Gold falls Rs 1,200, silver up by Rs 100

New Delhi: Gold prices declined by Rs1,200 to Rs1,00,170 per 10 grams in the national capital on Tuesday due to continuous selling by jewellers and stockists in line with weak global trends, according to the All India Sarafa precious metal of 99.9 per cent purity had closed at Rs1,01,370 per 10 grams in the previous market session. Gold of 99.5 per cent purity dipped below the Rs1 lakh mark, by falling Rs1,100 to Rs99,450 per 10 grams. It had settled at Rs1,00,550 per 10 grams on Monday. "Gold corrected further as traders reevaluated the likelihood of a full-scale regional war between Israel and Iran. This shift follows reports suggesting that Iran is actively pursuing a diplomatic resolution to its escalating conflict with Israel. "The potential for a fragile truce has fostered a bearish sentiment among gold traders," Saumil Gandhi, Senior Analyst - Commodities at HDFC Securities, said. However, silver prices went up by Rs100 to Rs1,07,200 per kilogram on Tuesday. The white metal had ended at Rs1,07,100 per kg in the previous market close. Globally, spot gold was trading lower at $3,380.65 per ounce. Meanwhile, spot silver went up 0.44 per cent to $36.47 per ounce in the international markets.

Devakottai Sub-Collector impose ₹91-crore fine on stone quarry at Mallakottai

Devakottai sub-collector on Tuesday has imposed a fine of ₹91 crore on the stone quarry operator at Mallakottai near Singampunari which caused the death of six workers in May, 2025. Following the death of six workers, district Collector Asha Ajith cancelled the license of the quarry for operating beyond their license period. As S.S. Kottai police registered a case, they arrested three men for investigation. Subsequent to the developments, a drone survey was conducted in the particular stone quarry. As the survey revealed that stones more than permitted level were quarried from the rocks, Devakottai sub-collector Ayush Venkat Vats imposed a fine of Rs.91,00,56,960 on the quarry operator. Further, similar drone surveys were ordered to be conducted at other quarry sites in the district.

Grandmaster Abhijeet Gupta executed a quick draw in the tenth round against Aronyak Ghosh and clinched the title with 8.5 points in the 21st Delhi GM Open chess tournament at the Tivoli Gardens, Chhattarpur, on Saturday. It was a 12-move draw following a repetition of the position thrice that ensured the fourth title in the tournament for the 35-year-old Abhijeet. The title fetched a cash prize of Rs.7,00,000 for Abhijeet who won seven matches and drew the other three. There were five players tied on eight points, but as per the tie-break score, Mihail Nikitenko, Diptayan Ghosh, Aronyak Ghosh, Aditya Samant and Duc Hoa Nguyen were placed second to sixth in that order. The second placing was worth Rs.6,00,000 while the reduction of prize money by Rs.1,00,000 every spot meant Rs.2,00,000 for the sixth place. There were as many as 16 players tied on 7.5 points, but the tie-break rule categorised them in order, fetching Rs.1,00,000 for the seventh to tenth place. Top seed SL Narayanan finished seventh and pocketed Rs.1,00,000. There was cash prize up to the 55th spot in the tournament that carried an overall prize purse of Rs.1.21 crore, spread over three sections. In the category of the lowest rated players, Dinesh Kumar won the first prize of Rs.4,00,000. He was followed by Naitik Sethi and M Sibi who won Rs.3,00,000 and Rs.2,00,000 respectively. ‘Al-Qadir Trust scam': IHC again defers hearing on appeals of IK, Bushra

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC), Wednesday, again deferred hearing of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi's appeals seeking suspension of their sentence in 190 million pound case. A two-member bench of IHC comprising Acting Chief Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif was to conduct hearing of the case but the case was adjourned due to non-availability of Justice Asif. The IHC's decision to defer the case led the protests by PTI leaders and workers outside the court premises. The protestors included PTI lawyers, workers, Imran Khan's sisters Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, along with PTI Punjab Chief Organizer Aliya Hamza and Senator Seemee Ezdi. The protesters demanded the suspension of sentences and bail for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the 190 million pound case. Later, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur also arrived at the IHC to join the protest while they also met Secretary to IHC Acting Chief Justice for fixation of the case. In this matter, Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi have approached the IHC seeking suspension of their sentences. They have moved the court through their counsel Barrister Salman Safdar and cited the state and Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as respondents. Counsel Salman stated in the petition that the petitioners were convicted by the Accountability Court (I) Islamabad through judgment dated 17.01.2025, wherein, they were held guilty for commission of offence of corruption and corrupt practices as defined u/s 9 (a) (ii) (iv) (vi) of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999 and Imran was sentenced u/s 10 (a) of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999 to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 14 years and fine amounting to Rs10,00,000. Through the instant petition, they sought indulgence of this court for 'Suspension' of conviction and sentence awarded to them, till the final disposal of the main appeal already filed in the IHC. But the child of the convict should get the presence of his father for few days for a successful education," HC said The Kerala High Court recently allowed a convict seven days parole to spend a few days with his son, who is preparing to get admission for his higher education. Allowing the petition filed by the wife of a convict undergoing imprisonment at Central Prison and Correctional Home, Thavanur, the High Court noted that child of the convict should get the presence of his father for a few days for successful education. As the court was told that the child obtained six A+ and two A grade in SSLC examination, it said, 'Such a bright student seeking the help of his father to get admission in a plus two course after arranging fees and other things. This Court cannot keep its eyes shut to such request from a convict. The basic rights of the convict includes the right of a father to get good education to his child. A father's presence plays a vital role in child's higher education journey by offering emotional support, guidance and mentorship.". 'Let the bright child of the convict, namely Shahansha Rasheed, who secured six A+ in SSLC examination, spend a few days with his father. Shahansha Rasheed should go to the plus two course after getting blessings from his parents with a smile on their face. Let the almighty give blessings to Shahansha Rasheed for a bright future. I think, the petitioner's husband should be given emergency leave for a period of seven days", a bench of Justice PV Kunhikrishnan thus ordered. Accordingly, the convict Rasheed has been granted emergency leave for a period of one week from 12.06.2025 to 18.06.2025 on condition that the convict will execute a bond for Rs.1,00,000/(Rupees One Lakh Only) with two solvent sureties each for the like sum, to the satisfaction of the jail authorities.
