Dark streets in Mnandi finally see the light
A long-anticipated streetlight installation project is officially underway in Ward 48, bringing renewed hope for safety and improved infrastructure to residents of Mnandi.
According to DA councillor Themba Fosi, this marks a significant milestone in a broader plan spearheaded by the DA during its leadership of the metro.
Streetlights will first be installed along Lochner and Tulip roads, as well as Constantia Avenue, in a move that has been widely welcomed by residents.
Residents have long called for better lighting to combat crime and improve visibility at night.
This development comes after extensive engagements between Fosi and local community leader Gary Watkins, who highlighted ongoing safety concerns due to poorly lit streets.
'We heard the calls from residents and made it a priority to respond, despite the tight budgetary environment. When we were still leading the city, we initiated a phased rollout plan that would begin with arterial roads to ensure that the greatest number of people benefited,' said Fosi.
While he welcomed the progress, he expressed concern over the city's recent trajectory under the current administration.
'I feel we are regressing a bit with service delivery under the new coalition government,' Fosi said.
'All the wins we had last year have not continued. The sporadic theft of cables has prevailed, the grass has not been cut, and broken infrastructure causing outages are now taking longer to repair. But I will continue to fight for residents. I will continue to push the administration to do good, taking into account that Region 4 is a revenue spinner in the city.'

Duduzile claps back at Floyd Shivambu's 'takes drugs' comments
Duduzile Zuma-Samudla has finally responded to shady comments made by fellow MK Party MP, Floyd Shivambu. In a press briefing on Thursday, 19 June, the former secretary general accused his party nemesis of 'taking drugs'. Floyd was effectively demoted after the party condemned his visit to the wanted Malawian preacher, Shepard Bushiri, last month. On her Instagram Story, Duduzile shared a clip of herself laughing with EFF President Julius Malema. Concerns mount over ride-hailing safety after Simthande Myeza's abduction in South Africa

The kidnapping took place in the Umbilo area in Durban, raising significant concerns over the safety protocols of such services. Contacted for comment, Lerato Motsoeneng, Senior General Manager for Bolt South Africa, expressed deep concern over the incident. 'We are aware of the incident currently being shared online involving a rider, Simthande Myeza, who reportedly experienced a deeply disturbing situation while using our platform,' she said. 'We want to express our sincere concern and sympathy. We are committed to handling this matter with the utmost seriousness and will fully support the relevant authorities in addressing it.'
