The relationship between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been complex over the years.
Relations between the two presidents extend as far back as 2019, the year the Ukrainian leader took office.
It has since weathered the start of the war in Ukraine, Mr Trump 's reelection and last month's heated exchange in the Oval Office, in which Mr Zelenskyy was accused of being "disrespectful" to his country's most powerful ally.
Here we look back at the key moments that have helped shape the pair's relationship and how it has changed over the years.
The 'perfect' phone call
One of the first times Mr Zelenskyy spoke with Mr Trump was in July 2019, months after he became president of Ukraine.
During a 30-minute phone call, the US leader suggested that in exchange for future military support for Ukraine, Mr Zelenskyy should help launch an investigation into Joe Biden's son, Hunter.
Trump allies alleged Mr Biden had lobbied Ukraine to dismiss its top prosecutor to obstruct a probe into energy fIrm Burisma, which had Hunter Biden as one of its board members.
Mr Trump's request coincided with him appearing to want to weaken Mr Biden as he competed to become the Democratic nominee for the presidential election.
It was this call that formed the basis for Mr Trump's first impeachment by the Democratic-controlled House in December 2019 on abuse of power and obstruction of justice charges.
Mr Trump denied wrongdoing at the time and referred to his exchange with Mr Zelenskyy as a "perfect" phone call. He was later acquitted by the Senate.
Mr Zelenskyy later admitted, during his first face-to-face meeting with Mr Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2019, that there was "no blackmail" involved in the exchange.
Outbreak of war
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, triggering the biggest conflict on the European continent since the Second World War.
At the time, the Biden administration made steadfast military and political support for Ukraine a centrepiece of US foreign policy, which included huge sums of military assistance.
Mr Trump condemned the war as "appalling", saying at the time that he was praying for Ukrainians. He even extended praise to Mr Zelenskyy, calling him "brave" for staying in the capital, Kyiv.
In the run-up to the 2024 presidential election, Mr Trump claimed he would be able to stop the war in 24 hours, adding that he would be able to "get it settled" before even entering the White House.
Doubting the claims, Mr Zelenskyy invited Mr Trump to Ukraine during an interview with Sky News' US partner network, NBC News, in November 2023.
"If he can come here, I will need 24 minutes - yes, 24 minutes. Not more. Yes. Not more - 24 minutes to explain [to] President Trump that he can't manage this war [in that time frame]," Mr Zelenskyy told Meet The Press presenter Kristen Welker.
He added at the time that he was unsure if Mr Trump would have Ukraine's back if he were to re-enter the White House.
Meeting ahead of US election
A month before Mr Trump won the US election, Mr Zelenskyy visited him in Trump Tower, New York.
The trip, which took place in September, came after Mr Zelenskyy told the New Yorker magazine that he thought Mr Trump "doesn't really know how to stop the war".
He added, "many leaders have thought they could, but have been unable to do so".
While in New York, the pair discussed ending the war, with Mr Trump telling Fox News after the meeting that Mr Zelenskyy wants fighting in his country to stop.
Mr Zelenskyy also reissued the invite for Mr Trump to visit Ukraine, to which he said he would accept.
'Dictator without elections'
Work seemingly began on a ceasefire deal soon after Mr Trump was sworn into office.
Mr Zelenskyy said in February that he was working with a team from the Trump administration, describing the US as the "power that has the ability to not only stop the war but also help ensure the reliability of peace afterwards".
But relations quickly seemed to turn sour when the US administration held talks with Russian officials in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia without Ukraine.

The four-and-a-half hour meeting was condemned by Kyiv, who said talks should not be held behind Ukraine's back. Mr Zelenskyy also postponed a visit to Saudi Arabia, reportedly as a way to avoid giving the US-Russian meeting "legitimacy".
The US-Russian meetings appeared to work as a catalyst of dwindling relations between the two presidents, with Mr Trump then suggesting that Ukraine was responsible for starting the war, adding that Mr Zelenskyy had "better move fast" or he would have no country left.
Her later called Mr Zelenskyy a " dictator without elections" - a dig at him remaining in office after Ukraine's general election was delayed due to Russia's invasion.
