Al Amerat stage comeback to beat Seeb

Observer05-05-2025

Muscat, May 5
Al Amerat Club kicked off their campaign in the preliminary round of the Oman Hockey League with a valuable 2-1 victory over Al Seeb Club in a match held on Sunday at the Oman Hockey Stadium in Al Amerat, earning their first three points of the new season.
The match began at a moderate pace with visible caution from both sides, given the importance of the encounter as the opening test of the league. As the minutes passed, Seeb gradually took control of the rhythm, with the first dangerous opportunity falling to Fahad al Lawati, whose powerful shot went just wide. His teammate Osama al Shibli followed with a run into the circle and a strike that was saved by Al Amerat's goalkeeper.
Despite midfield efforts from Sami Awad for Al Amerat, trying to break through Seeb's defence, the attacking advantage remained with Seeb. Their pressure paid off with a penalty corner awarded in the final minute of the first quarter, which Khalid al Hassani successfully converted to give his team a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period.
In the second quarter, both teams continued their efforts to extend the lead or equalise. Al Amerat's Al Khadhir al Nawfali stood out with a strong performance, while Seeb maintained their offensive attempts, led by Al Hussain al Hassani. However, the score remained unchanged by the end of the quarter.

The third quarter was relatively quiet, marked by tactical caution and a slower tempo from both teams. Seeb focused on securing their backline and launched counterattacks through Osama al Shibli. Al Amerat, on the other hand, failed to capitalise on their chances, despite efforts by Abdullah al Nawfali, who attempted shots from outside the circle. With minimal real threats, the score stayed 1-0.
The final quarter witnessed a dramatic turnaround, as Al Amerat returned with renewed energy and determination to equalise. Just two minutes in, Ayman Faraj leveled the score after a well-orchestrated attack led by Sami Awad, who delivered the ball into the circle for Ayman to strike powerfully into the net.
Al Amerat gained momentum after the equaliser, with Abdullah al Nawfali leading several attacks, one of which hit the post. In the 57th minute, the team earned a penalty corner, which Ahmed al Nawfali converted to give Al Amerat a 2-1 lead. Seeb pushed hard in the closing minutes, mounting heavy offensive pressure, but Al Amerat's defence stood firm to secure a thrilling and well-deserved victory, marking their first win in the league.

Omani Coaches attend International basketball course

MUSCAT, MAY 24 Two Omani coaches, Mohammed bin Mubarak al Awaisi from Al Amerat Club and Majid bin Omar al Balushi from Salalah Club, participated in the International Coaches Course held over two days at the Umm Al Hassam Basketball Hall in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The course was led by veteran Serbian coach Saša Obradović and coach Jelena, and featured a distinguished group of coaches from across the Gulf and Arab countries. The participation of the Omani coaches was supported by the Oman Basketball Association (OBA) through a training grant provided by the Technical Development Committee. This initiative comes as part of the association's ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of national coaching talent and to provide them with opportunities to explore the latest coaching concepts and methods at regional and international levels. The Technical Development Committee emphasised that this participation falls under its strategic plan to support and qualify Omani coaches through specialised programmes that strengthen their presence in the sports field. In a statement, coach Mohammed al Awaisi expressed his gratitude for this exceptional training opportunity, saying: 'The course was an enriching experience in every sense. We had the rare chance to engage with highly experienced coaches and explore advanced concepts in both offensive and defensive strategies. What stood out to me the most was the strong focus on the details of decision-making during the game and how to manage pressure in critical moments.' He added Such participation boosts the confidence of Omani coaches and provides them with modern tools that can be applied in developing our local teams. I thank the Oman Basketball Association for this initiative and hope this type of course continues, as it truly makes a difference in developing national competencies. The course included a number of theoretical and practical sessions. The first day focused on building a defensive system, the coach's role in leadership and decision-making from the bench, and concluded with an interactive discussion session on defensive philosophy and its real-life applications. The second day was dedicated to offensive aspects, covering how to deal with defensive switches and how to build both team and individual offense, followed by an open discussion on offensive schemes and tactical adjustments. The course provided participants, including the Omani coaches, with direct access to the expertise of Obradović, who has been named EuroCup Coach of the Year. They benefited from rich discussions and hands-on applications that deepened their technical and tactical understanding and enhanced their leadership abilities.
