Ranking the 2025 Browns rookies on their potential impact
The Cleveland Browns draft class is expected to play substantial roles in the 2025 regular season, even both quarterbacks.
The Browns came away with seven talented playmakers who, of course, come with high expectations from fans. The majority of the Browns' draft class is projected to start or have a significant role in the game plan on regular season Sundays. For each player, the opportunity to showcase their potential will more than likely arise at some point during their rookie season.
Now, let's rank the Browns' rookies based on who could make the biggest impact in their first NFL season:
1. Quinshon Judkins
The Browns' early second-round selection is expected to be the starting running back when Week 1 arrives. With fan favorite Nick Chubb not returning, the team appears to have full confidence in Judkins and fellow rookie running back, fourth-round pick Dylan Sampson.
Following the 2025 NFL Draft, it's clear the Browns intend to redevelop their rushing attack. In 2024, the team totaled just 1,608 rushing yards and averaged 4.1 yards per carry, both bottom five in the NFL. Judkins is expected to be heavily involved in the Browns' offense starting in Week 1.
2. Carson Schwesinger
Next up among those expected to make a strong impact is second-round pick, linebacker Carson Schwesinger. The former UCLA Bruin was highly regarded in the Browns' draft room and was selected with the 33rd overall pick. He left mandatory OTAs with an impressive showing that demonstrated his potential as a starting linebacker.
Schwesinger brings an impressive résumé, totaling 163 tackles, five sacks, and a nomination for the Butkus Award. With the departure of defensive star Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, the rookie is expected to be the Day 1 starter at weakside linebacker.
3. Mason Graham
There hasn't been much hype around rookie defensive tackle Mason Graham, but expectations for him are very high. The Browns' decision to boost the defensive line with the fifth overall pick brings immediate pressure from both the franchise and the fanbase. Barring injury, Graham will start at right defensive tackle in Week 1.
The defensive line — and Graham specifically — also face heightened expectations due to the recent extension of All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett. While Graham may not become the NFL sack leader, he's expected to be a productive run defender early in his career. With two major offseason moves on the defensive front, major improvements are anticipated.
4. Shedeur Sanders / Dillon Gabriel
You could make a strong argument that both of the Browns' rookie quarterbacks deserve the top spot. Despite their draft positions, all eyes are on Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders to make a positive impact in 2025. Many fans are hopeful that at least one of these rookies will emerge as a capable starter during the regular season.
If either of them becomes a viable starter for the Browns, the impact could be enormous. However, they rank lower here due to the competition they face from veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. Both rookies have a battle ahead before earning regular-season snaps with the starting offense. Until then, their primary goal is to win the starting quarterback job.
5. Harold Fannin Jr.
One of the better performances from OTAs that has flown under the radar came from third-round pick, tight end Harold Fannin Jr. The former Bowling Green Falcon was one of the most versatile playmakers in college football last season, leading the nation with 1,555 receiving yards. He also brings much-needed depth and versatility to the Browns' tight end room.
It's hard to judge players solely from OTAs, but support for Fannin Jr. only grew throughout camp. The rookie tight end appeared in great shape and showed reliable hands with minimal drops in various videos on Twitter/X. With head coach Kevin Stefanski known for utilizing two-tight end sets, excitement around Fannin Jr.'s potential continues to build.
6. Dylan Sampson
After surprisingly slipping to the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Browns doubled down on revamping the running back room. Dylan Sampson is an explosive back who has looked healthy, quick, and hardworking at the start of his NFL career. He's coming off an impressive college season, tallying 1,491 yards and 22 touchdowns for the College Football Playoff-bound Tennessee Volunteers.
While Sampson will have to earn his touches, he is expected to have a significant role in the Browns' run game. The team clearly values fellow rookie Quinshon Judkins, but a two-headed rushing attack — something the Browns ran successfully in 2020 — could be in play again.

