeds are unlikely to change. The iPhone 17 Pro is still anticipated to support a maximum of 35W for wired charging, which means users shouldn't expect any major enhancements in how quickly the device powers up.

iPhone 17 Pro camera bar design may come with interesting customisation option

With the iPhone 17 series, Apple may bring new accessories into town. The rumour has it that the iPhone 17 Pro models are opting for a new design language, which includes a wider camera island on the back panel. While nothing is confirmed so far, the renders and leaks indicate that the iPhone 17 Pro models will carry a similar triangular camera arrangement, but this time on a big rectangular island. Now, if this is true, the recent leak suggests that this camera panel will also get original covers. advertisementiPhone 17 Pro: Camera covers According to a leak from Majin Bu on X (formerly Twitter), some iPhone accessory makers are already working on specially designed camera covers for the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro, which is rumoured to feature a prominent horizontal camera bar. While users have long relied on standard lens protectors, these new covers appear to go a step further — offering both protection and a chance for personal expression. It'll be interesting to see the variety of styles people come up with, as this opens the door to more creative customisation options. With most iPhone 17 Pro cases expected to feature a wide cutout around the camera bar, these covers are likely to fit quite nicely and appeal to those keen on adding a unique flair to their device while keeping it 17 Pro: Design, camera, chipset and moreadvertisement Design: Other than the camera panel, the iPhone 17 Pro is also expected to bring a new upgrade to its body-type. Apple made the shift to titanium for the iPhone 15 Pro line-up and retained it with the iPhone 16 Pro, but it seems the iPhone 17 Pro might be heading in a new direction. According to recent reports, the Pro models could adopt an aluminium frame — a material Apple hasn't used on its premium phones since before the stainless steel era introduced with the iPhone the rear of the device may also feature a fresh dual-material design, with aluminium covering the top portion and glass making up the bottom half. This layout would continue to support wireless charging, while potentially offering greater durability and reducing the likelihood of the phone cracking if The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to see significant improvements to its camera system, if the latest rumours are to be believed. Among the anticipated upgrades is a new 48-megapixel telephoto lens, set to replace the current 12-megapixel version — promising much sharper zoom capabilities. Additionally, Apple may introduce a variable aperture on the wide lens, giving users greater control over light intake and depth-of-field, ideal for more creative the front, the selfie camera could also get a notable boost, jumping from 12-megapixel to 24-megapixel — a move that would significantly enhance image clarity for self-portraits and video to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple's focus this year is on elevating the Pro camera experience to a level where users — particularly content creators and videographers — could comfortably rely on the iPhone alone for high-end video recording, eliminating the need for a dedicated professional Under the hood, the iPhone 17 Pro is likely to be powered by Apple's forthcoming A19 Pro chip, manufactured using the cutting-edge 3nm (N3P) process. This next-gen silicon is expected to offer a notable leap in both performance and energy efficiency, making it the fastest chip ever in an iPhone. Users can anticipate snappier processing, more advanced AI features, and smoother experiences across demanding tasks such as gaming, photography, and machine significant enhancement on the cards is a bump in RAM — from 8GB in the iPhone 16 Pro to 12GB. This increase should translate into improved multitasking capabilities and more fluid performance, particularly when handling intensive The iPhone 17 Pro is anticipated to offer better battery life, largely due to a modest increase in battery capacity. Apple is also expected to stick with the more repair-friendly approach introduced with recent models, continuing the use of pull tabs that make battery replacement easier — similar to the system used in the iPhone 16 and 16 said, don't count on any gains when it comes to charging speed. The iPhone 17 Pro is likely to retain the existing 35W wired charging standard. But, so far, these are just rumours and leaks. The exact details will be revealed once Apple decides to announce the upcoming iPhone 17 series. It could be WWDC 2025 in June. Stay tuned for more information.

Apple Plans Foldable iPhone and Major Redesign for 2027, Bloomberg Reports

Apple (AAPL, Financials) is preparing a significant redesign of its iPhone lineup in 2027, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the products initial release in 2007, according to a report from Bloomberg. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 3 Warning Signs with NVDA. Apple's first mobile iPhone and an updated iPhone 19 Pro that uses more glass are likely to be part of the update. According to Bloomberg, the iPhone 19 Pro may have a structure that relies more on glass, possibly based on earlier ideas like curved screens or a full-glass body. However, specific design details have not been released yet. The all-glass form has been talked about inside Apple for a while. Former design head Jony Ive is said to have come up with the idea of an all-glass iPhone as early as 2017. It was said that the suggested gadget would be a simple, uniform item that would look like a single pane of glass. Bloomberg said that the future iPhone 17 Pro, which is set to come out in 2025, will not have a two-tone back like some reports said it would. Instead, the model will stay the same color as the present iPhone 16 Pro line. People also think that the new 17 Pro will have a modified camera lens that covers the whole back of the device. Apple has not yet confirmed any of the features that are being talked about. The news from Bloomberg says that the company is working on a long-term plan that could change the look and structure of the iPhone as materials and user interface styles change.
