US president Donald Trump addresses the world after Iranian strikes
US president Donald Trump will shortly be addressing the world after confirming American forces have completed strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites.
Trump announced the US had executed three 'very successful attacks' on the sites at Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan.
The announcement was shortly after confirmed in a statement from the White House on Saturday local time.
Trump addressed the nation from the White House at 10pm local time, saying that strikes were carried out on three key nuclear facilities, calling the mission a 'spectacular success'.
Strikes had 'completely and totally obliterated' the Iranian nuclear facilities, Trump said.
Trump called Iran the 'bully of the Middle East,' saying they must now make peace.
'If they do not, future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier,' he said.
'For 40 years, Iran has been saying, 'Death to America, death to Israel.'
'They've been killing our people, blowing off their arms, blowing off their legs with roadside bombs.'

‘Scarce resources': AUKUS submarine sales at risk from Pentagon review
Washington | The Albanese government is being warned that a Pentagon review risks imperilling Australia's nuclear submarine ambitions if the US administration takes a hardline stance on the threat from China in the coming years. American national security experts familiar with the Trump administration, who spoke with The Australian Financial Review, viewed the most likely outcome of a 30-day review of the AUKUS pact would be a White House push for more investment from Canberra, either in its own defence hardware or for US shipbuilding facilities.

Reverberations from Trump's decision to bomb Iran
Donald Trump's address to the nation announcing the US bombing of three Iranian nuclear facilities was unusually short and succinct for a normally verbose US president. But Trump left wide open whether his declaration of the strike's 'spectacular military success' will be decisive or lead to more protracted, high-risk involvement in the Middle East for the US.

Investors fret oil price surge on Iran attack will upend long bull run
The price of oil will spike as markets open and could even soar beyond $US100 a barrel after the Trump administration's intervention into a weeks-long war between Israel and Iran unsettles financial markets. While the price of Brent crude had drifted more than 10 per cent higher since Israel first launched an attack on Iranian nuclear assets two weeks ago, traders fear US President Donald Trump's authorisation of bombing at the weekend will lead to a rapid escalation in the conflict.
