A little more than over a year ago, Tecno tried to tease Nothing and OnePlus with a cheeky newspaper ad that you may or may not remember. A few things have happened since April 2024 until now, so it's OK if you've put this one at the back of your memory.You might even be asking yourself:Now, Tecno is not (yet) the single most well-recognized brand in the West, but the company is big across African, Middle East, Southeast Asian, South Asian, Latin American, and Eastern European markets. As exotic as Nothing and OnePlus may be, I'm sure you've heard of them.Now, Tecno is ready with its next smartphone and this time around, there aren't any cheeky "shots fired" moments – at least for the time being.Instead of engaging in tease campaigns, Tecno is focused on its own product: enter the Tecno Pova 7 series.Tecno has launched its ambitious Pova 7 Series with the intention of changing: from being a value-focused brand to a serious player in the midrange smartphone space. The series includes five models, led by the Pova 7 Ultra, designed with gamers and power users in mind:The Ultra model comes packed with a 6,000mAh battery, handy fast 70W wired and 30W wireless charging and runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Ultimate chipset. Tecno says it can deliver smooth 120 FPS gameplay in titles like PUBG and achieve over 1.5 million on AnTuTu benchmarks.The design is presented as "Interstellar Spaceship" and incorporates sharp lines, curved-edge displays, and a distinctive LED lighting system. Across the series, users get a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate and peak brightness up to 4,500 nits – pretty respectable, as these are flagship specs. Of course, the marketed 4,500 nits of brightness are not available all the time for the whole screen, but nevertheless, the panel should be really bright.There are also Dolby Atmos-enhanced stereo speakers, haptic feedback, and vapor chamber cooling that round out the gaming-focused features.For me, the most practical innovation is FreeLink, a walkie-talkie-style tool that allows nearby users (within 1 km) to call or message each other without relying on a mobile network. This off-grid feature could appeal to hikers, travelers, or those in emergency situations.The Pova 7 Series also leans heavily on functional AI. Yeah, I'd be surprised if a 2025 phone didn't. Built-in tools offer live translation, noise suppression, virtual assistant capabilities, and an on-screen object recognition feature (think of "Circle to Search"). Creatives can use AI-powered editing tools to erase unwanted photo elements or enhance portraits, all without needing third-party apps.Running on Tecno's HiOS 15 software, the phones offer a customizable Android experience with new icon styles, dynamic wallpapers, and an exclusive typeface.The Pova 7 Series is beginning its global rollout, starting with the Pova Curve 5G in India. Additional models will follow in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, South Asia, and Latin America. Pricing will vary by region.

Samsung's next mid-range phone confirmed to arrive on June 27
Samsung is going to have a remarkably busy summer. The South Korean giant is gearing up for the launch of its two foldable flagships, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, as well as a trio of affordable Android phones. Besides that, Samsung has one more surprise for those who aren't particularly interested in its expensive phones, Galaxy M36. The sequel to the arguably very popular Galaxy M35 has been teased by Samsung for a few days now. Today, Samsung confirmed the Galaxy M36 will be officially introduced in India on June 27. The phone will be available for purchase through Amazon India and Samsung's official website. Samsung has already revealed that the Galaxy M36 comes in three colors: Velvet Black, Serene Green, and Orange Haze. We also know the phone is just 7.7mm thick, which makes it 15 percent thinner than the Galaxy M35. When it comes to camera, there don't seem to be any upgrades, as the Galaxy M36 features the same triple camera as its predecessor: 50MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, and 2MP macro. Also, the phone features a 13-megapixel front-facing camera, just like the Galaxy will be interesting to see if Samsung managed to include a slightly bigger battery inside. There are no details about that yet, but the Galaxy M35 comes with a huge 6,000 mAh battery, which was one of the phone's main selling points. However, besides the visual aspect, the panels are pretty much the same specs-wise, and they're both protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+ too. Although no details about pricing options have been revealed yet, it makes sense for the Galaxy M36 to cost around the same as its predecessor. vivo X Fold5 release timeframe revealed, to support 80W charging
Vivo officially confirmed the vivo X Fold5's Chinese launch date for June 25, but the global version's debut remains unknown. According to 91mobile sources, the company plans to release the device in the second week of July. This appears to be in line with last year's X Fold3 series release, but there's no mention of the X Fold5 Pro version just yet. Additionally, Digital Chat Station, a renowned tipster from China, posted on Weibo some new specs. According to the post, the X Fold5 will feature a large 6,000 mAh battery and support 80W fast wired and 40W wireless charging. If true, the X Fold5 will have the biggest battery and the fastest charging in the foldable segment. vivo Y400 Pro arrives with a 120Hz curved screen and 4K-enabled front camera
The vivo Y400 Pro, which we've been hearing about for the past couple of weeks, has been officially unveiled. vivo says it's "designed to meet the evolving demands of style-conscious, performance-driven consumers" and those "chasing bigger dreams." The vivo Y400 Pro is built around a 6.77" FullHD+ 3D curved AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 4,500 nits of peak brightness. The screen, having wet touch support, also has a fingerprint scanner underneath for biometric authentication and a punch hole for the 32MP selfie camera, which is capable of 4K video recording. Around the back, we have an IR Blaster for remote control and two cameras - 50MP primary (Sony IMX882) and 2MP depth (for bokeh). The smartphone supports Sony Multifocal Portrait, enabling users to click portraits at 1x, 1.5x, and 2x magnifications. Under the hood is the Dimensity 7300 SoC with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. On the software side, we've got Android 15-based Funtouch OS 15, but vivo hasn't revealed how long it will keep the Y400 Pro's software updated. Keeping the lights on for the vivo Y400 Pro is a 5,500 mAh battery with 90W charging support. vivo claims that the bundled power adapter can charge the battery up to 50% in 19 minutes. The rest of the vivo Y400 Pro's highlights include an IP65 rating, dual stereo speakers, Hi-Res Audio (wired and wireless), and the usual set of AI-powered features we've seen on other vivo smartphones. The vivo Y400 Pro is offered in Fest Gold, Nebula Purple, and Freestyle White colors. The back cover of the white model features a unique Baroque Pearl texture, so no two Freestyle White models will look the same. vivo Y400 Pro's color options The 8GB/128GB variant of the vivo Y400 Pro is priced at INR24,999 ($290/€250), while the 8GB/256GB model costs INR26,999 ($310/€270).