He also repeated the claim that the Ukrainian president has low approval ratings - which had already been dismissed by Mr Zelenskyy as Russian disinformation - and claimed American aid money had been misused.
That Oval Office meeting
Despite prior crosswords, relations between Mr Trump and Mr Zelenskyy appeared to be back on track near the end of February, when Ukraine said it wanted to sign a minerals deal with the US, giving them the right to $500bn (£394bn) in potential revenue from the resources.
The deal had planned to be signed during an in-person meeting in the Oval Office, but Mr Zelenskyy's visit was cut short due to a clash in front of the world's media.

The last 10 minutes of the almost 45-minute meeting descended into a tense back-and-forth, which began with vice president JD Vance telling Mr Zelenksyy: "I think it's disrespectful for you to come to the Oval Office to try to litigate this in front of the American media.
"You should be thanking the President [Trump] for trying to bring an end to this conflict."
As the Ukrainian president tried to object, Mr Trump raised his voice and told him: "You're gambling with the lives of millions of people.
"You're gambling with World War Three, and what you're doing is very disrespectful to the country, this country that's backed you far more than a lot of people say they should have."
The back 'on track' phone call
Addressing Congress a few days after the meeting in the Oval Office, Mr Trump said he had received an " important letter" from Mr Zelenskyy in which he said he would work under his leadership to reach a peace deal.
The letter appeared to echo what Mr Zelenskyy had said in a statement on social media hours after the US reported it was pausing military aid to Kyiv.
Mr Zelenskyy described the Oval Office meeting as "regrettable", adding that it "did not go the way it was supposed to be" and it was "time to make things right".
He also added that he was "ready to sign" the mineral deal, which had remained a sticking point between the two countries.
The pair did not have any direct contact until Wednesday, when they had an hour-long phone call.
Mr Trump described the conversation as "very good" adding that he and Mr Zelenskyy are "very much on track".

The narrative is central to Putin's rhetoric, which he has used to justify his invasion of Ukraine. However, he said Russia is ready to recognise Ukraine's sovereignty. But he reiterated his demand that Kyiv accept the realities of Moscow's territorial gains and abandon plans to join Nato. Putin said: "We aren't seeking Ukraine's surrender, we want them to recognise the realities on the ground," adding that Moscow has repeatedly warned Kyiv to make a deal. Asked about Moscow's goals in Ukraine, Putin threatened to take Sumy - a key Ukrainian city - as part of the creation of a "buffer zone". He repeated that Moscow was "advancing on all fronts" and that his troops had penetrated up to seven miles into the Sumy region. Putin said: "We have to create a security zone along the border. Putin has lost a MILLION men - Ukraine has killed so many it is running out of ammo "We have no objective to take Sumy, but in principle I do not rule it out... They pose a constant threat to us, constantly shelling the border areas." Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga described Putin's comments as "deranged" and called for Kyiv's allies to slap "devastating sanctions" on Russia. "The only way to force Russia into peace is to deprive it of its sense of impunity," he wrote in a post on X. Putin's widening territorial ambitions are likely to roil Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has accused Moscow of not wanting to end the fighting. The two sides held rounds of direct talks in Istanbul in May and in June, but Kyiv accused Moscow of sending "dummy" negotiators with no real power to enact a peace deal. Putin has declined to take part in the peace talks in person and on Thursday said he would only meet Zelensky during a "final phase" of negotiations on ending the three-year conflict. Ukraine's fierce resistance forced Russia to pay a mighty toll for every inch of land it has taken, and its advances remain painfully slow. The staggering milestone includes troops who have been killed or wounded so severely that they cannot fight on. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, one million Russian military troops have been put out of action since February 24, 2022, with 628,000 of those casualties occurring in the last six months. Burning through a million troops has won Putin just 20 per cent of Ukraine's total territory - mainly in southern and eastern areas - which is a humiliating conversion rate. Despite the devastating losses which have already ripped a scar in Russian society, experts fear that Putin is likely unaffected by the numbers. Zelensky confirmed that Moscow has been attempting to gain ground in the border regions of Sumy in the northeast. Even with the death toll climbing higher by the day Putin appears to be doubling down. The bloody milestone comes as Putin calls for a major upgrade to Russia's ground forces, Ukrainian outlet Pravda reports. 