That was the broad takeaway of the grand panel, 'The Future of AI – Platforms, Innovation, & Investments' on day three of TiEcon 2025.TiEcon 2025, the world's largest tech conference, and the biggest in its 32-year history, took place this May in the heart of Silicon Valley. The conference brought together 3,000-plus entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders from around the globe. With over 180 speakers and this year's theme, 'AiVerse', the conference showcased the transformative power of innovation. Under the leadership of TiE Silicon Valley President Anita Manwani, TiEcon continues to drive a culture of transformational change, fostering new ideas, connections, and opportunities for the next wave of global entrepreneurs.The panelists for 'The Future of AI – Platforms, Innovation, & Investments' were:Some highlights from the discussion:Apart from exoskeletons that can detect intent and locomotion and support wearers without manual input, AI use cases in healthcare extend to brain-computer interfaces, especially for conditions like Alzheimer's disease. In hospitals, embodied AI can function autonomously through a combination of sensors, robotics, computer vision, and machine learning. And in the realm of biotechnology, initiatives such as AlphaFold are predicting protein structures with atomic-level precision, revolutionising medical and biological research.'Our journey started about 15 years ago with sensor processing. Building on that stack, we now have a world-class, medical-grade, real-time sensor processing platform called HoloScan. It's the first of its kind: the foundation of what we're seeing in intuitive, robotics-assisted surgery,' Prerna Dogra said. 'We also founded an open-source project called MONAI or the Medical Open Network for AI. It's crossed five million downloads and is a benchmark in medical R&D. There's an explosion of startups and AI agents shaping how care is delivered. In Silicon Valley alone, you have 17, 18, 19 such verticals.'NVIDIA's Developer Relations division is bridging the gap between developers and cutting-edge tech by giving stakeholders — including startup founders — the partnership and support required to build applications accelerated by Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Its Senior Director Susan Marshall, a former founder herself, now works with startups across financial services, robotics, and healthcare for their full AI stacks. Through prepackaged 'containers' called NVIDIA Inference Microservices or NIMS, the company offers workstations, data centres, and neo-clouds that effectively streamline the running of AI models.'We now have 22,000 startups in our programme, and it's growing. It could even be two guys in a garage that have a great idea, and we'll go out and help,' Marshall said. 'NVIDIA is a very founder-friendly company. We are check size-agnostic and stage agnostic. Between the two investing arms of NVIDIA, CorpDev and Nventures, we pretty much cover a wide gamut of startups.'NVIDIA is currently helping solve domain-specific problems in 20-plus industries, ranging from drug discovery and retail checkouts to algorithmic trading and digital twins in factories.NVIDIA is a major investor in 'neo-clouds' or AI-focussed cloud providers. And because GPUs are energy-intensive, the company has taken a proactive approach to partnering with startups that work to reduce energy bottlenecks via sustainable energy solutions such as wind, solar, geothermal, and carbon capturing.The company's Jetson edge AI platform is also being deployed in smart meters in the US. Capabilities include processing troves of local energy data, predicting grid conditions, helping utility providers optimise load management, and helping consumers reduce their bills through real-time energy management.

