Selena Gomez Drops New Music, But Hitting No. 1 Seems Out Of Reach

For the first time in her career, Selena Gomez missed hitting No. 1 with a new album. Just a few weeks ago, she and her fiancé Benny Blanco released I Said I Love You First, on March 21. The project succeeded in large part due to Gomez's incredible popularity, as she remains one of the most-followed people on social media and juggles successful careers in TV, film, music, and cosmetics. As a multihyphenate and accomplished businesswoman, Gomez is used to topping the Billboard 200 every time she delivers a full-length project, but this time, she narrowly missed the mark. Now, she and her partner are hoping for another shot at the summit.
Gomez and Blanco released the deluxe edition of I Said I Love You First, now retitled I Said I Love You First… And You Said It Back, on Friday (May 2). The expanded version was only announced a few days prior, so its arrival came as a bit of a surprise.
This updated edition includes several new tunes, as well as a handful of other additions. The album now featured a reworked version of 'Cowboy' with a verse by rapper GloRilla, a live take of 'How Does It Feel to Be Forgotten,' and an acoustic version of 'Call Me When You Break Up,' the lead single that also credits Gracie Abrams.
Fans quickly began buying I Said I Love You First… And You Said It Back once it became available. The title ranked among the highest-rising new entries on iTunes on Friday, at the beginning of the new tracking period. However, it didn't perform nearly as well as the original version when it dropped, which shot to No. 1 immediately. Gomez and Blanco's updated effort approached the top 10 on the list of the top-selling full-lengths on the platform, but struggled to actually break into that space.
This week, I Said I Love You First tumbles from No. 26 to No. 47 on the Billboard 200 in just its fifth frame on the tally. That's quite the drop for a project that received such heavy promotion. Such a descent does not bode well for the album's long-term success. That said, now that new music has been added to the now 20-plus track effort — up from the original 14 songs — there's a good chance the release will rebound on the Billboard charts next week…though exactly how high is yet to be seen.
Given that it's a relatively quiet frame, Gomez and Blanco stand a decent chance of soaring higher on the competitive Billboard 200. But reaching No. 1 seems like it's a real stretch – one that's likely not to be considered within reach. To seriously compete for the summit, the two musicians would need to sell a significant number of copies and see a sharp uptick in streams of the project. Most of the success would likely need to come from purchases, but many of Friday's other new arrivals outsold I Said I Love You First… And You Said It Back.
Chances are, the pair will have to settle for a solid gain — perhaps even a return to the top 20. The album will almost certainly remain Gomez's first full-length under her own name to miss the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.

(Photo by) Sabrina Carpenter scores a brand new hit all around the world this week with 'Manchild,' the lead single from her forthcoming album Man's Best Friend. The track earns a huge debut, landing on charts seemingly everywhere in impressive starting positions, especially on Billboard's worldwide tallies. All the excitement around the country-tinged pop tune appears to have had a spillover effect, as multiple other tracks by Carpenter are climbing internationally. Sabrina Carpenter Claims Multiple Global Hits Carpenter currently fills five spaces on the Billboard Global 200, including with 'Manchild.' All but one of those tracks also appear on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., which operates in much the same manner, only with streams and sales from American audiences removed. All of the Grammy winner's tracks are growing, and in one instance, a previous favorite even manages to return. 'Espresso,' 'Taste' and 'Please Please Please' Climb 'Espresso,' 'Taste' and 'Please Please Please' are the three biggest hits from Carpenter's 2024 album Short n' Sweet. Each rises on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. at the same time. Among that trio, 'Espresso' is the greatest gainer, as it presently sits inside the top 20 on both rankings, 61 weeks into its stay. All three tracks are currently present inside the upper half of the 200-spot rosters. 'Busy Woman' Mounts a Comeback Before 'Manchild,' Carpenter's most recent single was 'Busy Woman,' a track that was added to the deluxe edition of Short n' Sweet months after the album's debut. 'Busy Woman' doesn't find space on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. this week, but it does reenter the Billboard Global 200 at No. 155. 'Manchild' Nearly Reaches No. 1 Carpenter almost earned another No. 1 on the two planet-spanning tallies as 'Manchild' debuts. The quick win launches at No. 2 on both rankings, giving the pop superstar her fourth top 10. Only 'Ordinary' by Alex Warren keeps her from the throne, as that tune is easily one of the biggest hits of 2025 all around the world.

Selena Gomez's Bangs Are Actually a Wig—and Her Reason Is So Relatable

THE RUNDOWN Selena Gomez debuted blunt bangs this weekend—but they aren't a permanent change. This morning, the singer posted an Instagram showing off her wavy lob with messy bangs. She revealed it was a wig and explained in her caption why she can't commit to the cut. She wrote, 'I would, but I'd regret it, then get it redone so I simply won't #bangs.' Gomez first shared the snap of herself with bangs on Saturday. She had been posting to support her fiancé, Benny Blanco, who was performing at the Kids' Choice Awards. She followed up with a second Instagram Story, debunking fan speculation that she had chopped her hair. The actress wrote: 'It was a wiggly wig.' Gomez is back on Instagram after spending years away from the platform. During her Time100 Summit talk in 2024, the star discussed how the social media break changed her life. 'I took four years off of Instagram, and I let my team post for me for those years,' she began. 'I felt like it was the most rewarding gift I gave myself. I think people, especially young kids, it's—you're sitting there so focused on what looks wonderful when everything that's meant to be wonderful to you is not from here. [During my break], I was more present. I was happier. I would actually get real phone calls [from] people telling me about their story, and I could actually hear it instead of going, 'Oh, I already know what you did today.' It's more human.' She added that she is still careful with how she uses social media. 'It's important to take breaks,' she said. 'So I try to—I don't really pay much attention. I'll just do things here and there.'

Disgraced Ezra Miller Eyes Possible Hollywood Return

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Ezra Miller has been missing in action from the big screen ever since 2023's "The Flash", but the actor recently revealed that they're "on tentative grounds" with the idea of returning to the limelight. They're also working on a vampire movie with "Die My Love" director Lynne Ramsay. I'd say on tentative grounds." Ezra Miller attends the Los Angeles Premiere of Warner Bros. "The Flash" at Ovation Hollywood on June 12, 2023 in Hollywood, California Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic As to why they were at Cannes, Miller said they were there to support Ramsay who famously directed Miller in the acclaimed 2011 drama "We Need to Talk About Kevin". "I'm working with [Ramsay] again, that will likely be the first thing I do," Miller said. "It's a film that her and I are writing together. I've been writing a lot because you can do that in solitude, which has been friendly to me." "And I came to Cannes because she asked me to come, and if there's anything I really still believe in in my life, it's devotion to one's people, one's loved ones ... above all else." Miller became one of Hollywood's most controversial figures in 2022 after a long list of legal troubles arose. Even earlier than that, back in 2020, Miller's behavior was raising alarms when a video surfaced that appeared to show them choking a woman in a bar. Before those controversies arose, Miller's star was on the rise, with the "Perks of Being a Wallflower" star attached to two huge (though later defunct) blockbuster Warner Bros. franchises: the DCEU and JK Rowling's "Fantastic Beasts". Miller ultimately apologized for their behavior and promised to seek treatment for their "complex mental health issues." Speaking about what happened, Miller said, "When you work in this industry, you will find yourself in deep relation with a lot of people who do not give a single f--k about you or your well being at all." "And so, not that I don't hold a lot of remorse or lamentation for a lot of things that I did and a lot of things that happened in that time, but I'm really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss."
