HCSTSI-Hyderabad Police's liaison termed vital for peace
HYDERABAD: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Hyderabad, Adeel Hussain Chandio has said the guidance and recommendations of the business community not only help the police but also enable other provincial institutions to improve their functioning in an effective manner.
He remarked that 'Hyderabad is the face of Sindh and resolving the issues of the public and traders has always remained among the top priorities of the police.'
Speaking on the concerns raised by President Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry (HCSTSI) Saleem Memon, through a formal memorandum, SSP highlighted that the Safe City Project is a comprehensive and major initiative, and a detailed survey in this regard has already been completed. He added that the Madadgar-15 office is operational in Latifabad, while the Talash mobile application is also functional in Hyderabad and urged the business community to make active use of it.
Acknowledging the shortage of police personnel in Hyderabad, SSP stated that despite limited manpower, the department is making earnest efforts to curb criminal activities. He further informed that over 550 new personnel have recently been recruited, and efforts are underway to have them join by June. 'Out of these, more than 150 officers will be trained for the Rapid Response Force (RRF).'
He emphasized the importance of public awareness about the PECA law, designed to curb misuse of social media, and also urged parents to play a proactive role alongside police to help control one-wheeling incidents.
He appreciated the Chamber's proposal for more driving licence branches and assured that he would take up the matter with the IGP Sindh.
Referring to the increasing number of beggars in the city, he said that many of them are not genuinely needy and appropriate action would be initiated.
SSP Adeel Chandio welcomed the idea of introducing a Community Policing System and a Crowd Management Unit, assuring that steps would soon be taken in that direction. He reaffirmed the strong liaison between HCSTSI and the Hyderabad Police, which he said is vital for maintaining peace and improving law enforcement.
Earlier, HCSTSI President Saleem Memon, while addressing the session, appreciated SSP Chandio's strict measures against narcotics and recommended organizing open courts for public redressal. He highlighted that during the tenure of former SSP Sajid Sadozai, the police force was increased to 800, which was later raised to 1,600 by SSP Farrukh Lanjar and has now reached 2,000. However, further increase is necessary to meet growing challenges. He noted that over 550 personnel are deployed for VIP security alone.
He emphasized that five out of the 28 police stations operate out of properties owned by other departments and must be transferred under police ownership. Issues surrounding the police property at Al-Rahim Shopping Centre should also be permanently resolved. Furthermore, he demanded the establishment of driving licence branches in Latifabad and the main city, and suggested the media cell be supervised by a CSS officer.

PHC questions FIR in PECA case
The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has issued notices to the federal government and other relevant authorities, seeking a response regarding the registration of an FIR against a local lawyer under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). A two-member bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Abdul Fayyaz heard the case. During the proceedings, Justice Syed Arshad Ali questioned the legal basis of the FIR, remarking, "How can the police register a case under the PECA Act when it falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)? How can an SHO file such a case?" The petitioner, Advocate Roman Shah, appeared before the court. Justice Arshad Ali asked him why the FIR had been registered. Shah responded that he was unaware of the specific allegations and only knew that it had been filed under PECA. Justice Abdul Fayyaz noted, "The PECA Act falls within FIA's domain. How did the SHO register the FIR?" Justice Arshad Ali further added, "If the matter is within FIA's jurisdiction, then the SHO has no authority to register such a case." The petitioner informed the court that he had already secured interim bail. The Assistant Attorney General told the bench that the FIR was based on a social media post made from the petitioner's account, allegedly targeting a senior official of a security agency. Justice Arshad Ali questioned the petitioner's actions, asking, "Why do you share such content that creates problems?" In response, Advocate Roman Shah denied ownership of the account, stating, "This is not my account. Nowadays, fake accounts are created using other people's photos. I have no knowledge of this post." Following the hearing, the court issued notices to the federal government and other respondents, directing them to submit their replies.

Man arrested for blackmailing woman with inappropriate video
Listen to article The National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has taken into custody a man accused of blackmailing a woman using a compromising video and extorting over Rs700,000 in cash from her, officials said on Saturday. According to an official statement, a case was registered on the victim's complaint, who alleged that the accused, identified as Ghulam Kazim, had secretly recorded an inappropriate video of her. He allegedly used the footage to threaten and blackmail her, demanding both money and illicit favours under the threat of releasing the video on social media, she added. The woman told investigators that Kazim had already extorted Rs700,000 from her in hush money. Acting on the complaint, the NCCIA arrested the suspect during a raid on Autobahn Road in Hyderabad. The agency also seized his mobile phone, which reportedly contained incriminating data, including the video used for blackmail. The accused, a resident of Sobho Dero in district Khairpur, was taken into custody and an FIR was registered against him under Sections 21 and 24 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, as well as Sections 109 and 509 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Officials said that further investigations are under way to determine if the accused was involved in similar offences against other victims.

PHC seeks answers on Hayatabad crime surge
The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Commissioner Peshawar, and other relevant officials in response to a petition highlighting the worsening law and order situation in the upscale Hayatabad locality. The case was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Sahibzada Asadullah and Justice Dr Khurshid Iqbal. During the proceedings, petitioner Advocate Muhammad Hamdan informed the court that serious crimes, including street robberies, burglaries, extortion, theft, and armed muggings, have become a daily occurrence in Hayatabad. He noted that with a population exceeding one million, the area is served by only two police stations. The petitioner further stated that criminals often escape by crossing the boundary wall into Khyber district, complicating police efforts due to jurisdictional challenges. He also pointed out that the Safe City Project has not yet been completed, leaving the area increasingly vulnerable. Advocate Hamdan urged the court to order the establishment of additional police stations in Hayatabad and to direct authorities to take concrete steps to restore law and order. In response, the court issued notices to the Chief Secretary, IG Police, Commissioner Peshawar, and other stakeholders, demanding a detailed reply.
