Nyara Sabally and Leonie Fiebich went to breakfast Wednesday morning before Fiebich boarded an international flight.
Sabally had every intention at the beginning of the season to join her Liberty teammate on that plane and play for the German national team at EuroBasket, which starts Wednesday.
But after dealing with a nagging knee issue for 2 ½ weeks, Sabally made the difficult decision to sit out the international tournament.
'It was a pretty last-minute decision,' Sabally said Thursday. 'I kind of just waited until the last minute to be completely sure. After my knee kind of got worse and the [platelet-rich plasma] injection, I kind of knew it probably would be the best idea to kind of stay here.'

Exciting Kaitlyn Chen News Features Paige Bueckers Twist

Exciting Kaitlyn Chen News Features Paige Bueckers Twist originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kaitlyn Chen is finally getting her shot at the WNBA, and it couldn't come at a better time for her. On Sunday, the Golden State Valkyries signed Chen to a contract amid their need for more players. It comes after a number of their players — such as Janelle Salaun, Julie Vanloo, Cecilia Zandalasini and Temi Fagbenle — took a temporary leave to join their respective nations for EuroBasket 2025. Advertisement According to the Valkyries, the 23-year-old guard will be immediately available to play when they return to action on Tuesday. What many fans quickly noticed about the announcement, however, was the team that the Valkyries will be facing in Chen's first game: the Dallas Wings. The Wings have Paige Bueckers, whom they drafted No. 1 overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft. The star guard was also teammates with Chen with the UConn Huskies, and they both won the national championship together this past college basketball season. With that said, fans couldn't help but get excited about Chen's signing and the timing of her first game with the Valkyries. "Chen vs Paige, going to be so fun to watch," a commenter wrote. Another excited supporter said, "[Expletive] Kaitlyn!!! And we get our K&P reunion." Advertisement "Against Dallas. Lol," a follower noted, clearly seeing the Chen-Bueckers connection. A fan remarked, "Nat thinks she's slick. She wants her to guard Paige." "Yay!! Her and Paige get to reunite.. so happy for her and the Valks," a social media user shared. A sixth poster gushed, "JUST IN TIME FOR A UCONN REUNION." Former UConn Huskies players Paige Bueckers, Aubrey Griffin and Kaitlyn Chen. Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images It remains to be seen how much playing time Kaitlyn Chen will get and if she will have the chance to guard Paige Bueckers. One thing is certain, though: the Wings-Valkyries showdown is a must-watch with its UConn storyline. How billionaire Mark Walter, set to own the controlling stake in Lakers, made his fortune

The billionaire slated to take over the controlling interest in the Los Angeles Lakers has built a career leading businesses investing in everything from sports franchises to artificial intelligence. Mark Walter is CEO of the global investment and advisory company Guggenheim Partners, which is estimated to have more than $325 billion in assets. He's also co-founder and CEO of holding company TWG Global. Forbes estimates Walter's net worth is $6.1 billion. The publication ranked him at No. 216 on its Forbes 400 list last year. Walter received an undergraduate degree in business administration from Creighton University and a law degree from Northwestern University, but ultimately chose business over a career in law. In the mid-1990s, he co-founded Liberty Hampshire, an investment management firm in Chicago. That business became part of Guggenheim Partners, which Walter co-founded in the late 1990s. In addition to Guggenheim, Walter co-founded TWG Global with entrepreneur and investor Thomas Tull. The company holds a portfolio of finance and insurance sector companies, including Guggenheim Investments, Guggenheim Securities, Group 1001 Insurance and Delaware Life. It also includes aerospace and defense technology company Shield AI. Last month, TWG Global announced a partnership with Palantir Technologies and Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, maker of Grok, aimed at developing artificial intelligence for use in the financial services industry. TWG Global also includes investments in sports, media and entertainment franchises, such as the controlling interest in the Los Angeles Dodgers, Premier League club Chelsea, the Professional Women's Hockey League and — through TWG Motorsports — ownership of several auto racing teams including Cadillac Formula 1. Beyond business, Walter and his wife, Kimbra, have founded or contributed to various philanthropic organizations, including the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, the Academy Group, Chicago Beyond and OneGoal.
