Manchester City have been fined over £1m by the Premier League after repeatedly kicking-off or restarting matches late last season.Nine of City's matches last season started or restarted late, with the longest delay coming before the second half of the Manchester derby in December 2024 which resumed two minutes and 24 seconds later than billed. The Premier League said City had accepted and apologised for the breaches, external, with the fines totalling £1.08m. Man City acknowledge issues - analysis
Manchester City have worked hard to improve their record in this area and say they will continue to do so.Last season was a difficult one for the team in which they failed to win a major trophy across all competitions and Guardiola would have needed extra moments during preparations to conclude his remarks and relay messages - for this reason, the team have not been sent out on time as required by the Premier League. But the club did cause fewer delays in the 2024-25 campaign compared to 2023-24 - a 59% reduction - and will be aware of their responsibilities if they are to avoid further sanctions in the future.

Jofra Archer to make red-ball return for Sussex in clash with Durham

Jofra Archer is set for a long-awaited return to first-class cricket in Sussex's Rothesay County Championship clash at Durham. The England fast bowler's appearance in the Division One clash at the Banks Homes Riverside, starting on Sunday, will be his first red-ball outing in more than four years following a litany of injuries. He was surprisingly absent when Sussex announced a 12-strong squad to travel to Chester-le-Street on their website, raising concerns the 30-year-old had suffered another frustrating injury setback. But the England and Wales Cricket Board later clarified Archer was among Sussex's contingent for the contest. It is the latest and arguably most important staging post in a carefully managed return to action, with the aim of preparing Archer for a Test comeback in England's marquee series against India this summer. If Archer comes through unscathed at Chester-le-Street, he may be primed for the third Test at Lord's – where he has plenty of history – from July 10-14, having earned the last of his 13 caps in February 2021. Archer bowled England to victory in the 2019 World Cup final at the home of cricket, where he began his Test career weeks later in the 2023 Ashes, engaging in a gripping duel with Australia's Steve Smith. How highly he is regarded by England has been underlined by him being on a full central contract since then, despite stress reactions in his elbow and back limiting him to ODIs and T20s in recent years.

Emma Raducanu handed tough draw at Eastbourne on return from back injury

British number one Emma Raducanu has been handed a testing draw at next week's Lexus Eastbourne Open, where she is expected to make a return after managing a back problem. The 22-year-old has been troubled by the issue since competing at Strasbourg in May ahead of the French Open. Former US Open champion Raducanu took an off-court medical timeout during her quarter-final loss to Zheng Qinwen at Queen's Club last week, after which it was confirmed she would miss the Berlin Open, having been offered a wild card into the WTA 500 event. Raducanu had instead looked to prioritise rest and recovery to ensure she is fully fit for Wimbledon, which begins on June 30. At last year's LTA event on the south coast, Raducanu claimed a first victory over a top-10 player by defeating Jessica Pegula before going on to make the fourth round at Wimbledon. Seeded seventh in the draw for Eastbourne, Raducanu has been handed a first-round match against American Ann Li. Should Raducanu progress through the top half of the draw, she could then come up against two-time Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabeur in the second round. Defending Eastbourne champion Daria Kasatkina, the Australian world number 16, is also a potential opponent in the quarter-finals. Speaking about her fitness issues after playing at Queen's, Raducanu said: 'It's been lingering for the last few weeks and I have had back issues before. 'I think it's just a vulnerability of mine. I know I need to take good care of it. 'I'm not overly concerned that it's something serious, but I know it's something that's very annoying and needs proper and careful management.'
