The victory also offered Vithya some consolation after being pushed to second place in the women's 400 by Uttar Pradesh's Rupa on Tuesday. Kerala's Anu R finished second with a time of 58.26 seconds, while Aswini R (1.02.41) of Tamil Nadu bagged the bronze.
However, Vithya rued the lack of competition in the event. 'It was a good track and good conditions, but I didn't feel challenged. 'After a point, all my rivals were far behind, and I felt as if I was competing with myself. I could have improved the timing a bit more if there was better competition,' she said.
Vithya's effort in Kochi is the second-fastest time in Asia this year, and if she can do an encore at the Asian Championship in South Korea next month, she can expect a podium finish.
However, more than securing a medal at the Asian event, Vithya's primary target is to achieve a personal best, which would see her erasing Usha's 40-year-old record.

ENG vs IND live streaming: How to watch 1st Test Day 4 action for free?
As the 1st Test between India and England at Headingley heads into Day 4, the match remains finely balanced after three days of gripping action. Both teams have had their moments of control but neither has managed to seize complete dominance, setting up a potentially decisive "moving day." India began the Test strongly, piling up 471 runs in the first innings, thanks to brilliant centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant. However, from a commanding position at 430/3, India suffered a sudden collapse, losing their last seven wickets for just 41 runs, allowing England a route back into the contest. While Jasprit Bumrah stood out with a superb five-wicket haul, becoming the first Asian bowler to reach 150 Test wickets in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) nations, India's fielding let them down. Several dropped catches, including three by Jaiswal, gave England valuable reprieves. Harry Brook narrowly missed a century, falling on 99, while Ollie Pope added a crucial hundred. England ended their innings on 465, just six runs behind. "Reaching Ton With Six...": LSG Owner Sanjiv Goenka's Big Praise For Rishabh Pant Wins Internet
Team India had a brilliant outing with the bat in the first innings of the ongoing first Test against England in Leeds. After being asked to bat first, India scored a whopping total of 471 with three batters reaching their respective centuries. Starting from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 101, followed by skipper Shubman Gill with 147 runs, and lastly Rishabh Pant, who hammered 134 runs. Out of the these three, Pant's knock was truly a memorable one as he was at his absolute best, playing his fearless cricket. Seeing Pant's brilliant innings, his IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka took to X (formerly Twitter) and praised the wicketkeeper-batter. "Three's a charm with brilliant centuries from @ybj_19 , @ShubmanGill, and now @RishabhPant17. Rishabh reaching his ton with a six speaks volumes about the future of Indian cricket. A commanding start to the series. #INDvsENG," Goenka wrote on a post on his X account. Pant on Saturday surpassed MS Dhoni to register the most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter and continued his good show in what are regarded as tough wickets in countries outside Asia. Pant reached the milestone during India's first Test against England at Leeds. In his innings, Pant smashed 134 in 178 balls, with 12 fours and six sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of over 75. Pant now has seven centuries, overtaking Dhoni, who has six Test centuries. This is also his fifth century in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) conditions, the most by an Asian batter. Three of these centuries have come in England and one each have come in Australia and South Africa. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar hailed Rishabh Pant as the country's "greatest wicketkeeper-batter ever". "By far, India's greatest ever Test batter-keeper. I was worried when he was in the 90s that he might end up getting his 8th 90 of his career. It is just unbelievable that he has so many 90s! But he's a breath of fresh air."

Jasprit Bumrah Gifts Special Leeds Fifer Ball To Son Angad, Wins Hearts
Last Updated: Jasprit Bumrah gifted his son the special ball with which he recorded his 14th fifer in Test cricket during the first innings in Headingley. Jasprit Bumrah marked his spectacular fifer in the first innings of the Headingley Test against England by gifting his son Angad the ball with which he delivered his spell of 5 for 83. TV presenter Sanjana Ganesan, the Indian speedster's wife, revealed via an Instagram story post that Bumrah gave the ball to his little one on Sunday, June 22. The picture of the junior Bumrah holding the red ball inked with the father's first-innings figures versus the hosts touched the hearts of cricket fans. Angad Jasprit Bumrah with Father's fifer balls 😍. — Nadeem (@cricupdatesonX) June 23, 2025 After months of layoff from Test cricket due to a back stress injury, Bumrah was back to the grind in England. He kept India in the game despite an inexperienced support cast allowing England regular opportunities to score. When Mohammed Siraj (2/122) and Prasidh Krishna (3/128) were smashed off their lengths and lines by the Bazball brigade, Bumrah kept them under the wood and provided critical blows to ensure India took a slender six-run lead after posting 471 all out in the first essay. With only T20 cricket for Mumbai Indians under his belt in recent months, Bumrah took time readjusting to Test match workload and spells, erring on his line a little bit. But the great bowler soon got into his true elements and added the wickets of Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, and Josh Tongue to his bag of scalps after having dismissed opener Zak Crawley earlier in England's innings. It was Bumrah's 14th five-wicket haul in Test cricket in just 46 appearances for India. He now has a tally of 210 scalps in the traditional format at an astonishing average of 19.33. Arguably the greatest cricketer of the era, Bumrah equalled the record of the legendary Indian allrounder Kapil Dev with this being the 12th instance of him taking a fifer away from home. Notably, the 31-year-old reached the mark in only 34 foreign Tests, as opposed to Kapil's 66. Bumrah also became the first Indian to record 10 five-wicket hauls in the SENA countries. Two more will take him past Sultan of Swing Wasim Akram among Asian bowlers on the list. Bumrah now has four five-wicket hauls in Australia and three apiece in England and South Africa. He also has a pair of fifers in the West Indies and India. First Published:
