Direct train between Jammu and Srinagar will run from September: Union Minister Vaishnaw
Jammu: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said that the direct train between Jammu and Srinagar will run in September after work on the Jammu railway station is completed.
Talking to reporters today, Ashwini Vaishnaw said that work on the Jammu railway station is going on and it is expected to be completed by September.
"With the availability of platforms 5 and 6, Vande Bharat trains will run between Jammu and Srinagar directly in September," he said.
The Union Minister visited Jammu railway station, where he inspected the ongoing development works.
His visit comes as part of the preparations for the launch of the much-awaited train service to Kashmir.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to flag off two Vande Bharat trains at Katra town on Friday.
The PM will visit Chenab & Anji bridges, two engineering marvels on the rail link between Katra & Srinagar, before inaugurating the Vande Bharat train service.
PM Modi is also scheduled to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several projects worth Rs 46,000 crore in Jammu and Kashmir during his visit.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the Chenab Bridge to oversee final preparations ahead of the inauguration of the railway bridge by the Prime Minister on Friday.
Unprecedented security has been put in place ahead of the Prime Minister's visit on Friday.
A multi-layered security detail, drawn from the Special Protection Group (SPG), army, CAPFs and J&K Police, will protect the historic visit of the PM.
There is extraordinary vigil around PM Modi's Friday visit as this is his first visit after Operation Sindoor to J& K.
The ubiquitous presence of security forces is seen in Jammu city and Reasi district, with a focus on the rail track from Katra town right up to Baramulla town in Kashmir.
All vantage points along the mountainous track have been taken over by the army and other security forces, while the rail track is dotted with CAPFs equipped with electronic equipment, drones, sniffer dogs and night vision devices.

Raipur, Jun 22 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated the temporary campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) and I-Hub Raipur in Nava Raipur on Sunday. The NFSU temporary campus and I-Hub will be developed at a cost of Rs 268 crores. He also praised the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Deputy CM Vijay Sharma for their efforts in taking the anti-Naxalite campaign to a decisive phase. Shah appealed to Naxalites to surrender and join the development journey of Chhattisgarh. He assured that graduating from NFSU under the Modi government will guarantee employment. The NFSU's permanent campus is expected to be fully developed within three years, opening up vast career opportunities for Chhattisgarh's youth in forensic science. Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurates Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Trust office in Yamunanagar
Chandigarh: Union housing, urban affairs and power minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday inaugurated the office of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust built at PWD Rest House Vyaspur in Yamunanagar. During a meeting chaired by the Union power minister with the members of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust, detailed discussion was held on initiating the construction of the Lohgarh Memorial. A monitoring committee and expert committee will monitor the construction process of the memorial, and the issue of organisation of cultural programmes related to Sikh heritage was also discussed. Former cabinet minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar was nominated as the chairman of the monitoring committee. The expert committee will be responsible for identifying key historical facts and significant events related to the monument, as well as contributing to its preservation and enhancement through in-depth research. During the meeting, Rakesh Beniwal, founder of Kisan Yuva Club, and his colleague Aman Virk handed over a cheque of Rs 11 lakh to Khattar as a donation in the name of the trust. PM Modi receives call from Iran President; calls for de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy
New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) Amid the US joining the Israeli attacks on Iran, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today received a call from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian who briefed him on the current situation. PM Modi, while expressing concern at the escalation, called for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward for restoration of regional peace and security. In a post on X, the PM said: 'Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. 'We discussed in detail about the current situation. 'Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability.' A readout of the call, said that PM Modi 'received a telephone call from the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian today'. "President Pezeshkian briefed PM in detail and shared his perspective on the current situation in the region, especially the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. "PM expressed India's deep concern at the recent escalations. PM conveyed that India was on the side of peace and humanity. In this context, PM emphasised the need for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward. He reiterated India's support for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability. 'Prime Minister thanked President Pezeshkian for the continued support being extended for safe return and repatriation of the Indian community.
