25 endangered species released into Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve

RIYADH — A total of 25 endangered native species were released into the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve. The initiative was carried out by the National Center for Wildlife, in cooperation with the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve Development Authority.
This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to breed and reintroduce endangered species into their natural habitats. The released animals included five Arabian oryxes, 15 sand gazelles, two steppe eagles, and three Egyptian vultures. This action aligns with the center's mission to reintroduce native species, restore ecological balance, and enrich biodiversity within natural reserves.
The release marks a continuation of the center's nation-wide efforts to rehabilitate ecosystems and implement breeding programs for endangered species. These efforts contribute to the goals of the National Environment Strategy and support the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative, reflecting the Kingdom's vision for protecting natural resources and promoting their sustainability.
124 houbara bustards reintroduced into King Salman Royal Reserve
The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority has reintroduced 124 rare houbara bustards across the reserve. This comes as part of the authority's ongoing efforts to release numerous endangered species into natural habitats within the reserve, carefully monitoring their condition, and recording their data through a field team.
The houbara bustard nests in open ground, forming a shallow, unlined hole, often located near a short shrub. Its length ranges from 55 to 75 cm. Male houbara bustards weigh between 1,800 and 3,200 grams, while females weigh between 1,200 and 1,700 grams. Its range of movement in search of food is 60 km per day, and it feeds on grains, plants, insects, and worms.
The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve is the largest wildlife reserve in the Middle East, covering an area of 130,700 square kilometers. The reintroduction programs for endangered species confirm the authority's commitment to its ongoing efforts to enrich biodiversity and conserve species whose numbers have declined due to factors including environmental pressures and loss of vegetation cover.

KSrelief signs agreement to build four water desalination plants in Gaza Strip
Saudi Gazette report GAZA — King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) signed a cooperation agreement with the Saudi Center for Culture and Heritage via video conference to establish four water desalination plants in the Khan Yunis and Middle governorates of the Gaza Strip. The agreement was signed by the Center's Assistant Supervisor General for Operations and Programs, Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Center for Culture and Heritage, Dr. Issam Abu Khalil. Under the agreement, four desalination plants with a production capacity of 10 to 12 cubic meters per day will be supplied. The agreement includes the installation of four 7-kilowatt solar energy systems for the desalination plants, benefiting 300,500 people. This agreement comes as part of the efforts provided by Saudi Arabia, through its humanitarian arm, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, to support the water and sanitation sector and alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people due to the humanitarian crisis they are experiencing.

Nearly 6,000 new urban heritage sites registered in National Urban Heritage Register
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Saudi Heritage Commission announced on Sunday the registration of 5,969 new urban heritage sites in the National Urban Heritage Register, bringing the total number of registered sites to 34,171. This reflects the richness and diversity of architectural heritage in various regions of the Kingdom. The new registration list included several sites across various regions of the Kingdom. The Riyadh Region has 258 sites; Makkah Region: 483 sites; Qassim Region: 761 sites; Asir Region: 3,893 sites; Al-Baha Region: 499 sites; Hail Region: 60 sites; Jazan Region: 8 sites; Al-Jouf Region: 4 sites; and the Eastern Province: three sites. This registration was made in accordance with regulations related to antiquities and urban heritage, and in accordance with the decision of the Heritage Commission's Board of Directors to delegate the authority's CEO to register urban heritage sites. This is intended to enhance the protection of these sites from encroachment or neglect and ensure their preservation for future generations. The commission emphasized that this step is part of its strategic plan to expand the scope of legal protection for heritage sites and enable their rehabilitation in a way that enhances national identity and highlights their cultural and historical value as living testaments to the Kingdom's architectural heritage. The commission called on all members of society to support its efforts to monitor and register heritage sites by reporting them via the "Balagh" service, communicating with the commission through its official social media channels, or by calling the number of the Unified Security Operations Center 911. The commission emphasized that community participation is a key component in preserving and activating the national urban heritage.
