The Honor Magic V5 is likely coming next month, will be under 9mm thick
The race is on – multiple makers will be competing to make the thinnest foldable smartphone this year. And Honor exec Li Kun set the challenge, saying that the 'Honor will still be the lightest and thinnest'. This refers to the Honor Magic V5 (it won't be called the V4).
How thin? Well, all that we know officially about it is that it will launch by the end of next month.
Turning to rumors, the Honor Magic V5 will allegedly measure 8.x millimeters when closed. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 will measure 8.9mm, according to Ice Universe, so it will be down to tenths of a millimeter. For reference, the Honor Magic V3 is 9.2mm.

5,950mAh battery (compared to 5,150mAh on the V3) with 66W charging, which is confirmed by TENAA details. Further details posted by Experience More promise a Snapdragon 8 Elite inside the V5 (the 8-core version). The phone will be available in Silk Road Dunhuang (should be a warm, earthy tone) and Velvet Black. BeiDou satellite messaging will allegedly be supported.
Since we haven't heard anything about a big Honor event in the next couple of weeks, the Magic V5 will likely come out next month. The Z Fold7 is expected in July, by the way.

Honor reveals Magic V5 foldable phone's thickness, and it barely beats the Galaxy Z Fold 7
Honor is skipping the Magic V4, and is instead jumping straight to the Magic V5 foldable. The company has now exclusively revealed the phone's thickness to Apple insider Mark Gurman for his newsletter Power is looking to usurp the Oppo Find N5 — which measures at 8.9 mm when folded — as the world's slimmest foldable. The company has revealed that the Magic V5 will be 8.8 mm when folded, making it the slimmest closed foldable to date. Despite this, the Honor Magic V5 will also apparently come with a 6,100 mAh battery. That, to me, makes it the obvious choice for those who value both slimness and battery life. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to ship with the same 4,400 mAh battery as the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to measure at 8.9 mm when folded, so the Honor Magic V5 will beat it by just 0.1 mm. Honor is also launching the Magic V5 next month, around the same time Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 . We may even get to finally see a budget foldable by Samsung, as it's very likely that next month will also see the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. While it can be argued that the battery capacity on the Fold 7 is laughable, I do think that Samsung has finally caught up in the foldable market. The Chinese brand Honor has just given us the first glimpse of its upcoming foldable, the Magic V5 – and it is expected to reclaim the title of the world's thinnest smartphone. In the days leading up to the launch event, set for July 2, Honor is teasing the upcoming Magic V5 – and the latest teaser gives us a good (although not complete) look at its design. And yep, it is looking incredibly thin. There's also a huge camera bump on the back, rumored to include a 200 MP periscope telephoto sensor. The new Gold color looks pretty sleek. | Image credit – Honor The teaser shows the device in a color that is likely the previously rumored premium Silk Gold, which will join last year's Magic V3 colors: Velvet Black Snow White Tundra Green The new option definitely looks sleek and gives the phone a bit of a style edge over rivals like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which – once again – is expected to show up in some pretty tame shades. Now, according to this teaser, the Magic V5 is set to become the world's thinnest foldable. That means it will beat out the current record-holder, the Oppo Find N5, which comes in at 8.9 mm folded and 4.2 mm when open.
