According to senior inspector Seema Dhakane of Chandannagar police, the temple unfortunately lacks CCTV surveillance and security guards. "However, investigators have obtained a footage showing two men on a motorcycle behaving suspiciously near the temple. Two police teams are currently following up on leads to identify the suspects. We hope to solve the case at the earliest," she said.

Man gets ₹26 lakh for unpaid salary without working for even a day; company loses case in court

An Abu Dhabi court has ordered a company to pay a man Dh110,400 ( ₹ 26 lakh) for unpaid wages. The man was hired but never allowed to start work. He filed a case asking for salary from 11 November 2024 to 7 April 2025. His contract promised a basic salary of Dh7,200 ( ₹ 1.70 lakh) and a total monthly pay of Dh24,000 ( ₹ 5.65 lakh). But, the company kept delaying his joining date without paying him, according to the Khaleej Times. The company's lawyer asked the court to move the case to another department. However, the court found that the delay was the employer's fault, based on salary records and contract documents. The UAE court ruled in favour of the employee, saying wages must be paid on time as per the Labour Law. The law clearly states that a worker's salary is their right and cannot be held back unless the worker has officially agreed to it or the company has legal proof, according to the publication. In this case, the employer claimed the worker didn't report to duty and took leave. However, the court found no proper investigation to support this claim. The employee admitted to taking eight days off, which were deducted. The court ordered a salary payment for four months and 18 days. In an earlier story, a Spanish government worker, Joaquín Garcia, reportedly skipped work for at least six years, maybe even 14 years, while still receiving his salary. The truth came out in 2010, when he was about to get an award for long and faithful service to the city of Cadiz. The 69-year-old engineer had worked for the local government since 1990. In 1996, he was sent to the city's water department to oversee a sewage treatment plant. But, according to reports, he had not shown up to work for years. 'He was still on the payroll. I thought, where is this man? Has he retired? Has he died?' the deputy mayor, Jorge Blas Fernandez, later told El Mundo.

Two pretend to help accident victim, steal gold worth 75K

1 2 3 Pune: It was a double whammy for a 32-year-old Kondhwa-based shop owner on Thursday night. First, he was involved in an accident at Tilekarnagar around 10pm. Two men pretended to be "Good Samaritans," offered him help, and stole his gold chain worth Rs75,000 and his two-wheeler's key. The victim then approached the Kondhwa police and lodged a complaint against the unknown duo. An officer from the Kondhwa police told TOI that the complainant, who works with a private company, recently started a disposable supplies store in Tilekarnagar. According to the complainant, on Thursday night, he and his wife went to Yewalewadi to meet his friend, who is also the supplier for his shop. After the meeting, when he and his wife were returning home, their two-wheeler skidded due to a pothole on the road. He said that the complainant and his wife fell off the motorcycle. Due to the sudden jerk, the complainant fainted for a while. His wife sustained minor bruises on her hands. Two men approached them and helped the complainant to sit along the road. One of them also lifted the complainant's motorcycle and parked it properly. The officer said that when the duo started leaving the spot, the complainant thanked them for their help. While he was talking to his wife, the complainant realised that his gold chain worth Rs75,000 was missing. The victim and his wife checked the area but did not find it. They then decided to trace the duo. When he headed towards his two-wheeler, he found that its key was also missing. He said that when the complainant did not find the key, he realised that the duo might have stolen his chain and key under the pretext of help. "He approached us and lodged a complaint. Our investigations are ongoing," he said.

FIR against training centre director for duping 43 of 8 lakh

Nashik: The director of a police recruitment training centre in Nashik city is facing charges of cheating 43 students out of over Rs8 lakh. The Sarkarwada police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating, and also invoked the Prevention of Atrocities Act, as the victims are from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. According to the police, the students enrolled in the training centre in Dec last year after seeing advertisements that promised them articles worth Rs20,000 each. These items, supposedly funded by a government grant, included a tablet, a college bag, notebooks, and a set of 12 pens. However, the students allege they never received any of the promised items. The complainant stated that the suspect intentionally published misleading advertisements to attract more students, particularly from the SC and ST categories, and then misappropriated the funds meant for their benefits. The students have also alleged that the director concerned humiliated them and did not submit their attendance sheet for two months to the govt, thereby also depriving them of a scholarship of another Rs20,000. "The case is being investigated and the director of the training institute will be called for questioning," a police officer said. Senior inspector Suresh Avhad said the suspect has not been arrested yet. "During the course of investigation it is likely that more students, who have been duped by the suspect, may come forward," he said.
