Others are more stand-offish and depending on their mood or the energy of the person approaching, they may not want to be stroked at that moment in time. And there are a number of signs that they show when the latter is the case.
One dog expert on TikTok, who goes by the name Five By Five Canine, has shared six signs that a pooch will display when they are not comfortable being pet.
"If you're petting a dog and you either see, feel or hear any of these six things, it's best to remove your hand as soon as possible," she said in a video that has been viewed more than 265,000 times.
