Couple get engaged on hot air balloon moments before it crashes in disaster

Daily Mirror4 days ago

Tiago Kempinas, 37, and his girlfriend Gabrielle Nascimento, 27, had just got engaged while riding a hot air balloon in Brazil's Sao Paulo state when the overloaded aircraft plunged back towards earth
This is the bittersweet moment a couple got engaged on a hot air balloon moments before the overpacked aircraft suddenly came crashing back down to Earth, killing one woman and injuring dozens.
The incident took place in Capela do Alto, in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, on the morning of Sunday, 15th June, with the footage showing the moment engineer Tiago Kempinas, 37, proposed to university student Gabrielle Nascimento, 27.

The video shows him asking her to marry him in front of the other passengers as the balloon operator releases hot air into the balloon.

Tiago gives Gabrielle a huge bouquet of flowers and pops open a box with their engagement rings as she says 'yes'.
The marriage proposal was made high up in the air, moments before the accident which claimed the life of another passenger, named as 27-year-old Juliana Alves Prado Pereira, who was also on a romantic trip with her husband, reports NewsX.
Gabrielle, who was injured in the incident, said: "It was beautiful, until it turned into a nightmare. I'll never get in a balloon again."
According to reports, the balloon, which had 35 people onboard but could only carry 24, tried to land twice.

On the first attempt, some people were thrown off.
On the second attempt, passengers panicked and started jumping out of the basket.

The balloon pilot was arrested for manslaughter and for the illegal practice of a commercial activity.
According to the police, he did not have the right paperwork and was only licensed to operate private clinic flights.
It comes after a popular holiday hotspot descended into chaos last week when one person was killed and another 31 injured in two separate shock balloon crashes.

The dozen people were injured near the Ihara Valley in Turkey, a popular holiday destination usually packed with tourists, following a reported hard landing.
The fatal crash took place in a picturesque part of central Turkey, where hot air ballooning is hugely popular thanks to the stunning local landscape.
Among the many local attractions are the well-known "fairy chimney" rock formations of Cappadocia, a UNESCO World Heritage site caused by centuries of unusual erosion.
Updating the public, Aksaray Governor Mehmet Ali Kumbuzoğlu said the pilot died in the accident after his feet became tangled in the hot air balloon's rope.
He said: "Unfortunately, our pilot got stuck under the basket and died. Our tourists are in good condition. We took them to the hospital by ambulance. They are being examined."

How many games will Nicolas Jackson miss after red card at Club World Cup?

Nicolas Jackson is set to serve another suspension after the Chelsea star's latest red card at the Club World Cup. The Senegal international was dismissed just four minutes after coming off the bench in Friday's Group D clash with Brazilian side Flamengo, who came from behind to seal a 3-1 win. It came just as his side had conceded two goals to surrender their first-half lead, leaving his teammates and manager Enzo Maresca in a desperate situation. Jackson caught Flamengo defender Ayrton Lucas high as he clamped down on the defender to earn his second straight red card in just over a month. The 24-year-old was given his marching orders in the Premier League meeting against Newcastle United in May. Just 36 minutes into the match, Jackson was judged to have elbowed Sven Botman, earning himself an early bath. That indiscretion earned him a three-match ban, missing the final games of the 2024-25 league season against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest. He will also miss the opening game of the new season against Crystal Palace. A red card in the Club World Cup means Jackson is now facing another enforced absence. Red cards earn a player a one-match suspension in Club World Cup games. Fifa's guidance states: 'Any player or official given a red card will miss their team's subsequent match. In addition, further sanctions – e.g. an additional suspension or a fine – may be imposed. 'Red cards will not be wiped at any point during the tournament. If a player is sent off during the semi-finals, he will be suspended for the final.' FIFA's Disciplinary Committee does have the power to lengthen a suspension if they deem the offence serious enough, already demonstrating that in this competition. Boca Juniors duo Ander Herrera and Nicolas Figal were this week handed four-match bans after being sent off in their side's opening game of the competition against Benfica on Monday. More Trending Herrera was dismissed after he was seen grappling with a member of staff as he tried to approach the referee towards the end of the first-half with his indiscretion filed under 'unsportsmanlike conduct'. Figal meanwhile was shown a straight red card for a foul on Florentino Luis in the 88th minute with his suspension for violent conduct – a charge Jackson could also face. Nicolas Jackson will be ruled out of Chelsea's final group game against Tunisian side ES Tunis, which kicks off at 2am in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Any further action could see him miss knockout stage games. Cole Palmer makes surprise admission as he explains shirt number change

Chelsea star Cole Palmer made a surprise revelation while explaining his decision to switch to the No.10 shirt. Following their opening win against Los Angeles FC, Chelsea continue their Club World Cup campaign on Friday night against Flamengo. The Premier League club take on the Brazilian giants, whose side includes former Chelsea and Arsenal star Jorginho, in Philadelphia at 7pm UK time. Ahead of the tournament, it was announced that Palmer would be switching his shirt number from 20 to 10, befitting of his status as arguably the team's best player. The No.10 shirt had been worn by Mykhailo Mudryk since January 2023, with the Ukraine international not given a replacement number amid his suspension for failing a doping test last year. Since the announcement, Mudryk has been charged by the Football Association and could be banned from football for up to four years, with Enzo Maresca seemingly in the dark about his future at Stamford Bridge. The 24-year-old, nicknamed 'Misha' by his teammates, has denied knowingly taking any banned substances, explaining in a statement last November he was in 'complete shock' having 'not done anything wrong'. It is usually customary for players to seek permission from each other if they wish to take their squad number, but Palmer has revealed that he has not been in contact with his exiled teammate. 'I have not spoken to Misha yet, but I will when the time is right,' the England international told reporters ahead of the Flamengo clash. 'It is not really my place to get involved with him at the minute. I will speak to him. On Wednesday, June 18, a Football Associaton spokesman said: 'We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA's Anti-Doping Regulations. 'As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.' 'I wore No.10 all my life growing up and I just like the number. More Trending 'Lionel Messi the big one, Wayne Rooney and players like that – it's an iconic number.' Palmer will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of successful Chelsea No.10s like Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Joe Cole. Maresca also confirmed that he had no say in the matter, adding: 'Was I involved in this decision? No, no, I don't care about the numbers. 'It's a player matter. Is Cole good enough to wear the No10? Yes.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. PSG and Botafogo fans threw punches at each other with around 25 people seemingly involved. The ugly scenes saw two Parisians attack a single Botafogo supporter and continue after he dropped to the floor. Other fans stopped the duo before a man in a Botafogo shirt then attacked them. It led to several people falling over and as they were on the deck, a different member of the PSG faithful kicked and stamped on someone's head in a sickening assault. Another was seen punching a man repeatedly while he was down. There was shockingly no stewards or police on the scene to stop the fight. And many other supporters not looking for trouble are seen running away from the melee. It remains unclear what began the brawl or the injuries sustained. PSG supporters were involved in violence after winning the Champions League final last month. The victory led to cars being set on fire and clashes with riot cops back in the French capital, with over 500 arrests and 200 people injured. On the pitch last night, Nottingham Forest target Igor Jesus scored the only goal in a shock win for Botafogo, who now top Group B after two wins. They look set to go through with PSG and Atletico Madrid battling it out for second place. 7 The match finished 1-0 to Botafogo Credit: @r9carloss
