, one of India's premier greenfield smart industrial cities under the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), has received environmental clearance from the ministry of environment, forest and climate change for a 1,670-acre development area.

Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) confirmed the milestone. "Spearheaded by Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Limited (BIMCGL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed by the central and state govts, this statutory approval marks a major milestone in transforming Bihar into a hub of industrial growth. The initiative merges economic opportunity with environmental responsibility, aiming to build a dynamic centre of innovation and inclusive development. IMC Gaya will reshape Bihar's industrial sector with Bodh Gaya evolving into the state's first integrated industrial township," the official said.
Connected to the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), the project is designed to enhance regional industrial capacity and develop world-class infrastructure. The IMC will cover over 1,000 acres of planned industrial plots, featuring zoned development, multimodal transport access, utilities, and logistics facilities. The initiative is being implemented by BIMCGL, a joint venture between the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) and BIADA, with full support from central and state agencies.
A recent collaborative site inspection was carried out to assess the proposed water storage facilities and pipeline layout, ensuring sustainable water infrastructure for the township. This review followed an earlier evaluation of road connectivity, reinforcing the project's commitment to creating an efficient, fully integrated industrial ecosystem.

1 2 Kolkata: The festive fervour of Durga Puja may still be a little over three months away, but the idol makers' enclave in Kumartuli is already abuzz with activity. The artisans are racing against time, giving finishing touches to several idols — not for local pujas, but to meet the international demand. Several batches of idols have already been shipped to United States (US), the United Kingdom (UK), Canada, and Australia, among other countries where the Bengali diaspora organises Durga Puja celebrations. According to the Kumartuli Mritshilpi Sanskritik Samity, more than 200 idols have already been sent abroad this season, and dozens more are at various stages of completion. The first idol was dispatched as early as Jan this year, to Sydney. "This year, I have already dispatched five large idols to various cities in the US and the UK," said Bikash Pal, an idol maker. "It takes time to pack the idols securely and get the necessary customs clearances. The shipping itself can take weeks, so we begin much earlier," he added. Some idols are sent by air, too. Potters admit that the number of orders has increased over the past decade. "Earlier, we would only get a handful of overseas orders. Now, the international orders come months in advance," said Koushik Ghosh, who dispatched an idol to Sydney in Jan. The increasing number of orders has not only changed the production timeline but also the economic dynamics of Kumartuli. Artisans say that overseas clients are often willing to pay more as the idols have to be customised. The increased income has led to more stable employment for workers and assistants, who previously relied only on seasonal work. However, the international orders also come with specific challenges. "We have to follow strict guidelines for height, weight, and materials due to shipping constraints," explained Bikash Pal, adding that some idols need to be assembled on-site. Preparations for local pandals have also begun. Full-scale activity for Kolkata-based pujas is expected to pick up by first week of July.

Panbazar road overbridge to be ready by July: NFR
Guwahati: Construction of the Panbazar road overbridge (ROB), which began last year, is expected to be completed by July, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials said. The bridge is likely to ease traffic congestion in the Paltan Bazar and Panbazar areas, two of the city's oldest cosmopolitan areas. But most of the work has been completed, including laying the foundational structures, significant fabrications, and placing the bow string girders. Advanced sub-soil strengthening through geo-cell technology has also been completed. The project is expected to be complete by July this year," said Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, chief public relations officer, NFR. The construction work of the ROB has not been progressing on a smooth note. The CPRO said the presence of the fire brigade station posed a challenge in the stacking of construction materials, limiting workspace efficiency. Approximately Rs 48 crore in cost, the project was undertaken by a Kolkata-based construction company to facilitate the smooth movement of the electric locomotives as part of the NFR's ongoing electrification process, where high-voltage lines have been installed. However, the old ROB, which was built in 1965, had turned into a 'dead wire zone'. The area under the bridge was a neutral point, and since it was not charged, it restricted the speed permanently to 15 km/h. As a result, locomotives approaching Guwahati railway station failed to maintain the required momentum, causing them to halt in that area. With a span of 60 meters, it will provide improved vertical and horizontal clearance. It will also feature a three-lane wide road replacing its two-lane limitations, which will increase its capacity to handle higher volumes of road traffic as well, thus ensuring a smoother transportation system for commuters.

Two Arrested In Rs 183 Crore Fake Bank Guarantee Scam
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated three distinct cases on May 9, in accordance with directives issued by the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, the agency said in a release on Thursday. According to the release, these cases involve a significant financial fraud involving an Indore-based company that submitted forged bank guarantees totalling Rs. 183.21 crores to the Madhya Pradesh Jol Nigam Limited (MPJNL). In 2023, the company secured three immigration projects in Madhya Pradesh worth a staggering Rs. 974 crores from MPJNL. To support these contracts, eight fake bank guarantees valued at Rs. 183.21 crores were submitted. During initial verification, MPJNL received fraudulent email responses impersonating the official domain of Punjab National Bank (PNB), falsely confirming the authenticity of the bank guarantees. Relying on these confirmations, MPJNL awarded the firm three contracts valued at over Rs. 974 crores in this matter. The CBI launched a large-scale operation on June 19 and June 20, conducting searches at 23 locations across five states: New Delhi, West Bengal, Gujarat, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh. This operation led to the arrest of two individuals from Kolkata, including a senior manager from Punjab National Bank, the CBI said. Both individuals were produced today before the local jurisdictional court in Kolkata and will be brought to Indore on transit remand, it said. The investigation so far has revealed that a Kolkata-based syndicate has been systematically fabricating and circulating fake bank guarantees to secure government contracts across multiple states. Further investigation is still on, it added.
