Maneater tiger 'Bajirao' rescued from MP forest

Bajirao, a five-year-old male tiger who gained notoriety for attacking villagers, was rescued from forests of Seoni district by Madhya Pradesh forest department staff and transferred to a secure facility Saturday, reports P Naveen.
The tiger allegedly attacked and killed a tribal man, Sumit Pandare, 18, a resident of Bawanthadi village on Friday while he ventured into the forest for cattle grazing. The incident sparked protests by villagers who blocked NH-44 for several hours. A camera trap installed near the site confirmed Bajirao's presence.
Forest officials confirmed this was the second incident involving Bajirao. Last Nov, another youth from Bawanthadi village was killed in a similar attack. Over the past month, forest staff reported several encounters in which the tiger charged at both villagers and patrolling personnel.

Forest beat officer among two arrested in lizard hunting case

8 booked for killing liquor trader in Jind
A day after a 27-year-old liquor trader was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside a vend in Kharak Ramji village of Jind, superintendent of police (SP) Kuldeep Singh on Saturday confirmed that the murder stemmed from an old rivalry and that eight people had been booked. (HT Photo) Speaking to Hindustan Times over the phone, SP Kuldeep Singh said the victim, Virender alias Binder, did not own the vend but was involved as a silent partner. 'Virender had a criminal background and was facing eight to ten cases. He was killed by members of a rival gang who are not involved in the liquor trade. This murder is not linked to any liquor-related dispute but to a long-standing personal enmity. He and his aides had earlier assaulted the father of one of the accused,' the SP said. Singh added that a murder case has been registered against eight people associated with the rival gang. 'We have formed five teams to nab them. Their names can't be disclosed yet as it may hamper the investigation,' he said. Police officials said Virender's brother is already in jail in connection with a murder case. A senior officer said the deceased was a silent partner in vends across four to five nearby villages and had a known criminal record. 'The attackers have been identified and arrests will be made soon,' the official said. After the post-mortem at Jind Civil Hospital, Virender's body was handed over to his family. Police said the attack took place on Friday evening while Virender was sitting outside the vend on the outskirts of the village. 'The assailants fired at him. He tried to escape into a nearby house but was chased and shot multiple times. He was rushed to Jind Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The attackers fled after snatching two bikes from locals,' said a police spokesperson. This incident comes a week after a liquor contractor was gunned down in broad daylight near Meena Market on the busy Delhi–Ambala national highway in Shahbad, Kurukshetra on June 13. The Special Task Force (STF) of Ambala and Karnal police have arrested three men in the case.

Extortion case: BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy arrested at Hyderabad airport, granted bail within hours
HANUMAKONDA: In a dramatic late-night swoop, Warangal police arrested BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on Friday and whisked him away to Hanumakonda for questioning in an extortion case . However, in a surprising turn, a Kazipet court rejected the police remand plea and granted him bail on a Rs 20,000 personal bond within hours, bringing an end to the 18-hour high drama. The Huzurabad legislator was booked by the Subedari police on a complaint filed by Katta Umadevi, wife of granite businessman Manoj Reddy. In her complaint, lodged on April 21, Umadevi alleged that Kaushik Reddy had been threatening her husband for over 20 days, demanding money from Manoj for running his granite business in Vangapally village in Kamalapur mandal. She alleged that Kaushik Reddy had already extorted Rs 25 lakh and, on April 18, called again demanding Rs 50 lakh. According to the complaint, he threatened to kill Manoj Reddy and his family and used abusive language. Subedari police registered a case under sections 308(2), 308(4), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The MLA had earlier moved the Telangana high court seeking to quash the FIR. However, the court dismissed his plea on June 16 and vacated the interim protection from arrest, instructing him to cooperate with the investigation. Despite this direction, police claimed that the MLA was evading questioning, which prompted his arrest upon arrival at the airport. After his arrest, Kaushik Reddy was taken to the Subedari police station and later to MGM Hospital for a mandatory medical check-up before being produced in Kazipet railway court. His arrest sparked protests from BRS workers. Former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and ex-chief whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar arrived at the police station, demanding to meet the MLA. Party workers also attempted to burn an effigy of chief minister A Revanth Reddy outside the station, prompting police to detain several of them and shift them to Madikonda police station. Police will continue their investigation into the extortion charges, sources said.
