FAM grateful for TMJ's contributions, support for national team

THE Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) expresses its gratitude to the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, for his efforts and initiatives in revolutionising the national team.
FAM President Datuk Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub said Tunku Ismail's touch has begun to show a positive impact after Malaysia's 4-0 victory over Vietnam in the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil last Tuesday.
'On behalf of the FAM Executive Committee, I would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to Tunku Mahkota Ismail for his initiatives and commitment in revolutionizing the Harimau Malaya squad.
'Our profound thanks to Tunku Mahkota Ismail, who is always attentive and provides support and assistance to FAM in efforts to further improve the performance of the Harimau Malaya squad. This success is a positive start for Harimau Malaya and Malaysian football as a whole,' he said in a statement issued by FAM today.
Earlier, he chaired the Third FAM Executive Committee Meeting for the 2025-2029 term, held at Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya.
Meanwhile, Mohd Joehari also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the government for their assistance, especially in financial aspect, in empowering the national team.
'This allocation from the Malaysian Government will certainly further boost the motivation of the national team players to achieve more success in the future.
'Once again, on behalf of the FAM Executive Committee, I would like to thank the Honourable Prime Minister for his full support for the Harimau Malaya squad,' he said.

Sri Pahang's absence a big loss

KUALA LUMPUR: Sri Pahang FC's decision to skip the 2025/2026 Malaysia League (M-League) season is a big loss to Malaysian football, said former Pahang coach Datuk Zainal Abidin Hassan. Zainal, who was also a legend of The Elephants squad, admitted to being affected by the development, as the team not only have a long history in Malaysian football — including winning the Super League, Malaysia Cup and FA Cup — but have also produced many national players. 'This is a sad decision ... however, we must respect it (the decision not to compete). But it's a great loss. 'A huge loss for the country's football, the league and Pahang. I hope the situation will recover and Pahang will return,' he said after attending the WRA Academy Football Clinic at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council Stadium here today. However, the Football Association of Malaysia executive committee member believes that talent development in Pahang will not be affected by this. 'In my view, what's missing is the senior team, but the youth teams are still active. That's a positive move. 'I hope these young players won't give up and will work hard to restore Pahang's image until the team returns to the top league,' said Zainal, who won the Malaysia Cup with Pahang in 1983 and 1992 as a player. Yesterday, the Malaysian Football League announced in a statement that Sri Pahang, despite having obtained the 2025–2026 National Licence, had submitted a confirmation letter dated June 16, 2025, stating its decision to withdraw from the M-League. Sri Pahang finished eighth in last season's Super League with 29 points. The last title won by Sri Pahang was the 2018 FA Cup.

Shuttler Yew Sin marries Japanese star Ohori

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian shuttler Ong Yew Sin's courtship with Japanese badminton player Aya Ohori has turned into nuptial bliss. The lovebirds got married at the National Registration Department (NRD) in Melaka two days ago. Yew Sin and Ohori signed their marriage registration before NRD officer Nur Fatehah Razali, witnessed by representatives from both families. Melaka NRD said in a statement it is honoured to being part of the couple's marriage, and extended its well wishes to their union, which brings together two cultures, Yew Sin, 30, won a men's doubles bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships with Teo Ee Yi, and is currently ranked No. 31 in the world. Ohori, 28, won the Thailand Masters and the 2024 Australian Open before announcing her retirement earlier this year. "Different countries, different cultures, different lifestyles. We've learned to adapt, accept each other's ways of life, and understand one another's cultures over the years," Yew Sin wrote in a post in March. Yew Sin and Ohori have joined a distinguished list of badminton power couples. Malaysia boasts some of the most well-known pairs, including Datuk Lee Chong Wei and Wong Mew Choo, and Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai. Other notable couples include China's Lin Dan and Xie Xingfang, and Chen Long and Wang Shixian, India's Parupalli Kashyap and Saina Nehwal, Indonesia's Alan Budi Kusuma and Susi Susanti, and England's Chris and Gabrielle Adcock.
