Royal family: Kate Middleton breaks tradition in latest heartfelt post for Father's Day
The Wales children have paid a touching tribute to their father, Prince William, in honour of Father's Day, affectionately referring to him as 'Papa.'
However, in a departure from tradition, the Father's Day portrait was not taken by Kate Middleton, who is known for capturing many of the family's most personal moments.
Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, gathered closely around their father as they posed together for photographs that were shared on Instagram.
One of the photos captures the royal children, dressed in coordinated dark green outfits, smiling at the camera as the Prince of Wales gently rests his hands around their shoulders.
In another, more spontaneous shot, the children were piled on top of their father in a playful hug, laughing as they played together in a garden.
'Happy Father's Day, Papa (before and after!), We love you! G, C & L,' the caption read.
Josh Shinner, a regular royal family photographer, took both images on this occasion, sparking curiosity among royal watchers about why the Princess of Wales, who has long been known for capturing many of the family's intimate moments, did not take the photos this time.
Last year, the Princess shared one of her own photographs for Father's Day, capturing Prince William with George, Charlotte, and Louis on the Norfolk coast.
It marked the first time a message from all three children appeared on the royal family's social media accounts, a heartfelt tribute to their father that resonated deeply with fans.
'Crying what a beautiful photo taken by Catherine,' one person wrote in the comment section of the post.
Another said, 'What a beautiful picture taken by our talented Princess of Wales!! And the message from the kids is adorable.'

'I've tried everything,' the singer, 37, said on Trisha Paytas' Just Trish podcast on Thursday, per Page Six. The Grammy winner explained however that she abandoned the semaglutide, which has not been approved for use for weight loss in Australia, early into her journey. 'Ozempic works because you eat less food, yeah? So if you eat right, it makes you feel full,' she said. 'But if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it's the same thing.' Ozempic is also associated with a number of side-effects including most commonly gastrointestinal disorders like nausea, diarrhoea and vomiting, in a way that doctor-approved changes to diet and exercise are not. 'When I started actually eating whole foods and eating, like, beef and chicken and fish, I was actually full and not expanding my stomach by putting a lot of fake things in there that [weren't] actually filling me up,' the songwriter continued. This means that the medicine has been evaluated by the TGA for its safety, quality and efficacy for that indication only.' Lizzo made headlines in September 2024 for hitting back at an Instagram hater questioning whether she was taking the type II diabetes drug. 'Whyyyy [sic] do u follow me?' she asked at the time. The following year, Lizzo explained that she had, instead, applied 'a calorie deficit' and cut 'sugary stuff' from her diet. Drinking a pre-flight coffee #firstclasslounge'). Why do I baulk at this? K.Y., Parkville, Vic Wonderful friends? They sound more like wankerful friends (# hawhaw # cleverwordplay # notreally # sorry). You're right to baulk at their boasty posting: it's obnoxious and validation-seeking and just makes you feel like crap because most of us have never travelled business or first class, let alone been in a first-class lounge. We've only peeked inside as we walk past, our eyes blinded by glinting, golden surfaces and veneered teeth, our noses smelling Caramelised Calf's Foot with Lobster Remoulade, our ears picking up the sound of music and frivolity and orgy-giggling. Whenever friends start bombarding me with boasty travel posts, I always poke gentle fun at them – and by poking gentle fun, I mean bludgeon them around the head with a sack of their own entitlement. If I were you, I'd reply with a series of anti-boasty, non-holiday, unentitled Insta posts: a photo of yourself on a crowded train going to work, squished up between surly, sweaty commuters, and the message, 'On my way to paradise, too! # Workingclass '.