Tennessee Reacts To Exciting Peyton Manning News

Tennessee Reacts To Exciting Peyton Manning News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There's no doubt that throughout his 18-year career in the NFL (1998-2015), former quarterback Peyton Manning established himself as one of the best players in league history. Advertisement Of course, since retiring, he's already earned several different honors, including being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and having his jersey retired by the Indianapolis Colts, but on Wednesday, he earned another. ESPN announced he was one of three quarterbacks selected, along with Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, for their "NFL All Quarter Century team," which picked 53 of the best players in the league based on production since 2000. That caught the attention of the Tennessee Volunteers, where he spent his collegiate years, who took to social media with their post to congratulate the legendary quarterback. There's no doubt that Manning is worthy of this achievement, because from 2000-2015, he completed 5,468-of-8,272 passes for 64,066 yards, 487 touchdowns, 208 interceptions and a 98.6 passer rating. Advertisement In that time, he was also named to 13 Pro Bowls, earned First-Team All-Pro honors seven times, won five MVP Awards (most in NFL history), Offensive Player of the Year twice and two Super Bowls (one with the Denver Broncos and one with the Colts) Though maybe none of this success would have been possible if not for the four years with Tennessee, where he finished within the top 10 of Heisman Trophy voting three times and earned All-America honors in his senior season. Jacksonville Jaguars star Travis Hunter is all business as he continues young NFL career

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Travis Hunter continues to take the field by storm as one of the most talked-about players on the roster. After several Organized Team Activities and a practice during mandatory minicamp, Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile is impressed, and has been more impressed by the support Hunter has around him with the assistant coaches. Advertisement "He just has a wealth of talent, and he's a super intelligent guy, which makes it really fun. He's really quick on the uptake. So, he's a fun guy to coach, to be around. I know his position coaches love coaching him," Campanile said Wednesday, shortly after the second day of mandatory minicamp. DESERVED: Jacksonville Jaguars punter Logan Cooke eager to justify being among the highest-paid NFL punters Hunter has worked extensively in one-on-one situations with his various position coaches on both sides of the ball. During rookie minicamp, Hunter was seen spending a lot of time with wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett. That's continued on the defensive side of the ball. "It's pretty impressive to watch a guy do that. I think it's really... It's cool. It's been really fun. But I also think coaches, [secondary] coach Milus, [assistant defensive backs coach] Drew Lascari and [defensive backs coach] Anthony Perkins, those guys have done a great job just getting him up to speed and everything. He's done a great job responding to it," said Campanile. Advertisement On Tuesday, Hunter practiced with the defense and spent the first couple of periods with Milus, working on technique. To Hunter, it was work, something he's not making a big deal out of. Hunter has been even-keeled since being drafted by the team with the second-overall pick. While everyone has made a big deal out of his ability to play on both sides or his work ethic, this is something that he's done since college, some since high school. "It's been great," Hunter said about working through an offseason in the NFL on both sides of the ball. "I've been doing it my whole life, so nothing changed." Asked about the differences between the NFL and college in terms of what he needs to learn, he responded similarly. Advertisement "Really no difference. Just got to stay in the playbook and apply it to the field," said Hunter. WHAT POSITION? Travis Hunter's ex-college coach: Why Jaguars rookie should only play defense For the most part, Hunter has shone when on the field. As expected, he looks more natural at corner than at receiver, but to the naked eye without much context, he looks like he certainly belongs. 'Yeah, just kind of my point before, I think it really takes a sharp person to do that. He's just blessed with a lot of intelligence and maturity. So it is. It's impressive to watch for sure," Campanile said. Travis Hunter isn't worried about Madden ratings Hunter hasn't been shy in the past about what he thinks of himself and what he thinks his Madden rating should be as the game's first two-way player, operating at a high level as a cornerback and as a receiver. Advertisement Joking with former NFL receiver Chad Ochocinco on EA Madden Cast, Hunter made it known how highly he thinks of himself. "If I ain't an 85 or above, we're going to have to one vs. one for the [Heisman] Trophy back there. When I beat him, I get the 99," Hunter told Ochocinco last year. Mandatory Credit: Todd Van Emst/Heisman Trust via Imagn Images Hunter said Wednesday that he