Think tank Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) said that a wider regional escalation could threaten India's much larger trade with the broader West Asian region, including Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, where Indian exports total USD 8.6 billion and imports stand at USD 33.1 billion. "Any disruption to shipping lanes, port access, or financial systems in this corridor would severely impact India's trade flows, inflate freight and insurance costs, and introduce fresh supply chain risks for Indian businesses," GTRI Founder Ajay Srivastava said. India's exports to Iran stood at USD 1.24 billion in FY2025, with key items including Basmati rice (USD 753.2 million), banana (USD 53.2 million), soya meal (USD 70.6 million), Bengal gram (USD 27.9 million), and tea (USD 25.5 million). Imports stood at USD 441.8 billion last fiscal. With Israel, India's exports stood at USD 2.1 billion and USD 1.6 billion in imports in 2024-25. He said that the ongoing US-Israel strikes on Iran and the threat of wider conflict could significantly disrupt this trade. Payment channels already strained by US sanctions may face further blockages, while heightened shipping risks in the Gulf could drive up insurance costs and delay shipments. "Perishable exports like rice, bananas, and tea are especially vulnerable. A prolonged conflict could dampen Iranian demand and squeeze Indian exporters, particularly in the agricultural sector," Srivastava said. GTRI said that a key concern is the potential disruption to the Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 60-65 per cent of India's crude imports transit. "Any blockade or military escalation in this vital maritime corridor would severely impact India's energy security, drive up oil prices, and trigger inflationary pressures at home," it added. India enjoys deep historical, cultural, and economic ties with Iran, once a major crude oil supplier and views Iran's Chabahar Port as a strategic gateway to Afghanistan and Central Asia, providing crucial connectivity while bypassing Pakistan. Yet India also maintains robust relations with the US, Israel, and Gulf Arab states, each now directly or indirectly involved in the unfolding confrontation, Srivastava said. India's crude oil and half of its LNG imports pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has threatened to close. This narrow waterway, only 21 miles wide at its narrowest point, handles nearly a fifth of global oil trade and is indispensable to India, which depends on imports for over 80 per cent of its energy needs. The Strait of Hormuz, which lies between Iran to the north and Oman and the United Arab Emirates to the south, serves as the main route for oil exports from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, and the UAE. Many liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments, especially from Qatar, also pass through the strait. According to the Delhi-based economic think tank, any closure or military disruption in the Strait of Hormuz would sharply increase oil prices, shipping costs, and insurance premiums, triggering inflation, pressuring the rupee, and complicating India's fiscal management. The present conflict that began with an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, has brought cargo movement through Red Sea routes to a halt due to attacks by Houthi rebels on commercial shipping. Last year, the situation around the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, a crucial shipping route connecting the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea to the Indian Ocean, escalated due to attacks by Yemen-based Houthi militants. Around 80 per cent of India's merchandise trade with Europe passes through the Red Sea, and substantial trade with the US also takes this route. Both these geographies account for 34 per cent of the country's total exports. The Red Sea Strait is vital for 30 per cent of global container traffic and 12 per cent of world trade. Based on the tariff war impact, the World Trade Organisation ( WTO ) has already said that global trade will contract 0.2 per cent in 2025 as against the earlier projection of 2.7 per cent expansion. India's overall exports had grown 6 per cent on year to USD 825 billion in 2024-25. This year it is expected to cross USD 900 billion. Snapping the two-month rising trend, India's exports declined by 2.17 per cent year-on-year to USD 38.73 billion in May due to a fall in petroleum goods' shipments.

Masayoshi Son is making a $1.3-trillion bet under Project Crystal Land alongside TSMC for building robots and AI hubs. Tesla is all set, finally, to unveil its Robotaxi in Austin, Texas. Nvidia and Foxconn are in talks to deploy humanoid robots at the Houston AI server plant. Amazon deploys AI-enabled robot Vulcan at its warehouses and plans to deploy delivery robots as part of a plan to automate $200 billion in logistics costs. A Chinese outfit has unveiled the first robotic hand combining tactile perception with complete motion capabilities. Hexagon launched Aeon, a humanoid designed for industry for autonomy, automated measurement systems and perception—and what's more, it can produce digital twins. Indian entities, too, are chasing productivity to expand the use of robotics for an array of businesses. Reliance-backed Addverb is launching humanoid robots to eliminate '3D jobs', ones that are dull, dirty and dangerous. Bengaluru-based Invento is developing Mitra robots for retail, hospitality and senior care. Kochi-based Asimov Robotics develops robots for high-risk settings. Hyderabad-based Svaya Robotics specialises in industrial robots for collaborative tasks in manufacturing and logistics. Bengaluru start-up Genobotics is the developer of Bandicoot robot which automates sewer cleaning. Kody from Ahmedabad is developing robots for surveillance, office services and industry. The term robot owes its etymology to the Czech word robota, which means forced labour, and was introduced in Czech author Karel Capek's 1921 science fiction play Rossum's Universal Robots. Robots made their cinematic debut in 1927 in Metropolis, a movie about a polarised society in a divided futuristic city. Popular passions, though, surfaced with the 2007 blockbuster Transformers about alien robots produced by toymakers Hasbro and Takara Tomy and Schwarzenegger starrer Terminator. A century after Capek's coinage, a combination of factors has spurred the creeping robot evolution to a tipping point. The blend of knowledge and technology has propelled investments.
