Brunei's gold medal came from Mohamad Khalil Kamarulzaman in the junior kumite male 76+ kilograms (kg) category while the only silver medal is from Nur Damia Zawanah in the junior kumite female 66+ kg category. Following the three days of competition, Vietnam's karate team emerged as champion with 28 gold, 31 silver and 17 bronze medals while Indonesia was in second place with 11 gold, nine silver and 24 bronze medals followed by Thailand in third place with eight gold, six silver and 27 bronze. Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Mohd Hasnan Ali Hassan witnessed the action-packed finale of the senior male team kumite. Brunei Karate Federation Executive President Yura Kesteria Mohammad Yusof said, 'We are proud of Brunei Darussalam's achievement of having secured one gold, one silver and seven bronze medals. This commendable result reflects the growing strength and potential of karate in the country.' A highlight of the closing ceremony saw the handing over of the flag to the next host of the SEAKF Championships. TAMBUNAN: Young athletics sensation Deaxter Pius stole the spotlight at the Tambunan District Schools Sports Council (MSSD) Championship after clocking extraordinary times in the 400-metre and 200-metre events, breaking both State and national school-level records. In the 400 metres, Deaxter recorded a time of 49.52 seconds, not only securing the gold medal but also shattering the Sabah Schools Sports Council (MSSS) record of 50.75 seconds and surpassing the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) record of 49.59 seconds. Advertisement He also impressed in the 200-metre event, completing the race in 22.36 seconds — beating the MSSS record of 22.50 seconds. This outstanding achievement places Deaxter among the most promising young athletes at the school level today, with high hopes that he will continue to shine in upcoming State and national competitions. Wayne's Juan Cranford Jr. returns to Dayton with St. Francis (PA) for First Four

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A local Dayton-area standout is going dancing in March Madness. A former Wayne Warrior returns home to the Miami Valley to compete in the NCAA men's basketball First Four at UD Arena. With St. Francis' 46-43 win over Central Conn. St. in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship, the Red Flash punched their ticket to the 'Big Dance' for the first time since 1991. Cranford Jr. has been one of St. Francis' star players this season, leading the team in scoring with 14 points in the championship game. He added four rebounds and an assist. A 6-foot-3, 205-pound guard, Cranford was named NEC Rookie of the Year after leading the conference's first-year players in scoring with 9.5 ppg. and 59 assists. He ranked second in field goal percentage (45.2) and steals (31), third in 3-point percentage (37.4), third in 3-pointers made (1.54) and fourth in minutes played (27.3). Cranford Jr. and the Red Flash will play at UD Arena for the second time this season after opening the 2024-25 campaign against the Dayton Flyers on Nov. 4. The Wayne grad posted 9 points in the season opener. Last season, Cranford was the GWOC Player of the Year and an honorable mention all-state selection when he averaged 16.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Warriors.