wouldn't bet against himself in that situation. "I believe in myself, so I know I'd be able to cover him," he said. Still, he's not worried about his Madden rating at this time. He said he has more important things to care about. Specifically, his job. "That's a Madden rating. That's it," Hunter said when asked about the rating. Advertisement "I'm not worried about a Madden rating right now. I'm worried about playing football," Hunter added with a straight face. No matter where Hunter ranks in Madden, his play on the gridiron will be what drives him and what will dictate how good a player he is. That'll begin in September. Travis Hunter keeps personal life to himself, denies buying a house recently Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Travis Hunter (12) hauls in a pass during a drill during the Jacksonville Jaguars’ mandatory minicamp Tuesday June 10, 2025 at the Miller Electric Center in Jacksonville, Fla. [Doug Engle/Florida Times-Union] In recent days, Hunter has been in the news for something beyond football. Hunter's reported latest purchase — a house — has had its specs and general location published by numerous outlets, rejecting the typical courtesy given to athletes, even in the open-record state of Florida. Advertisement Hunter did not react to the report, but did deny buying a house when asked about the situation on Wednesday. He appeared aggravated by the questions. "I didn't buy a house yet," Hunter said. When asked about the report that he looked at 16 houses in one day, he said, "No, that's not true." Hunter's demeanor and general mode of operation when speaking with the media thus far have been all business. While he's serious on the field, he also likes to have fun. He's enjoying being a Jaguar. "Just being able to come out here and play with my brothers," said Hunter. Demetrius Harvey is the Jacksonville Jaguars reporter for the Florida Times-Union. Jaguars Dealt Concerning Trevor Lawrence Revelation Liam Coen Can't Fix

Jaguars Dealt Concerning Trevor Lawrence Revelation Liam Coen Can't Fix originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Forget for the moment about Trevor Lawrence's footwork. The real issue for the Jacksonville Jaguars $275-million quarterback has been the stability of the foundation on which his feet are scrambling. Advertisement Lawrence, the NFL's No. 1 overall draft pick in 2021, is beginning the 2025 season with his third head coach in five years. That man is Liam Coen, the quarterback whisperer and offensive wizard who turned the 2024 Tampa Bay Buccaneers into a balanced, touchdown-producing machine. Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence at EverBank Perrine/Florida Times-Union Coen's first priority, as Brent Martineau of The Brent and Austen Show podcast noted Monday morning, is to fix whatever's wrong with Jacksonville's quarterback. But ... is it really the footwork? Martineau was skeptical. 'Are you really going to fix something that you've been doing since you were six years old?' said Martineau. 'I don't know how simple this is, in terms of fixing, but if he's thinking about (footwork), he's not gonna play fast. That concerns me.' Advertisement Martineau noted that Jaguars fans don't want more excuses in 2025. They want touchdowns and actual wins on the field, despite the many obstacles Lawrence has had to overcome in his early career. 'Patrick Mahomes (the Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback) hasn't had to deal with any of the stuff that (Lawrence) has had to deal with in that way,' Martineau said. 'None of it. From the negativity, to the Urban Meyer, to the different offenses, he hasn't had to deal with any of it.' Lawrence began his NFL career under Meyer, who the Jaguars fired late the 2021 season after a 2-11 start. Martineau noted that Lawrence started out better under his second head coach, but … 'By the time he got used to the (Doug Pederson) offense, it looked like it had gone stale,' Martineau said. Advertisement Martineau's podcast partner Austen Lane said that top draft pick Travis Hunter, and the new head coach, will get some slack as it will be their first year in Jacksonville. Right or wrong, Lawrence will be expected to produce. 'For Trevor Lawrence, I understand it's another new offense and another new head coach, but … he has to play well right away, in my opinion,' said Lane. Lane said that Lawrence has got to be better than his 2025 ESPN fantasy draft projection: 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. 'Those numbers are not good,' Lane said. 'That can't be the case. I don't care what the other stats say.' Advertisement Jacksonville won't have the toughest schedule in the NFL this year, but it's far from the weakest. If the Jaguars are still in contention for a playoff spot after, say, 11 games, their schedule becomes more favorable. The Jaguars play the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans twice each, as well as the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals, in their final seven games. So a strong start is crucial. 'Trevor Lawrence is the guy that has to be good right away,' said Lane. 'You can't have, in my opinion, any slow start, any of that, whoever it's on. For Lawrence, it's time to go.'
