Omani-Bahraini bazaar opens at Oman Mall
Muscat – The Omani-Bahraini Bazaar commenced this evening at Oman Mall in the Wilayat of Bausher, Muscat governorate, under the patronage of H E Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion.
The event aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and Bahrain Vision 2030, aiming to enhance the role of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in economic development. The exhibition features 30 exhibitors, comprising 17 Omanis and 13 Bahrainis, showcasing a diverse range of products, including fashion, perfumes, incense, Omani frankincense, traditional sweets, accessories, handicrafts, heritage items, and household supplies.
Running until Wednesday, March 26, the exhibition seeks to strengthen the historical ties between Oman and Bahrain, support entrepreneurs, foster new investment opportunities, and promote bilateral trade.
Dr. Juma bin Ahmed al Kaabi, Ambassador of Kingdom of Bahrain to Oman, highlighted that this edition of the exhibition reflects the government's commitment to supporting entrepreneurs in expanding their businesses and increasing their production. He noted that such initiatives contribute to the national economy and reinforce the robust relations between the two nations.
Radina bint Amer bin Mohammed al Hajriya, Chairwoman of the Omani-Bahraini Friendship Association, stated that the exhibition is a result of collaboration between the Bahraini Embassy in Oman and the Association. She emphasised that organising exhibitions is a key priority for the Association, as they provide economic and commercial benefits to both countries by supporting SME owners.
Hajri further noted that the Omani-Bahraini Bazaar in Muscat marks the fourth event organised by the Association, following the success of the products exhibition held in Manama in January. She also revealed that additional exhibitions, seminars, and conferences are planned for 2025, in cooperation with the embassies of both nations.
The opening ceremony was attended by senior officials, diplomats, and members of civil society and the media. The event was jointly organised by the Omani-Bahraini Friendship Association and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Oman.

OIA announces job creation, global partnerships, and strong returns in 2024
Muscat: The Oman Investment Authority (OIA) revealed a series of achievements and performance indicators from its 2024 operations during its annual media briefing held on Sunday. As part of its efforts to support national employment and economic diversification, the Authority announced the creation of 1,393 direct job opportunities for Omani nationals across its companies and affiliated institutions. During the event, OIA said it also completed six successful divestments, redirecting the proceeds towards new investment opportunities, thereby enhancing the sustainability and dynamism of its assets. Key financial milestones The media briefing also showcased several headline financial achievements. OIA's total assets surpassed RO 20 billion, underscoring its growing scale and investment footprint. Furthermore, profits exceeded RO 1.5 billion, reflecting strong returns on investments and prudent financial management. The Authority reaffirmed its role in contributing to the national economy, with its entities channelling RO 800 million into the state budget, helping fund development projects and essential services.

Omani cookbook wins two global awards at Gourmand event
By OUR CORRESPONDENT Muscat – Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has won two international awards for its publication The Omani Cuisine at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards held in Lisbon, Portugal. The Gourmand awards are among the most prominent global events celebrating the best books in culinary arts and food culture. The ministry's participation showcased Oman's culinary heritage through its book, produced in collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University. At a ceremony attended by culinary experts and industry figures from around the world, Oman won the 'Best Book in the World' award in the Culinary Diplomacy category and 'Best Cookbook in the World' award in the Intangible Cultural Heritage category. Officials said the achievement highlights efforts to document and promote Omani cuisine as an integral part of the nation's cultural and heritage identity. Asma bint Salem al Hajri, Tourism Promotion Expert at the ministry, said the participation reflects ongoing work to enhance the reputation of Omani cuisine regionally and internationally. She noted that traditional Omani food plays a key role in cultural tourism and showcases the depth of Omani civilisation. The ministry's activities at the event included a visual presentation and a tasting session, giving attendees insight into Omani dishes, their ingredients and preparation. The event was a platform to introduce the diversity and authenticity of Omani food to new audiences and make it a part of the sultanate's tourism offering. Fatima bint Ali al Lawati, Assistant Director for Institutional Planning and member of the Food Tourism and Culinary Arts Programme at the ministry, said the double win demonstrates international appreciation for Oman's culinary arts and intangible heritage.
