Two robbers shot dead following shootout with cops in Nilai
NILAI: Two men, who were active in robberies, extortions and drug trafficking were shot dead following a car chase and a shootout with the police at a car park of a condominium here.
The suspects, aged 29 and 40, were tracked down at the condominium by a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel from Bukit Aman and Negri Sembilan at about 10pm on Thursday (May 15) in an operation codenamed "Ops Api 3"
Bukit Aman deputy CID director Deputy Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus CID personnel attempted to apprehend the suspects but they fired shots, forcing the police to return fire in self defence.
"Both men died at the scene.
"One of the suspects had a semi-auto pistol while the other had a revolver," he said.
The suspects were part of an armed robbery gang active in house break-ins as well as robbing factories and courier parcel centres in Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Perak, DCP Fadil said.
"The 29-year-old suspect had prior records for 11 criminal offences while the 40-year-old suspect had records for 76 offences," he added.
DCP Fadil said police vehicles were also damaged during the shootout but none of the police personnel were injured.
"We are not ruling out the possibility that both suspects are also members of an underworld gang based on the use of firearms.
"We also believe the condominium is one of their transit or safe houses. We have also identified other similar locations," he said.
He said the CID will continue operations to hunt down remnants of the robbery gang as well as aim to recover the stolen loot.
However, he could not elaborate further in order not to jeopardise operations to track down other suspects.

Man slashed in drunken brawl in Nilai
KUALA LUMPUR: A man was seriously injured after he was believed to have been slashed and beaten during a drunken brawl involving a group of men in Bandar Baru Nilai early this morning. Nilai district police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim said they received a report about the incident at 6.08am. "The complaint was lodged by a medical officer from Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang, Selangor, who had treated a local man in his 30s who arrived with blood on his face and body. "The victim was immediately admitted to the Red Zone of the Emergency Department for urgent treatment," he said in a statement. Investigations by the district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department found that the victim had been involved in an altercation in front of a fast-food outlet in Bandar Baru Nilai. "The victim is believed to have been attacked with a parang and a wooden stick by several unidentified individuals. "He is currently in stable condition, with injuries to his head and legs," he said. Preliminary investigations found that the fight did not involve elements of gangsterism, personal vendettas or previous conflicts. "It is believed to have been triggered by a spontaneous altercation while all parties involved were intoxicated. "This led to a misunderstanding, provocation and a physical fight," he said. He said the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons, Section 427 for mischief and causing damage, and Section 326 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a weapon.

12-year-old disabled girl rescued after car theft in Penang
BUTTERWORTH: A 12-year-old disabled girl was rescued unharmed in Butterworth after the vehicle she was left in was stolen from her father's workshop in Penaga late yesterday afternoon. Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abd Rahman said the incident occurred at about 5.30pm, when the girl's mother briefly exited the car to deliver engine oil to her husband's workshop. He said the vehicle's engine had been left running with the child inside. "Upon returning, the mother was shocked to find the car and her daughter gone. "A search was immediately launched by the family with help from a friend. "Unable to locate the vehicle, the mother used the Life360 app to track her mobile phone, which was with the girl, and traced the location to Bagan Lalang, Butterworth. "Police from the district's Criminal Investigation Department, assisted by officers from the Butterworth police station, responded swiftly and successfully apprehended a male suspect in his 60s," he said in a statement at midnight today. Anuar said, fortunately, the girl was found safe and uninjured. "She was immediately brought to Kepala Batas Hospital for a thorough medical examination," he said. Anuar said preliminary checks revealed the suspect had a record of seven criminal offences and eleven drug-related offences. The case is being investigated under Section 379A (theft of a motor vehicle) and Section 363 (kidnapping) of the Penal Code. Authorities are continuing their investigation to complete the case file. Two Singaporeans busted in Thailand for running cross-border vice ring
SINGAPORE, June 20 — Two Singaporean men believed to be key figures in a transnational vice syndicate have been arrested in Thailand following a joint operation between the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Royal Thai Police (RTP). According to Channel News Asia, a Thai national was also detained in the cross-border crackdown on June 17. Investigations into the criminal group began in 2023, after more than 70 vice workers arrested in Singapore were linked to the same network. 'Investigations against the vice workers established useful information against the vice syndicate,' SPF said in a statement. The arrests followed close cooperation between the SPF's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Technology Crime Suppression Division of Thailand's Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). Shared intelligence allowed authorities to identify the three suspects. The 38-year-old Singaporean allegedly used a 'complex network of bank accounts' to transfer prostitution proceeds from Singapore to Thailand. The second Singaporean, aged 36, is believed to have supported the syndicate's cross-border operations. The men were arrested under the Thai Criminal Code. Assets worth more than 20 million baht (RM2.4 million), including cash, two condos, and various digital devices, were seized by Thai officers. In Singapore, more than S$1.26 million in suspected criminal proceeds was frozen from the older suspect's bank accounts. Investigations are ongoing.