10 The Kremlin tyrant declared them the 'dominant force' in modern warfare and demanded faster development of 'advanced weapons systems' with 'the highest tactical and technical specifications.' In a meeting on the state armaments programme, Putin also directed resources toward strengthening Russia's navy, further signalling his long-term military ambitions. It all comes as Russia is reportedly building up a 50,000-strong force alongside the border of Kharkiv amid fears of a fresh summer offensive to attack the city. With the US backing out of direct negotiations to broker a peace deal and Putin stalling ceasefire talks, experts fear a major Russian offensive could mobilise in the coming weeks. The Ukrainian military in April reported that the Kremlin was amassing troops to prepare for a fresh assault on Kharkiv - Ukraine's second largest city. Military analysts believe he is trying to press home his advantage and capture more Ukrainian land. They warn that Putin only has a "four-month window" to get a breakthrough in Ukraine this year. Disney CEO Bob Iger's dramatic move following LA protests that will be sure to infuriate Trump
Disney CEO Bob Iger is fighting Donald Trump through his women's soccer team, who have publicly protested the ICE raids on Los Angeles and the president's response to riots. Iger - along with his wife and dean of the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism Willow Bay - is the majority shareholder of Angel City FC, who represent Los Angeles in the National Women's Soccer League. Amid controversy over federal law enforcement's appearances at Dodger Stadium, Angel City have been publicly and vociferously in opposition to the president in moves that Deadline reports Iger backed and was 'thoroughly consulted on.' Ahead of their recent match against North Carolina Courage, the organization offered the first 10,000 fans - Angel City regularly leads NWSL in attendance and averaged 19,000 per match in 2024 - a t-shirt with the words 'Immigrant City FC' on the front and 'Los Angeles is for everyone' in English and Spanish. The team has also sold shirts on their website with proceeds going to Castro Immigration Services, who 'serve the immigrant community by providing quality legal counsel on immigration matters and connecting immigrant families to available resources.' Aside from Iger, the club has several liberal celebrities with minority shares, including Eva Longoria, Jessica Chastain and America Ferrara, putting several famous and powerful people at loggerheads with Trump. Angel City FC - along with MLS side LAFC, with whom they share a stadium - have issued statements of support for immigrants but otherwise the city's sports franchises have refrained from commenting. Iger and Bay have made no public statement on the protests, however it appears he not only signed off on it but was briefed on the move every step of the way. Iger - along with his wife and dean of the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism Willow Bay - is the majority shareholder of Angel City FC, who represent Los Angeles in the National Women's Soccer League, who gave out these pro-immigrant t-shirts at a recent match has reached out to the White House for comment. It comes as Iger's day job at Disney has tried to make nice with the second Trump administration on multiple big occasions. Most recently, ABC News has fired star anchor Terry Moran just days after he penned a social media post calling Donald Trump a 'world class hater' and blasting top advisor Stephen Miller as full of 'bile.' A spokesperson for the network confirmed the firing in a statement on Tuesday that specifically cited Moran's post as a 'clear violation' of ABC's policy. 'We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post – which was a clear violation of ABC News policies – we have made the decision to not renew,' the statement read. 'At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism,' the rep added. Moran, 65, was a senior national correspondent at the network. He previously served as ABC's Chief Foreign Correspondent from 2013 to 2018. In May, it was reported ABC News and its parent company Disney have asked the ladies of The View to dial back their constant complaining about President Donald Trump. Among these was the live-action version of The Little Mermaid, Guardians of the Galaxy, Strange World and Lightyear. The Little Mermaid sparked controversy over the casting of Black actress Halle Bailey as the title character, Ariel. Lightyear, released one year ago with a reported budget of $200 million, brought in a modest $226.7 million in worldwide ticket sales. The film could not be shown in 14 Middle Eastern and Asian countries because of its depiction of a same-sex relationship. Since the company has been faced with loss from the Disney+ streaming business, which is expected to become profitable only next year, they have turned to the parks business to soften the blow.
