Brighton and Forest locked in Cuiabano transfer battle after three rejected bids

Brighton and Nottingham Forest are going head-to-head for Botafogo left-back Cuiabano, who is currently away at the Club World Cup Brighton are refusing to give up on the signing of Botafogo left-back Cuiabano - despite seeing three bids rejected for the 22-year-old Brazilian. Nottingham Forest have also attempted to sign Cuiabano and their interest in the player remains strong. The Tricky Trees have already agreed a £30million package deal with Botafogo for striker Igor Jesus and centre-back Jair Cunha, who will both move to the City Ground following their participation in the Club World Cup. ‌ However, so far, they've been unable to strike an agreement for Cuiabano and the race for his signature remains open. Brighton's latest offer was worth in the region of £7.7m including add-ons but it was still not enough to satisfy Botafogo's valuation. ‌ The defender has been used from the bench in both of Botafogo's Club World Cup fixtures including the impressive 1-0 scalp over European Champions PSG. Brighton are exploring the signing of a new left-back despite handing Tariq Lamptey a new contract as Pervis Estupinan has told the Seagulls that he's open to a new challenge. Estupinan told El Canal Del Futbol while away on international duty: 'The truth is they have been three years in Brighton with a lot of learning. But this will be a transfer market with a lot of movement. The club know that I would like to grow, that I would like to keep growing. 'The club have understood this. I've spoken to the club. The club have given me this bit of freedom to be able to make a decision. Now we will try to see better what is on the table and to see where we can go." Meanwhile, Forest boss Nuno Espírito Santo has signed a new three-year Nottingham Forest contract until the summer of 2028. ‌ The Portuguese boss guided the Tricky Trees to their highest league finish in 30 years to qualify for the UEFA Conference League. Next season will be the first time the City Ground has staged European football since the 1995-96 campaign. Nuno replaced previous boss Steve Cooper in December 2023 and later guided Forest to survival on the final day of the season before securing a seventh-place finish. Forest also reached the FA Cup semi-finals this term. The 51-year-old said upon penning his new deal: "I am delighted to be able to continue our journey at this fantastic football club. "Since we arrived at Forest, we have worked extremely hard to create a special bond between the players, the fans and everyone at the club, which helped us achieve great things last season."

Man Utd chiefs backed into corner over four deals crippling Ruben Amorim budget

Manchester United are determined to push through a number of high-profile sales this summer to bolster Ruben Amorim's spending power but the process is already proving complex for the Old Trafford hierarchy Jadon Sancho's salary is once again complicating his Manchester United exit. Italian champions Napoli and Juventus are both courting the 25-year-old winger but currently, would only be willing to pursue a loan that would enable them to share a percentage of his wages, worth £250,000 per week plus bonuses, with United. The Red Devils are adamant another loan is not feasible and are pushing for a sale after Chelsea paid a £5million penalty clause to send the England international back to Old Trafford. ‌ It's understood Sancho is open to a new experience in Serie A having previously held discussions with Juventus last summer before a deal collapsed over financials. ‌ Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford faces being left in limbo as Barcelona are working to finalise the arrival of Athletic Club attacker Nico Williams. Rashford has been holding out for a move to Catalonia following his six-month loan spell at Aston Villa but if Barca get the signing of Williams over the line, a deal looks off the table. Como are the latest club to make enquiries for £81.3m flop Antony but the Brazilian currently favours a return to Real Betis, who want to secure another loan for the 25-year-old. READ MORE: Antonio Conte makes statement about Man Utd transfer he did not think would happen United believe now is the perfect time to sell Antony following his eye-catching form in Spain, there has been loose interest from Bayer Leverkusen but his desire to rejoin Betis threatens to back the Red Devils into a corner. Earlier this month, Rasmus Hojlund also outlined his desire to stay and fight for his place at United while away on international duty with Denmark. Ruben Amorim is not actively looking to sell the 22-year-old but the Red Devils would be willing to sanction his departure for the right price if it enabled them to upgrade their forward options. ‌ Inter Milan were keen to explore a loan-to-buy deal which would have required United to take a significant hit on the £72m fee they paid Atalanta for the Dane in 2023 but they're now in advanced talks to sign Parma striker Ange-Yoan Bonny, instead. Hojlund's commitment to fulfilling his contract and potential under Amorim means a departure is not a given, particularly when sellable assets such as Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony actively want out. ‌ Rashford - valued at £40m - is willing to return to United training next month, if suitable offers for his services fail to materialise. It's been well documented that United must sell-to-buy following the £62.5m arrival of Matheus Cunha but to date, there has been little progress regarding departures.

Moreira narrowly fails to weave Ascot magic for Japan

The Brazilian pilot, known as the 'Magic Man', has ridden big winners around the globe and was entrusted with providing Japan with a first victory at the Royal meeting when receiving the leg-up aboard Noriyuki Hori's ace sprinter – who was sent off the 2-1 favourite for the final Group One of the week. Having been subject to persistent money since advertising his wellbeing in a recent Newmarket gallop, the six-year-old travelled through the contest in sublime style for Moreira. However, he met a determined rival in Lazzat in the closing stages and when the duo began to duel late into the piece, it was Jerome Reynier's French raider who came out on top in the international showdown for sprinting supremacy. 'We went into the race with a lot of confidence, the horse was so well in himself but unfortunately we bumped into a very good horse today,' said Moreira. 'Lazzat's form indicated he would be a danger and he had been winning impressively on his home ground. 'Halfway through I thought I had him done, but he just had another kick and kept attacking the line. I was closing up the gap but we just bumped into a good horse today and my horse ran really well. 'We thought we had a really good crack and unfortunately we just bumped into a really good horse. I can't complain, he tried his very best. 'It's a pleasure to be at a festival like this – of course finishing second is not the best result, but I still have to be happy with that.' While the Wathnan Racing team were able to celebrate feature race success for the headline signing from their pre-Ascot delve into the transfer market, they were also delighted with the performance of fellow new signing Flora Of Bermuda. Andrew Balding's admirable filly was narrowly denied by Inisherin at York on her return to action and in her first outing in the peacock blue and old gold silks, she again hit the frame with a brave third in the hands of PJ McDonald. 'She's run an absolute blinder and she was just a little bit free early,' said Wathnan's Richard Brown. 'She's run another very solid race, she's so consistent. I'd be hopeful that one of these might drop her way and she had some very good horses behind her. 'These two (Lazzat and Satono Reve) have obviously gone a long way clear, but she's finished best of the rest.'
